I met up with my tennis teammates for lunch today --- I can feel school getting closer and closer. SIGH. At least it's my last year. Sarang-unnie, you already started school huh?

o51029 - I have a lot of relatives on my dad's side who live in Vancouver. I've been there once after I graduated from elementary school. I hope to go visit again. It's on my must-visit list. Along with San Fran (Hi Bee-unnEE!) and Singapore (Hi Sarang-unnie). I'm going to draw up a contract for my mom to sign stipulating that I go to all these places next Summer before we settle down in LA. I know I'll be in Korea for about a month so o51029, save up and maybe you can go visit your cousin at the same time! I must start visualizing all this happening.

btw - My relatives all are crazy about 1N2D - they tell me that it's really THEE show over there. My 10 and 11 year old relatives love MCMong the best, and the older peeps love LSGeun, which I thought was interesting. And they all love LSG --- they have a tough time believing just how well-mannered he is.

Glitzyglam-unnie - I think you're in Korea as I write this right??? Did you meet him? I hope so, cuz if you don't/didn't, SeungGi oppa nekkuh!~~

Dugi I have no idea what song he was singing. But it looked like a blast. My country's waited 48 years for an Olympic medal of any colour, so its really important to all of us. I cried while watching the match, it was so nerve wrecking! They were matched point for point so many times! But the girls did well, and we are promised at least a silver in the bag now. Don't think we will get the gold, China is really too strong in table tennis. But I'm so proud of them that they got this far. My mom was funny, she was like, hohum, now isn't our little girl here in the midst of a divided loyalties dilemma? (since we were playing against south korea, LOL) Funny. Hey, our boy is going to play table tennis in one of the coming episodes too, isn't he? Anticipating it so much!

Gosh. The mad dash to finish subs before my vacation. Always have been the one to cram the nite before tests. Bad habits never go away. eequeezee, I promise. It will be done.

Thanks sarangaia for posting the pics. He does look terrific in the dark suit and tie. SO happy that he�s keeping it up. Yay, anytime he stays away from the geometric patterns (may it be striped �horizontal/vertical, checkered, plaid or plain zebra), I�m like totally for it. Hmm, just have to do something about the hair. I actually think the light blue jacket/white shirt J-Crewish look fits him well. The cut is not the greatest but the color is thumbs up. He looks his age, casual but polished. Kinda feel bad for him having to wear all of this in the middle of what probably is 100% humid weather. DuGi, exert some self control, would ya? Congratulations to Singapore for winning the match. Nice to see the Olympics spirit alive and well. Same thoughts for Korea�s Park Tae Hwan. Amazing job. It�s ashamed that the US coverage is so Michael Phelps-centric. I mean he�s inhumanly amazing and totally deserved of praise; but our Olympics coverage here in the US is too limited. There�s a whole world out there. Hello!! BTW, it�s ok for your heart to be divided between pure national pride and pure fangirl fantasies. We all are entitled to our escapism.

So here�s my freshman attempt at subbing music. I�m trying to get most of the songs in the Love Concert translated. We�ll see how far I can go. I�ll try to sub those that have not been translated first. Here�s You, Inside of Me (or maybe Inside Me, There�s You, something like that�). Melodies may not be as memorable as others but lyrics are not too bad. Sounding a little borderline needy, but kinda nice in a few places. People, these ballad lyrics are totally depressing. Seriously. Ever heard of we-can-be-friends and leave it at that.

Bedifferent, great job on the subbing vid!!! Sucess! It's amazing how understanding the lyrics can add that much more to an already great performance. Very sad and touching. Gosh, his was awesome during his concert days wasn't it? Just beautiful and rich. I seriously need to go buy his concert cd. Seriously, I really need to.

Sarangaia, congrats to you and your country!! It must of have a very proud and emotional moment. Nationlism has never been a strong point in American culture, but Olympics is the exception. When it comes down to it you can't help but feel and honor and proud when someone representing your homeland achieves greatness. Yes Michael Phelps is awesome and I am proud too But I do agree with bedifferent, I wish NBC could be a little more broad in their coverage of their olympics. We get a microscopic view of what goes on at the games. Its ALL about America and well a little China too, but seriously we see mainly Volleyball, track, basketball, gymnastics, and swimming. What else goes on? Heck if I know. Ah well, thank goodness for the internet.

