Found Dear J! Actually have 2 of them, one is with Lee Sun Hee and one without.

Lee Sun Hee & Lee Seung Gi - Dear J

w00t.gif w00t.gif o51029: You're amazzzzing! Can you walk on water too? LOL. Thank you! You're so kind for digging up all these LSG oldies. They're great. Remind me of why I love this guy's voice.

Hey, for once, I think that the album's version is actually better than the live one. Probably because LSG looks slightly nervous in these. It's not the same tempo as in the album- it's more rock ballad (to accommodate LSH I think). Gosh, his stage presence has improved so much since those early days. His duet with LSH is so sweet. You can tell that she has this maternal pride about him. It shows every time they sing together. Collaboration on stage probably requires a lot of give-and-take between the performers. It takes off not only from the chemistry but also the generosity between the artists. Both harmonize very well. BTW, that song is so 80-ish. biggrin.gif (Well, you can't get any more 80's than a blue pleather jacket tongue.gif )

QUOTE (eequeezee @ Apr 1 2008, 01:04 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I have a cousin in Korea who told me that she heard LSG and his managers purposely decided to do remake albums because they really wanted to make him stand out as the youngest ballad singer, especially because he isn't a showy, sexy dancer/singer like an Usher. And, PART of the reason LSG's done remake albums is because he doesn't have the time to focus on working on original stuff at the moment, and also, Psy, who was hugely instrumental in the making of his first album, has been in the army...so hopefully, LSG won't be only doing ballads for too long?

Thanks for further translating his message. He's such a nice guy. Also thanks for the above. It confirms my guess about the album. It does feel kinda rushed. It just didn't have enough of the LSG-oomph. BTW, your mom would probably enjoy the above LSG-LSH "Dear J" clip. biggrin.gif

glitzyglam: I was just kidding. I know they don't sell those stuffs on yesasia. wink.gif I'm in Southern California. Love your side of the state though.
Track 1 (I'll give you all) was sung by JDG in All About Eve and by Rain/Bi in Full House. That was an easy one, girl! (Man, should I be embarrassed at all that I know these trivial facts ....)

ivey79: I looooove his radio performances. I think he's definitely more comfortable being off stage. He's able to concentrate on the songs more. And less on being cuteeee (Not that all of us particularly mind that!). Plus, he's able to wear all those cool street clothes! biggrin.gif "Hope and Desire"=love.

So you actually prefer the ballad version of "Dear J"? It is very pretty, but his rock version in the album is not bad either. It's more rock than rock ballad like the above. It shows off his "old" voice really well. I'd love it if he does a couple of duets. With either female or male singers. But if it's a female, can I request Younha? I adore her.

glitzyglam!!! you're Korean! Bahng-gahp-tAH!!! You're so lucky you live in the bay area where there are a lot of Koreans and Asians in general.
And bedifferent - you live in LA --- the city I know I will move to eventually and live forever --- AND you're just the coolest person.

I was born and raised and live outside of NY, and while there are Asians in the city, it's definitely not like SF or LA. I don't have many Asian friends because I'm one of THREE Asians at my entire school. I'm on the volleyball team (I'm pretty tall...) and the only junior captain on the team, and I still am sort of an outsider (sigh). If I didn't spend my Summers in LA, I'd die! glitzyglam, you will have to come down to LA this Summer after you get back from Korea and the three of us need to meet, and the two of you need to hang out with my mom and talk K-dramas - my mom watches just as much if not more dramas than you two HAHA!
Do you guys watch High Five before 1N2D? I want a High Five hooded sweatshirt SOOOOOOO bad!!!

o51029 - thanks so much for the vid. and bedifferent you're right about my mom liking the clipt haha --- I just woke up my mom to show the vid - she thought there was an emergency and was all YAH!!! when she realized I woke her up to watch a youtube clip haha - but then when she realized what it was she was so happy! thank you thank you!

Quick personal note about LSG - there was an episode of 1N2D - the one where they go to MC Mong's house to get the pots and pans for their trip (remember?). Anyway, while the guys were on the road, LSG started talking about how much fun 1N2D is. He said that after they tape the show, he watches it when it airs, and then watches it again like 5 to 7 times! My mom thought that that was SOOO cute - and that's when she really started to love him. Isn't that random haha.

Ok - off to sleep. Stay warm all!

