They've already announced the new French squad a couple or so days ago.

*****

French Squad:

Defenders: Eric Abidal (Olympique Lyon), Jean-Alain Boumsong (Newcastle United), François Clerc (Olympique Lyon), William Gallas (Chelsea), Gael Givet (Monaco), Philippe Mexes (AS Roma), Willy Sagnol (Bayern Munich)

Midfielders: Alou Diarra (Racing Lens), Julien Faubert (Girondins Bordeaux), Florent Malouda (Olympique Lyon), Rio Mavuba (Girondins Bordeaux), Jeremy Toulalan (Olympique Lyon), Patrick Vieira (Inter Milan)

Strikers: Thierry Henry (Arsenal), Franck Ribery (Olympique Marseille), Louis Saha (Manchester United), David Trezeguet (Juventus), Sylvain Wiltord (Olympique Lyon)

*****

I hope they do well. I'm a little ashamed to admit this but without Zizou, my interest in Les Bleus has exponentially dropped sad.gif I guess I support Team Zizou more than the NT ... Henry is still there though, so I'll still support them ... until Henry quits too I guess (which won't be the case at least until after WC2010).

Aw, I've been waiting for the list, thank you for posting it by the way, and now I feel so sad because so many of my favorites aren't named on the team. But I supposed it's because they're "old."

SAGNOL!!!!! YES!!!! He's one of the best defenders I've seen, in my opinion.
Great list of Strikers. smile.gif Ribery's a striker now, ey?
Wow, so many unfamiliar names.
Do you know who the goalie and coach are?

I was a Team Zizou supporter too. biggrin.gif But then after following France the whole WC, I fell in love with the whole team. smile.gif
It's almost habitual to look for Zidane's name in the list of midfielders. sad.gif

WTH. Cisse wasn't named? Is he still injured? xD

Yeah! And even in the final, Sagnol really was the team's backbone, aside from Zidane. Even though he's a defender, he was really great.

I am in NO WAY saying that Wayne Rooney is the next Zinedine Zidane, laugh.gif I don't believe it,
but Zidane had a temper problem too, and Wayne is still young.
Except I think Wayne is worse than Zidane ever was. xD

Sorry if you like him, I like him too, it's just his little problem. biggrin.gif
He was really cute on Ferdinand's Punk'd thing. laugh.gif

Zizou is definitely out since he retired. Makelele, I think, has also returned to international retirement. Thuram is still thinking about it and IIRC, Domenech said something that if he decides NOT to retire internationally he might accomodate him. Fabian Barthez wasn't put in the line-up because he doesn't have a club team (he doesn't play for Olympique Marseille anymore). I don't know if Domenech will put him back in the line-up if/when he finds a club. I think Coupet will be the goalkeeper now since Barthez is out.

Domenech is still coach, I think until Euro 2008 and depending on how well the team does. I still love Les Bleus and wear the team jersey proudly whenever I can, but shamefully not to the degree of "Oh-no-you-didn't-just-say-that-about-MY-Les-Bleus-you-#*&%! 'Cause-now-I'm-gonna-have-to-headbutt-a-biotch!" sort of way that I used to.

In my twisted little fantasy world, Domenech quits after Euro2008 and Zizou takes up the coaching for Les Bleus for WC2010. Or maybe Thuram ('cause he's made of awesome). A girl can dream ... wink.gif

*****

It sucks to hear about Beckham sad.gif I think he's pretty alright, very likable. It's his wife that grates me ph34r.gif

I personally think he's dropped only from the friendly matches and that he's going to be reinstated in time for the qualifiers. UNLESS ... unless this new England team shows some remarkable improvement in their friendly games. Then it's adieu to Monsieur Beckham internationally.

I really liked Makelele. sweatingbullets.gif I loved pronouncing his name all the time. biggrin.gif
I don't think Thuram will continue playing... by '10, I think time will have caught up.
But you never know!

I love Barthez, but he's older than Zidane for goodness sake! Well Kahn's pretty old too... xD

I love that fantasy!!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif And then he can be the coach forever and all four of his sons can play for him and France. biggrin.gif
Domenech's great, but his obsession with that whole fortune telling thing is a bit odd...

I think goalkeepers get to play longer than the other positions because they don't exert themselves as physically as, say, a striker or a midfielder (in terms of running back and forth). I kinda doubt Barthez coming back just because he seems clumsy most of the time. IIRC, it was a little bit of a shock that he was chosen over Coupet.

My other fantasy is in twenty years' time ... it involves WC2026 where a 24-year-old Theo Zidane will be playing for Les Bleus. He'll be wearing the same #10 as his father, play the same position with the same prodigious skill, and lead France to victory tongue.gif

it's crazy I feel like Zidane is gone forever, but he's not ... but it just feels like he's gone forever... sad.gif I'm so effin sad it's not even funny, it's like I can't accept that zidane is no longer playing football

it's really sad seeing the pioneers leave sad.gif

ph34r.gif I hope I've got the right person. crazy.gif

http://www.cr17.com/index.php/board,8.0.html

Most are C.Ronaldo fics cuz it's a C.Ronaldo fansite, but there are a couple of Fernando Torres ones.

And thanks so much for posting your pictures!!! Cannavaro stretching was very sexy! I nearly passed out from excitement!

are you required to be able to do that when you're German?? (lol I kid I kid)

http://www.soccergirlz.de/wp-content/schwe..._schlagzeug.jpg
it also seems to be a requirement that when you play for your national football team, you have to play instruments, sing, and dance for your adoring fans biggrin.gif
like the Portugese!!!