Oh and thanks for the pics. Singing in the rain, very nice. =) Not sure which suit I liked better. The light blue suit was more casual and fun, although the texture was a little odd. Classic black suits always look great on him and I do agree the skinny tie was a nice touch, but I wouldn't have minded either if he ditched the tied and loosened his collar to expose some skin , I've always liked that look. Great suit with open collar.

And I agree with the sentiment of 1n2d being a little unorganized these days. I miss the old format of showing up, playing games, washing up, going to bed, and annoying waking them up. These days it feels scattered and bit rushed. Ah well, still love those guys and their moments. Looking forward to ping pong this week!!

dosirak 하이틴 스타에서 드디어 �성년� 가수가 되었습니다. 주위의 환경이라든지 개인적인 심리 등에 있어서 변화한 것이 있다면요.
이승기 그때나 지금이나 마음가짐은 똑같은 것 같아요. 난 하이틴 스타다 뭐 그런걸 생각해본 적은 없고. 전 그냥 항상 '가수 이승기'라고 생각을 했기 때문에 뭔가를 구분 짓지는 않았어요. 항상 저희 선생님(이선희)을 목표로 하면서 달려왔기 때문에... 예전 마음이랑 지금 마음이랑 조금 달라진 게 있다면 욕심이 좀 더 많이 생겼고 배포도 좀 는 것 같고.. 뭘 해도 좀 더 잘하고 싶은 그런 의욕이 많이 충만해졌어요.
dosirak 락 �발라드� 가수로 많이 알려져 있는데 좀 더 강하고 비트가 있는 밴드 지향적 록음악을 본격적으로 해 보실 생각은 없으신가요? 예컨대 Crazy For You 같은�
이승기 네. 사실 Crazy For You같은 곡은 아주 이국적인 락이에요. 작곡해주신 분도 미국에 계시는 분이고. 곡을 처음 받았을 때. 한국에서 그런 락을 하시는 분은 없는 것 같아요. 이국적인 느낌이 강하고... 또 솔직히 말해서 기타 코드나 주법, 악곡의 세세한 부분 같은 게 외국 거랑 거의 비슷해요. 외국 곡은 기승전결이 그렇게 뚜렷하지가 않거든요. 그런 곡이어서 사실 좀 힘들었어요. 제가 하던 음악도 아니고, 또 처음으로 그런 비트를 접해봐서 녹음하는데 있어서 애도 많이 먹었죠. 또 작곡가분이 연습을 통한 향상을 강조하셔서� 그렇게 Crazy For You 같은 경우 정말 연습을 통해서 만들어진 곡입니다.
dosirak 그럼 본격적으로 그런 식의 음악을 해보고 싶은 생각은 없는 거구요?
이승기 아, 기회가 되면요. 밴드와 같이 해보고 싶어요.


dosirak 2월 스케줄 표가 아주 빡빡하던데요. 방송활동 중에 오는 피로 같은 건 주로 어떤 방법을 통해 푸시나요?
이승기 음...피로..를 잘 안 느껴요. 하하하... 사실 피로를 안 느끼려고 해요.(기침) 지금 걸린 감기 같은 것도 사실 라이브 때 굉장히 불안했던 적이 많은데요. 이 목소리로 부를 수 있을까 하고 주위에서 걱정해줄 정도인 경우도 있는데. 아직 데뷔한지도 얼마 안됐고 해서 그저 어떻게든 불러야겠다 하는 생각이 강해요. �이 노래 못 부르면 죽는구나� 뭐 이런. 어쨌든 그렇게 불러야겠다는 생각이 있으니까 정말 본 방송 때는 확 하고 불러지더라구요?(웃음) 아무리 힘들어도. 그렇게 하고싶어서 한다는 의지가 일단 있으니깐 뭔가 피로함을 피부로 느끼는 수준까진 안가게 되더라구요.


