My parents don't think much about it.They've never commented on it either.I guess it's pretty normal to them and it's not like I'm doing something illegal. But then again,I'm not obssessed by it,so maybe that's why they don't really care either.
My parents have never commented badly about Japan. They were born after the war,so they've never experienced it either.I'm from a country where one of the worse massacres happened during the Japanese occupation.Actually,I was the one who had nasty things to say about Japan after studying about the war.My mom was learning a little bit Japanese at that time and I often chided her for doing so.It's so ironic that I am now the one learning the language, listening to the songs and watching the dramas.I'm an avid learner of the Asia-Pacific war and the one thing I probably have to say about it is that people do forgive but they'll never forget. But then again,I don't think Japan should be forgiven for their war crimes because they've never admitted to the atrocities unlike Germany.I guess I just separate entertainment and history.

I'm Viet./Chinese
What does your parents or relatives think of it?
Parents are like whatever, you're expanding your knowledge of cultures.
Relatives are retarted and think that any other culture outside of Chinese and Vietnamese (despite the fact that they can't even tell when I'm listening to Mandarin or Japanese - they think it's still Japanese) is bad for my health, and strongly discourage it.
They say I need to learn more Vietnamese, even when I know more than their own kids.
don't care?
My parents don't really care.
disapproving?
See above.
do they comment negatively about Japan?
My parents: as much as they do with every other culture. They're not picky on what they criticize, they criticize their own homeland if it comes down to it.

I'm African American
What does your parents or relatives think of it? My mother doesn't really care much. She brought me up in a multicultural background. Sometimes she thinks its weird but other times, nothing really.
do they comment negatively about Japan? No she doesn't say anything. But if she has a question about it, she'll ask me or my friends.