Would anyone care to translate this? I found it on joynews.inews24.com

'1박2일' 은지원-MC몽-이승기, 가수 맞대결

박재덕 기자 avalo@joynews24.com

the first pair looks kinda freaky, but i love the second pair. 알로에! aloe!

but where's the 싯가 싯가 - sitga sitga from? i don't remember that?
okay, i feel like such a loser for looking it up;; lol, but i was curious..
it was when he was writing his contract and i guess they were negotiating with the PD (about the contract) and he asked for it??
lol, i don't really get it though because i don't know what 싯가 is sweatingbullets.gif

i found a blog with a list of all the funny stuff that defines lee seungki as 허당선생 so i'll do a little compilation of it later when it's not 5 in the morning sleep.gif;;
lol

I've searching or Seung Gi vids a LOT lately and there's still more I haven't seen! =) Thanks for finding this vid. This is my favorite song of his from Remake 1. I haven't found a lot of live performances of this so I really appreciate this. Is it just me or does he sound particularily good on radio? The way his voice echos is wonderful. Thanks!
it's my favorite too! And yes he does tend to sound even better on radio~ live in general!

hehe i'm currently watching 소문난 칠공주 right now.. and it's so funny how much they advertised for his 1st remake album in that drama!! hahaaa they keep puting songs on in the background.. and they have scenes in which lee seungki just sings songs from that album... smile.gif

oh, well i've acutally never seen All About Eve sweatingbullets.gif and I never really finished Full House. lol, I love Bi... but I'm the QUEEN of not finishing dramas... lol;;;

and I like the rock version better too.. it really gives a nice twist to the song and does emphasize his husky voice a lot smile.gif
lol, for some reason, you mentioning Younha just keeps reminding me of the when the 1N2D cast was watching TV and MC Mong was imitating her Wheesung's performance of Let's Get It Started...
lol, the part where they're like.. "Just shake it shake it shake it" &&Mc Mong totally distorts those words and makes it so hilarious... haha;;
sorry.. so random~

and I don't watch High Five.. how is that show? lol, I love Jo HyeRyun and HyunYoung~~

and yeah i remember that scene! lol i thought that was cute too;; our Seungki is just so concentrated in everything he does smile.gif yayy lee seungki fighting~~

and aksorpa - sorry i can't do a formal translation because it's like past 5 and i don't even know why i'm awake, but it basically talks about how Eun JiWon, Lee SeungKi, and MC Mong are all coming out with music.. like Lee SeungKi with his 2nd remake album.. and MC Mong will be coming out with one.. and Eun JiWon will come out with a digital single...
and so it's basically saying how they're all friends and competing at the same time! smile.gif

Hi glitzyglam -
I was thinking about going to the Hollywood Bowl this year, but even with the star studded lineup, I'm not itchin' to go since LSG won't be there. MC Mong is supposed to be at the Peace Concert, and I'll be in LA then, AND it's at USC, the school where I want to matriculate come fall '09! I am 80% sure I'm going to the concert.
If you go to NY to visit your sister, PM me for sure, and we can meet!

My mom and I LOVE Jo Jye Ryun! She's great! I like HyunYoung in small doses...but she's cool because she's Kim Jong Min's lady - I miss Kim Jong Min! High Five is an enjoyable show - it's a nice appetizer before the main course that is 1N2s hehe.

Hope everyone's having a great week!

I think we kinda discussed his MV a couple of pages back. These were my thoughts back then:

QUOTE (bedifferent @ Mar 20 2008, 11:01 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
It was not his best vocal. But listening to it a second time, I think he intended to give it a different spin. The song is meant to be a confession; a resigned one in fact. It's not a love declaration. If it was, the voice would have been stronger, with more conviction. To me, it feels like it's a man confessing, at the end of all ordeals, how he had given it all to the woman he loved. That he had risked and lost all for love. And he is tired. No? That's my take.

Yup, I miss his old voice too. But isn't this rendition sung in a similar tone as his later versions of "Hope and Desire"? Very subdued and fragile.

The song grew on me. Honestly, I was disappointed with this rendition (which I still think is not quite on par with Jo Kyu Man). It would have been perfect if Seung Gi sang it using his voice from Vol.2. But this version has a soft conversational quality to it (though some parts were lacking in power). It's still lovely in its own way. I respect that he gave it his own style. BTW, this song NEEDS to be performed via acoustic guitar. Especially with his voice.