dosirak 새 앨범이 전작에 비해 파워풀해지고 남성적으로 변했다는 반응이 많습니다. 신작을 제작하면서 나름대로 세워둔 주안점 같은 게 있다면요.
이승기 모든 면에서, 뭐랄까� 사실 1집이 정말 과분한 사랑을 많이 받았어요. 그래서 2집을 준비하면서는 뭔가 달라진 모습을 보여드려야겠다고 생각을 했는데 그렇게 처음으로 생각을 했던 게 이제 1집 때의 어린 목소리를 벗어야겠다는 거. 그래서 발성 연습부터 다시 했구요. 가장 핵심적인 포인트는 �많이 성숙해졌구나� 하는 느낌이 들도록 하는 것이었죠. 음악적으로나 목소리로나 감정 표현으로나 그렇게. 그리고 노래를 부르면서 가장 생각을 많이 했던 것은 노래를 '진심으로' 부르자 하는 것. 사실 노래를 부르다 보면...'녹음'을 한다는 거는 몇 시간 동안 한 곡만 부르는 거잖아요. 그러다 보면 한 구절 한 구절 부를 때 불필요한 테크닉이 무의식적으로 들어가버리는 경우가 있어요. 그래서 그런걸 가급적 버리고 가능하면 순수하게 내 안에서 느껴지는 감정을 끄집어내자�이렇게 생각하면서 임했습니다.





dosirak 모델, 탤런트 활동을 병행하고 계십니다. 가수 활동 하는 데 별다른 지장 같은 건없나요?
이승기 뭔가 다양한 걸 한다는 건 일단 좋은 일인 것 같아요. 철저한 준비 없이 섣불리 했다간 이도 저도 아니게 되는 수가 있거든요. 사실 연기는, 아직은 진짜진짜 많이 부족하지만 기회가 되면 진지하게 정말 해보고 싶어요. 어쨌든 그렇게 기회가 된다면 가수를 하면서도 드라마나 영화를 하고 싶고. 연기자 활동이 가수 활동에 꼭 지장이 된다고는 생각하지 않아요. 뭘 하든 그 순간순간에 집중해서 하면 반드시 좋은 결과가 있을 거라 생각하거든요.

dosirak 그래도 그룹사운드 경험이 있으니 음악쪽에 더 애정이 크지 않을까 하고 생각되는데. 실제론 어떠세요?
이승기 네. 아직까지는 음악에 대한 욕심이 더 많죠. 올라가야 될 부분도 너무 많고. 제가 지금까지는 노래만 보여줬기 때문에, 뭐 악기나 작곡, 그리고 음악성 측면에서 더 완성도 있는 모습을 보여드리고 싶고...네. 굳이 욕심으로 따지자면 제가 가수로 데뷔를 했으니까 아무래도 음악에 좀 더 애정이 가죠. 근데 연기를 하는 것도 경험적인 측면에서 음악 하는 데 도움이 많이 되는 것 같아요. 단지 음악만 해서 뮤지션이 되는 것보다� 연기도 해보고 그렇게 뭔가를 두루 해본 사람이 음악을 하는 것과 또 음악만 해왔던 사람들도 그들만의 장점이 있겠지만 여러 가지로 실제적인 감정을 많이 느껴본 사람이 만드는 음악도 꽤 좋을 거라는 생각을 해요.

dosirak 본인이 연기자이기도 한데, 스크린 쿼터 축소 문제에 관해선 어떻게 생각하시나요?
이승기 저도 영화를 되게 좋아해요. 시간 나면 극장가서 영화를 보는데. 스크린 쿼터 축소에 대해서는..저도 어느 정도 반대에요. 지금처럼 한국영화가 많이 성장을 했으면 좋겠고. 그렇기 때문에 어떻게 보면 외국영화가 무수히 들어오는데도 <왕의남자> 같은 게 천만 명 끌고 막 이런 게 그 쪽 종사자들에게는 굉장히 힘이 나는 일이잖아요. 그래서 이런 게 그분들이 더 열정적으로 일할 계기가 될 수도 있는 건데 여기서 딱 하고 흐름을 끊어버리면 좀 그렇죠. 또 스크린 쿼터를 늘린 것도 제가 알기론 얼마 지나지 않은 일이거든요. 제가 고등학교 다닐 때 논술문제로 나오구 막 그랬었는데. 어쨌든 그렇게 길어야 한 3년? 이정도 인데 벌써 또 축소한다 이래 버리면, 자리가 확실히 잡히지 않은 상태에서 그런 결정을 내려버리면 좀 위험해지지 않나 그렇게 생각합니다.


