OKAY like the thing is, im thinking about switching high schools after i finish my junior year at my current one..

Does it really matter to colleges which high school you come from? because the one im attending right now is a national blue ribbon school, and was on the "top 100 high schools" list a few years back. the one im thinking of switching to...its not that academically great or anything..but then i have a higher chance of being valedictorian at the school im thinking about moving to..not that i will tho tongue.gif

So should i make the switch? Why am i thinking about switching? Cuz im so tired of my school!! and i cant stand going to the same place for like...forever lol. I wan't to try/experience new things...like attending different schools you know..

OH and just in case u need to know, the school im attedning right now is los alamitos high school...the one i can move to is cypress high school....i want to move to sunny hills high but thats just way to far for me

Experience new things? College is just a year around.
If you reallllyy wanted a new change, you should've switched sooner.
I mean...you get a higher chance of being valedictorian at a lower academic level school..yet..it probably wont prepare you for college as much..

I dont think it should matter much..it's what you get out of the change, if that's what you really want, go for it.

yea honestly, forget what move is best for college, and just make the move that makes you happy. Plus it's something you can talk about on your college apps and interviews.

well to my knowledge, it doesn't look good... and besides it's so complicated.. why would you do thaT? then you have to like get recs and stuff from your other school and your transcripts and stuff have to be sent over blablabla....

don't you want to stay with your friends and graduate with theM?

and also.. college is a year away... "experience new things"? haha.. don't worry. you will.

Mmm.. the only thing I have to say about this is many people don't have the privilege of going to school and here you are complaining about a school that you feel is too good for you.

yeah. colleges seem to look at your school. well, as for me, my town has 2 high schools. And high school A is very low in academics but high school B is very high ranked. And I go to high school B only cause I live closer. hehehe...

& if a really smart person from high school A were to apply at Princeton and a decent person from high school B applied for Princeton, the person from high school B would get in. Only cause the college knows that the academics in high school is better.

it's like....
if you are all in AP classes in a easy school and all in level 1s in a really hard school who would you pick?

I would transfer if it meant going from sub top 20% to being top 10%. Colleges care big time about ranking, especially if you are salutatorian/valedictorian. I went to probably most pristigious private school in the South with an SAT average of 1490. Everyone was capable of going to Ivies, but schools like Harvard had a policy/trend for only accepting valedictorians even with double/triple legacies applying.

i dont think you should switch at senior yr.. but that's just me.

yes i do think ur high school matters... my high school is the 2nd best in the state and its really hard for kids to get into all thenice schools aroudn the MA area because of my school's rep. lots of kids who would probably be able to get into princeton/harvard etc if they went to other nearby schools end up getting rejected because there are better students from our school. its way too competative here...

I don't think it matters. I go to a "bad" school that no one's ever heard of in my area and ppl from my school go to UC's/Private/ivy League all the time.

^ i dont thik the whole valedictorian thing makes much of a difference... i even heard that harvard tends to not go for the valedictorians... my cousin, for example, was valedictorian of her gigantic school and she was outright REJECTED from harvard...

don't switch schools just because you think you can get a higher rank. besides... i think colleges will kinda get the fact that the school you switched to is easier.. and that won't look good.

It may affect their decisions, because they take into account the level of competition in your school. The colleges aren't purblind, you know? sleep.gif?
Also, it will make your class rank and GPA calculations a large hassle. My friend came to my school starting her senior year and she argued with her colleges to say it wasn't fair that she switched to a harder school and that she WOULD be in the top 10% if she hadn't switched. -__________________-;;;;;. And she had to wait a long time before she got her class rank/gpa stuff figured out.

Don't do that. First of all, you need rec letters, and if you stay there for like less than half a year and ask for rec letters, then that's bad, because they don't know you well. And valedictorian means nothing. It may be a plus, but so many valedictorians were not accepted to Stanford, Berkeley, etc.

You're just lowering your standards and the colleges will see that you want to take the easy way out and not try.

But, it doesn't matter what school you're from. It matters on how you take the classes that the school offers you and how you use your limited resources. If someone at the lowest ranked school takes like 5 AP classes, and a person at the best high school takes 3 or something, the other is going to get accepted even though that person's school may not have had many AP classes to offer.

DO NOT DO IT!
So much of a hassle.
...and colleges can see right through your actions.

Oh yeah, it's TOO MUCH OF A HASSLE!

my school's #4 in the nation. (Eastside High School) That i can't read don't really matter. It does but it's not as important as YOU and YOURgrades, class rank, SAT/ACT, and etc. You are what they're looking at not the school. remember that

The high school you attend matter. Sometimes I picture college admissions people as having a list of the top 100 high schools right next to them to refer to. If you're going just to have a higher rank, then it's not worth it. Just stick with your friends and finish high school at the school you've been going to for the last 3 years.

Besides, college admissions people aren't stupid and can see what you're doing. Class rank is important, but not as important as some other factors.

Also, you'll be experiencing a whole different atmosphere in a year. Just wait until then. It'll probably be more worth it.
