Calories = Energy
You need energy to think so yes it does use up calories, but very minimal that it probably wouldn't even matter.
Here's an article about it
http://blog.nutritiondata.com/ndblog/2008/...ood-news-t.html
It says people get hungry because of fluctuations in blood sugar levels due to the need of glucose by the brain

haha. well. from my understanding (i could very possibly be wrong..im not the brightest kid) thinking uses energy. like..that's why they tell students to get a good breakfast before the SATs/CAHSEE/tests.
and they say salmon is good for the brain..i guess it provides more energy? im not sure on that.
but thinking uses energy..im not so sure the energy it uses burns anything.

Being alive burns calories - if you run out - you will die.

But between thinking and sleeping - you will burn more calories sleeping because that is when the body repairs and regenerates.

Notably you will only die after your body eats most of your muscles and your fat reserves ~ once you drop to a certain body-fat% - Past seeing jaw muscles while you chew your food!

You brain actually uses up almost a FIFTH of your energy everyday. It's because it runs on glucose like it's no tomorrow, it's a huge drain on resources, muscles on the other hand are more efficient as using little energy. Compared to other animals, we can afford a big brain becaus we eat enough. A popular theory is that we were quasi monkeys, and we got on a carnivore diet, which brought us lots of calories compared to raw fruits and roots and other such, which are so hard to digest, this allowing us to get bigger brains, and pushing us towards a bigger brain so we could actually catch the mean in question.

Now, what does this have to do with being skinny? Nothing. You think all the time anyways, so as another poster said, you can't think yourself thin.

Yes, and that's why I'm so skinny.

You burn more calories smoking cigarettes than thinking.

Eating burns calories, atleast that's what my doctor tells me.
He also said going on a plane & exercising burns calories 150% faster.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it.... but you know how when you're taking a test (i.e. SATs or something) and you hear people's stomachs growling like crazy? Mine does that even though I ate a good breakfast. My mom said it was because when you think... something to do with acids in your stomach... um something like that. Does that count as burning calories?? LOL

The brain accounts for 20% of our caloric consumption. (400 calories, based on 2000 calorie diet)
All those calories MUST come from carbs. (that means 100g of carbs a day because 1g of carb=4 calories. Of course, you need to eat more than 100g because not all of the carbs you eat goes to fuel your brain)
Somewhere in between long talks and making fun of each other, I fell for you.

Yes you do burn calories when you think its very negligible, however, this is not to say you can't be hungry or lose weight if u eat a normal diet. Most of the glucose(sugar) in your liver are sent to the brain for metabolism and energy production(ATP) for cellular process especially the neurons, which is a lot lot are in your brain. If you're in college or graduate school and are studying very hard(for examples finals right now...) then its possible to lose weight but this wouldn't happen in just a few days. Please note when i say calories, i dont mean Calorie that u see in food, because 1 Calorie = 1000 calorie nutrient wise. So yes you're losing calories, but Calories probably may be but i wouldn't lose sleep to think about how i can lose weight by thinking all day.

Yes there are food out there that are a (-) energy source, your body uses more energy to digest it many plant based things high in fiber for example. The reason is because our body lack the enzyme necessary to digest many plant fiber which are usually linked via beta 1-4 linkage. Yes i am very bored....