dosirak 시트콤 논스톱에서 팬들에게 아주 좋은 인상을 남겨주셨는데요. 연기자로서 그때의 활동을 잠시 뒤돌아본다면 어떤 생각이 드시나요.
이승기 많이 배웠어요. 정말 많이 배웠고. 시트콤을 하면서 제가 갖고 있던 많은 선입견이나 편견, 혹은 몸의 자세 같은 데서 경직적인 부분이 많이 풀렸었고.. 또 연기를 한다는 건 사람의 감정을 표현하는 거니까..제가 부족했던, 감정 표현하는 것도 많이 배웠구요. 항상 가수는 무대에 혼자 올라가서 자기 안의 것만 보여주잖아요. 반면 연기는 일곱 명 여덟 명이서 한 호흡을 맞춰서.. 욕심을 부리면 안 되는 거니까. 또 나만 잘한다고 되는 게 아니니까. 그런걸 많이 배웠죠. 호흡하는 장면이나 뭐 그런.



dosirak 좋아하는 음악 장르와 즐겨 듣는 앨범(뮤지션)이 있다면?
이승기 모던락 계열을 되게 좋아해요. 사실 제가 보컬이니까 보컬 사운드가 좀 강한 쪽을 선호하기도 하구요.


dosirak 예를 들면요?
이승기 예전에는 브라이언 아담스(Bryan Adams)를 되게 좋아했었구요. 스팅(Sting)은 정말 너무 좋아해요. 공연도 가봤었는데 너무 좋았어요. 그렇게 스팅은 정말 특별한 존재고. 또 버티컬 호라이즌(Vertical Horizon). 이번에 작곡가 분이 추천해주시기도 한 그룹인데 그 친구들도 아주 좋아요. 또..미국의 후바스탱크(Hoobastank). 그런 류의 음악도 괜찮구요.


dosirak 어제 오아시스(Oasis)가 내한 공연을 했었는데 혹시 가보셨나요?
이승기 어...저런. 못 가봤어요.(웃음) 제가 작년인가 영국에서 오아시스랑 마룬 파이브(Maroon 5)랑 함께 공연을 한다 이래 가지고 한번 가보고 싶었어요. 사실 영국 자체도 꼭 한번 가보고 싶었거든요. 하여튼 오아시스를 굉장히 좋아하는데, 이런�어제 왔었군요.


dosirak 가장 닮고 싶은 사람이 있다면요. 존경할만한 사람 같은..
이승기 스팅! 뮤지션들에게 존경 받는 뮤지션 같은 그런 사람요. 그리고 다양성 있는 음악을 하는 사람, 그러니까 단순히 가수라는 이미지를 떠나서 자신만의 자연스런 �포스� 같은 게 있는 사람. 그런 사람들이 존경스럽죠.


dosirak 자신이 생각하는 라이벌이 있다면요?
이승기 라이벌은 없어요. 라이벌은 없고. 왜 없냐면 무대에 서면 어떤 가수가 서든지 간에 일반인은 못 느끼는 저마다의 장점 같은 게 나타나거든요. 누구나 다 다른. 이효리씨도 그렇고 테이씨도 그렇고. 그렇게 �라이벌�이라기보다는 그 사람들만이 가지고 있는 카리스마나 개성 있는 장점들을 많이 보려고 해요. 그래서 뭐 라이벌은, 제가 아직 라이벌이 있을 군번도 못되고.(웃음)




dosirak 한 인터넷 포털 사이트에서 주관하는 책 읽기 캠페인에 자발적으로 참여한 것으로 알고 있습니다. 평소에 독서를 즐기는 편이신가요.
이승기 지금은 가끔 밖에 못하구요. 사실 제가 책이 되게 읽고 싶어요.(웃음) 이게 표현이 맞는지는 모르겠는데 하여튼 읽고 싶어하는 사람이에요. 시간이 안 되서라기보다 제가 게을러서 안 읽는 거라고 해야 되는데(웃음). 책을, 좋은 책을 많이 사요. 시간을 내서 한번에 몽땅 다 읽어버리고 그런 건 아닌데 제가 서점가서 직접 보면서 책 사는걸 되게 좋아하거든요. 내가 정말 좋아하는 작가들을 찾아보기도 하고.