Hmm, quiet thread. Just for fun, since we're being nostalgic with all these old video clips. I'd love to hear you guys' opinions on his Vol. 2 (Crazy For You). To me, it's the one that really give rise to LSG's voice and started all these mayhems ... ooops ... excitement among us- the twenties and under.

I like CFY, second only to his live concert album. I adore his voice in the concert. It was a clear, strong voice delivering the emotions and power perfectly. Crazy For You is notable for its range and really marked how much his voice has changed since debuting. It's a very distinct improvement. Three things that stood out for me regarding the album: (1) the album cover, (2) the variety in song choices and (3) "Words That Are Hard to Say". Nice head shot, I think someone mentioned "Beatles-like". A classic cover. The songs really show how versatile Seung Gi is. My favorites are Paradise, I Shout, Shapes of Your Lips and of course, Words That Are Hard to Say. That single is amazing. How he changed octaves in the middle of the song, after the first verse(s), is very impressive. The song is beautifully composed. He starts off low and deep, slowly builds the notes up to a soaring crescendo before ending where it all started. He made it look easy. w00t.gif

To be honest, I did cringe at some parts ... it's mixed emotions for me with that album. Still, the sincerity in his voice just make you smile. The potential was definitely there.

his latest image. he attended the funeral of lim sung hoon [from the turtle group] today.
oh dear.....he looks exhausted....

by the way,
2 stories of 2 korean girls who met Seung gi in person. one at his college and one at his sign event last year

1.

- REVIEW written by fan at Dong gook University (from .cafe.daum/leeseungki) -

That day in the afternoon...

As I was in my class, some friends told me sg was also at this place this morning.

I really feel depressed to hear about that.

I couldn't see sg at all...

foolish....

And then, I was waiting for my friends somewhere in college.

At that time passing by three male students leaving their class, I could catch big news like that

"I happened to see someone who I think resemble lee seung ki. But he was real LEE SEUNG KI."

I quickly run to vending machine right after hearing the information to give him some sprite.

I was not sure whether I can see him or not.

But I did it.

A few minutes later, real sg come out.

I went to him with sprite.

I said "Hi~ "

SG also said " Hi ~ " with smiling.

Then I gave him sprite..

He said "Thanks ~ " and disapeared with saying "Study hard ~~^^"

I don't remember the color of his outfit was dark brown or black.

But he was wearing leather jacket and jeans and in cap deeply,,,

and carrying a shoulder bag on the side.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

2. the review by another fan.

- At the fan signing event (date : 9/2, 2007) -

(In sum up)

Oh, I finally met him in the signing event!!

.

.

When I gor his autograph, I asked for this message to sg in front of me.

"Yoon Jung.

Study hard and We should marry after 2 years !!"

Showing my memo, he was looking at me with laughing hard.

I feel so embarrassed but I was really happy to see his smiling by me.

So I was laughing with him together.

Finally.

He wrote this.

"Yoon Jung,

Study hard and We should see around after 2 years!! KK"

I can see his great sense of humor wirting this word "KK"

And.

the last step.

Shaking hands!!

When I shook hands with him.

How warm his hands are ~~!!!!!

Really comfortable feeling...

I couldn't explain just by words.

I was really really happy at that day.

Thank you. Finally got a chance to see this. That was great. The beginning was a bit shaky but once he adjusted, he never lost control. The last 1:30 was classic LSG. Perf definitely not the same as the MV/album. Much much better (even with the poor audio). This version is very close to the original. Very nice. His live is going to be awesome. Can't believe he's twenty-one year old. His voice has so much depth and rich timbre now.

To be honest, I did cringe at some parts ... it's mixed emotions for me with that album. Still, the sincerity in his voice just make you smile. The potential was definitely there.

Okay, here are my thoughts now that I've digested (yummy tongue.gif ).

The negatives: The first time I listened to the album, I was very surprised at his voice, especially with the first few songs. And those songs really colored my perception of the rest of the album. I was never a fan of the 2nd song "Moth's Dream" though I really like his drawn out power notes in it. I'm just not into the melody of it. I think someone here mentioned that his "rough" voice seemed forced and wasn't his natural voice. I agree with that after listening to that second song and a couple of other songs. It somehow didn't seem natural. I also thought that in some songs he seemed almost...monotone? I don't know if that's the right word to use. He didn't showcase his range in some parts. Those were my thoughts on the first listen sweatingbullets.gif

The positives: Listening to the album as a whole, overall, I have to say the songs are more my type of songs. I don't typically listen to ballads a lot. I'm more of a rock person and enjoy faster music. I don't know what it is about this boy that I'm listening to his ballad music laugh.gif The songs themselves are good. I definitely prefer this type of album over the slower ballad albums. I agree with you, he showed a lot of potential in his first cd. I quite like the album now.

