So basically I want to major in art and I'm a junior in high school and I haven't started my art portfolio.
Ive been taking some art classes like basic design and such, but I am sort of new with this whole idea of creating an art portfolio, so I just want to know if there are any art majors out there to give me some advice on creating one.
Also is there anyone who wants to apply for art as a freshman in college? =D
plus the whole idea of photography and such, I don't have a professional camera at the moment but does that mean I can't use a digital? Please give me some tips or anything helpful!!! or something that will help me to prepare for this art portfolio!
Im planning to apply to private colleges like Biola university in CA.
Thank you for spending your time to read this!

i'm not sure about photography because i'm not a photo major, but one of my friends got into MICA without ever setting a foot in a dark room. she has only used digital cameras/DSLR.
if you're not planning on applying as a photo major, you should have some other art works. like drawings, paintings, etc.
since you're a junior you should get started on your portfolio as soon as possible so you can have a lot to choose from.

i hate when there's a seemingly interesting story but i can't read through it because the writing is SO. BAD.

I'm not going to be an art major, nor do I intend to be one... but my art teacher has be ready for art school... Portfolio, research, etc.
I'm a junior too, and this is from talking to college reps(at portfolio reviews) and my art teacher
Anyways, you should definitely get started on your portfolio.. ASAP. Otherwise, senior year will be killer.
Do remember that certain colleges require a certain number of works of different medias. You should have a variety of drawings/paintings/prints/etc, just in case you don't like one thing, you have another as a back up.
If you're serious about being an art major, take art in and outside of school. (Colleges like to see that you're dedicated)
Oh, and when you've got a portfolio, DEFINITELY attend portfolio reviews.
I've been to a few portfolio reviews, and colleges definitely like to see one work that you've developed into many. (ie: take one drawing, and use the same idea/concept for 3-4 more).
Art school requires a lot -__-;;
but there was this one guy who took ONLY AP art, senior year, and made it into CCAD. How he did it... Even my teacher doesn't know, but he's one amazing artist.
If you're interested in photography, you should invest into a DSLR/SLR. A reg digital camera might not cut it. It might look like you're taking photos for the heck of it.
Hope that helps with your question. PM me if you'd like to know more.