dosirak 도시락에 십대 이용자 분들이 많습니다. 청소년기에 감명 깊게 읽었던 책을 한 권 정도만 추천해 주신다면.
이승기 음�하퍼 리(Harper Lee)의 앵무새 죽이기(To Kill a Mockingbird)를 인상 깊게 읽었던 기억이 있습니다.


dosirak 혹시 다룰 줄 아는 악기가 있으신가요.
이승기 뭐 잘 다룬다고 할만한 악기는 아직 없구요. 제가 좋아해서 취미로 배우고 있는 악기는 일렉기타. 외국 공연들을 보면서, 제가 사실 춤을 출 줄 모르기 때문에 나는 그것 말고 뭘 해야 할까 생각하다가 그렇게 잡게 됐습니다. 제가 언젠가 뭐 그게 조만간 되든 한참 뒤가 되든 꼭 한번 무대 위에서 악기를 다뤄봤으면 하는 꿈은 있어요.


dosirak 고교시절 밴드활동을 하신 것으로 아는데요. 당시 포지션은 무엇이었고 주로 어떤 장르의 음악을 연주했나요.
이승기 포지션은 물론 보컬이었구요. 장르는 하드 락적인 것을 많이 했어요. 스키드 로우(Skid Row)나 스트라이퍼(Stryper), 혹은 반 헤일런(Van Halen) 같은..지금도 그런 음악들을 많이 들어요. 그때로선..사실 이게 좀 올드한 음악이잖아요. 그래서 지금은 모던락이나 얼터너티브 음악을 많이 듣기도 하구요.


dosirak 당시 멤버들하고는 지금도 연락을 하고 지내는지.
이승기 네. 다는 못하고, 그때 베이스 치던 친구를 얼마 전에 방송국에서 봤어요. 봐서 '어, 너..' 그러면서 놀랬는데 이수영 선배 베이스 세션으로 있다고 그러더라구요.(웃음) 그렇게..당시 멤버들 지금 다 음악쪽으로 잘 해나가고 있는 걸고 알고 있습니다.


dosirak 와~ 그 정도면 당시 밴드 실력이 굉장히 좋았을 것 같은데요.
이승기 하하�뭐 저희 동네에선 유명했죠.




dosirak 현영씨가 �내 여자라니까�의 답가로 가수 데뷔를 하겠다고 공개적으로 선언했습니다. 이승기씨도 매우 기대하고 있는 것으로 아는데 막상 노래가 공개되면 어떻게 대응해주실 예정인지.
이승기 하하. 뭐 대응이랄 게 있겠나요. 현영씨가 제 노래에 대한 답가를 해주신다고 하면 저야 고맙죠. 그만큼 제 노래가 많이 알려졌다는 얘기일테니까 그런 건 참 고맙고. 그리고 현영씨는 만능 엔터테이너시니까. 가수라는 게 또 새로운 도전이니만큼 전 기쁘게 생각하고 또 격려를 해드리고 싶죠.



dosirak 언론에 �이상형은 남상미, 결혼상대는 구혜선�이라고 보도된 적이 있었는데요. 어떻게 된건가요. (웃음)
이승기 (웃음) 아..네. 그게 한 토크쇼에서였는데요. 거기서 이승기와 연기한 여자 분들이 사진으로 나온 거에요. 한 다섯분 정도 나왔는데 거기서 막 이상형, 결혼상대 이렇게 뽑으래니까.(웃음) 어쩔 수가 없잖아요. 그래서 그때는 뭐 진지한 분위기로 했던 건 아니었어요. 그리고 동료 연기자로서 남상미씨와 구혜선씨는 정말 존경할 만큼 좋은 분들이시죠.