^^ I like the 3rd song (except for the rap part, it just doesn't fit!). It sounds fun smile.gif
I think "Because you're my girl" definitely stood out and was a good title song for him.
Is that him rapping in "Father"? I know he rapped the parts in his concert but I really can't tell with his voice. It really sounds like a different person!
"Sak Jae" I like it okay ^^ I think that had to do with seeing the video though sweatingbullets.gif I think I like his live performance better.
I thought "On the road to vacation" was a little monotone but I liked the last minute or so of it. It was a pleasant song.
"You inside of me" was boring.
"Music Time". I think he had a...youngish voice here. It wasn't perfect vocally but it was alright.
"Dear J" was a pretty good rockin song.
The last song, I really really really like smile.gif Really good song. It's just...BIG, like the whole orchestra and chorus.

hey, o51029, thanks for making it real. It's ok, you should not have to like all his songs. It just make him human. I was bracing for a oh-my-god-he's-so-fine-he's-so-mine kinda review. Thank god I was wrong. You didn't disappoint. hehehe

I agree. I'm truly not a ballad type of a person either. What makes LSG different (or perhaps intuitively smart) is that he picks the right songs for his vocal. His ballads are catchy, slightly edgier and always compliment his singing ability. So you end up not hearing the same run-of-the-mill mainstream ballads. Good example is his Remake #1. A lot of people actually like his reinterpretations more than the original works.

I thought volume 1 is almost the total opposite of his Remake #2. It's a lot of unharnessed energy; not as much finesse and control. Remake # 2 is, on the opposite, all emo! Too much emo in fact. Re Vol.1: I like the raspy voice in some of the songs, but not in others. In some songs, he did sound a little too ... loud. You're right, he does sound flat in a few songs because there were a slight lack of emotions in them.

I like the 3rd song also. Rapping is his, song is fun.
Because You're My Girl: love the music video so it's definitely a thumbs up. He sang well in it.
Sak Jae is better sung later in the live album. He was able to hold the notes longer there. There were more control with the higher notes in the concert.
Dear J = teenage garage rock band. It's highschool-ish, appropriate for his age.
The last song is interesting. Almost movie soundtrack like with all the background instruments. Not quite sure of its intention. Glad you like it. Though it did not quite go with the rest of the album.

Overall, the album is a pretty good 1st album for a seventeen year old. One with some powerful pipes. It was different enough and make good use of his vocal. It's good but not excellent all the way through. But I like it for its sincerity. He gave it a good try. Maybe trying too hard at times like you said.

Thanks for the conversation. I really appreciate your YT uploads. They're awesome works. **clap** biggrin.gif

Here's a quick video dropoff before I go to work smile.gif

Lee Seung Gi - 다줄꺼야 (radio live)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4et3hEWBvA

Wow. This is the first live performance I've seen from his remake album. It was nice, interesting. He's definitely attempting a different singing style. Very soft and subtle. As pretty as it is, it also drives me a little crazy though. It feels as if he's holding back is voice and all the while I'm dying for him to let it out. What I've always appreciated about his voice is the way the melody just comes out so smoothly and easiy as if there's no resistance. But this type of singing style is soo... restrained I guess. I was happy towards the end when he was able to let go a little more for the higher notes and climax. Bedifferent, your right he is amazing for being 21. His tone, richness, range, and control is more like someone who's sung for 10 years. Overall a nice performance and it's always soooo good to see him on radio. His eyes are always closed with intensity and concentration as if he's in his own musical world.

Vanny, good to see you back so soon! And with more updates. I'm very excited for this episode of Love Letter, hopefully it will be this week. I'm very very pleased with is haircut =) And thank you for the two fan accouts. He is such a friendly, down to earth kinda guy. I can imagine it what it would be like to come up to him and say hi. He so shy and courteous. He's pretty witty too. That was smart of him to change up that girls message for him to sign. He made her happy without having to write something so awkward. Smart, cute, talented, and great fashion sense too... what a perfect guy, no? =)