dosirak 반항적이고 남성적인 캐릭터를 연기해보고 싶다고 밝힌 바 있습니다. 평소에도 남성적인 코드를 좋아하는 편인가요.
이승기 네. 남성적인 것 좋아요. <달콤한 인생>같은 느와르 장르의 영화를 되게 좋아하거든요. 그에 반해서 <러브 액츄얼리>같은 휴먼 코메디 장르를 또 좋아하기도 하구요. 그런 따뜻한 것들도 좋아하는데, �연기를 해보고싶다�는 걸로 친다면 제가 사실 그 동안 해왔던 게 조금은 모범생적인 이미지, 착한 이미지였는데 이제는 그런 걸 좀 벗어나서 반항아적이고 마초적인 연기도 한번 해보고 싶다� 뭐 그래서 그런 말이 나오게 된 것 같습니다.




dosirak 절친하게 지내는 동료 연예인들로는 누가 있나요.
이승기 김종국씨나.. 종국이 형은 제가 되게 좋아하는 형이에요. 남자답고 잘 챙겨주시고..최근 활동하는 사람들 중엔 플라이 투 더 스카이(Fly To The Sky) 형들...이 정도요.


dosirak 1집에서 결정적 역할을 해 준 싸이, 신해철씨 하고는 지금도 자주 연락하시는지?
이승기 아니 그게� 제가 휴대폰이 없어요.(웃음) 휴대폰이 없어서. 싸이 형하고는 가끔씩 다른 전화 같은 걸로 연락을 주고받고 해요. 예전에 신인상 받고 할 때 그때 고맙다고 인사도 자주 드리고 그랬는데. 최근엔 그분들도 개인적인 앨범 작업하고 바쁘시고 해서� 예전만큼 활발하게 연락을 하고 지내지는 못해요.


dosirak 그래도 이승기씨만의 개인적인 사생활이란 게 있을 텐데 핸드폰이 없으면 불편하지 않나요.
이승기 네... 많은 분들이 그렇게 생각을 하실건데. 그게 휴대폰이 없어서 편한 경우가 되게 많아요. 항상 있는걸 없애기가 겁이 나는 부분이 있어서 그렇지 막상 없어 보면 되게 편하거든요? 뭐 대부분 생활이 불가능할 거다 이렇게 생각할텐데. 뭐 그런 불편함 같은 건 전혀 느끼지를 못합니다. 물론 언젠가는 만들어야겠죠. 근데 1집부터 쭉 없어왔기 때문에(웃음) 사실 또 특별히 만들 계기 같은 것도 없었구요.




이승기 사실 처음에는 MP3라는 그런 게 나왔을 때 제 몸으로 실감을 하지를 못했어요. 음반시장이 얼마나 불황인가 하는 뭐 그런. 왜냐하면 1집 때는 가수 활동 자체를 처음 하는 게 되가지구 모든 게 어수선해서 음반시장에 대한 흐름이랄까 뭐 그런걸 파악할 정황이 없었어요. 근데 2집에 와서..앨범 판매보다 불법 다운이나 이런 게 많아지는 현상을 보니 되게..답답하긴 해요 사실. 왜냐면 가수는 정말 힘들게 만들잖아요. 녹음하는 매 순간순간 자신의 한계를 계속 뛰어넘어 가야 되고. 또 녹음실 앞에선 항상 긴장된 자세로 있을 수 밖에 없고..그렇게 1년 혹은 1년 6개월을 충분히 준비하고 또 고생해서 13곡이라는 결과물이 나오는 거거든요. 그런데 그런 앨범의 가치가 불법적인 형식으로 훼손되버리면 저희들로서도 좀 답답하죠. MP3든 CD든 형태는 상관없지만 최근처럼 무방비로, 불법적이고 광범위하게 다운로드가 된다는 건 좀... 그렇죠. 저도 MP3플레이어를 사용을 하는데. 일단 가수 CD를 사서 그걸 리핑한 걸로 듣거든요. 그리고 또 MP3랑 앨범은 분명히 차이가 있어요. 앨범을 사게 되면 그 앨범에 대한 심층적인 정보 같은 걸 많이 알 수가 있거든요. 음악 하나를 들어도 가사나 악기 세션이라든가 뭐 그런 걸 볼 수가 있으니까... 외국 뮤지션의 앨범 같은 경우는 항상 평론지가 한 장 실리더라구요. 그런 것도 도움이 되게 많이 되구.
