The U.S. National Football League has named the half-Korean wide-receiver Hines Ward Super Bowl XL MVP.

After his team dealt a decisive defeat to the Seattle Seahawks with 21-10 at the fortieth Super Bowl in Detroit on Sunday, MVP Hines Ward from the Pittsburgh Steelers kisses the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

In the 40th year of the U.S. most-loved sporting event, Ward was good for five catches and 123 yards including the final TD leading his team to a 21-10 victory -- a feat that made him well deserving of the MVP designation. Ward put on a strong rushing performance too, pushing back the Seahawks by 18 yards in his sole attempt. Riding the athlete’s wave of activity on the field, the Steelers were able to muster enough hustle to once again rise to the zenith of the sport, after 26 years of naught. This Super Bowl win puts the Steelers in a class of titans as their name is added to the sparse list of five-ring teams like the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers.

Fighting against a stonewall of defense dished up by the Seahawks, it wasn't until the second quarter, when Ward pulled an 18-yard run on an end-around, that the real onslaught began. At the second attempt at a third down, the real tide-turner, Ward hustled to realize a reception from Ben Roethlisberger which played no small part in the quarterback’s later dive left for a reaching touchdown which put the Steelers ahead at 7-3.

With the Steelers clinging to a 7-3 lead at the half, Willie Parker took home a 75-yard rushing touchdown (the longest run from scrimmage and the longest rushing touchdown in Super Bowl history) which enabled Ward five minutes and 56 seconds into the fourth to deliver the death blow to the Seahawks with one last end-zone visit. As soon as the offense rushed, Ward, who dashed forward to the center, suddenly headed right and picked up a high pass from Antwaan Randle El and rushed into the end zone, widening the score difference to 21-10. The 43-yard touchdown was the longest pass catch among two team’s wide receivers of game. Having been deprived of the ball at the decisive moment, the Seattle Seahawks failed to turn their dreams of bringing home rings for the franchise into reality.

Hines Ward was born in 1976 to his Korean mother Kim Young-hee and his African-American father Hines Ward Sr., who was in Korea with U.S. forces. The following year, he went to the U.S. and has been living with his mother since age seven. Ward left quite an impression during his early days at Forest Park High School and later at the University of Georgia, where he was a stand-out athlete in all offense positions, quarterback, running back and wide receiver.

i've got nothing but big love and respect for the man. He handled his contract situation perfectly with respect and firmness. He won me over last year when they lost in the afc champ game, when i saw him crying because he couldn't get the BUS to the superbowl. I knew right then what he was all about.

Ya ... I've gotten to respect Hines Ward ...

especially because he's half-Korean ...

What is his Korean name anyway??

Sad truth about Korea is that if Ward wasn't the Super bowl winning MVP and was just walking about around Korea, he'd be given dirty looks and would be treated as trash.

I read an article about him where his mother has said that one of the most heart breaking moments for her son was that during high school when Ward was asked to join a baseball team consisting of many Korean kids, the parents of the other Korean players would take everyone out to dinner after a game, but leave Ward out. Afterwards, she said she told Hines, never to keep his head down because he was better than them.

He's really a great guy though. He speaks well and carries himself well, in addition to being talented. He also does tons of stuff off the field. Overall, one of the more respected athletes with or without and before or after the Super Bowl ring and MVP.

No offense, but what a condescending thing to say, "he speaks well and carries himself well"

What was your initial assumption? That he'd speak with a stutter and carry himself like a retard?

you hit every single point i was about to write.
and yeah i think ALOT of ppl in korea, since there are not that many who ar eaware of the nfl, but now that the steelers/ward have won it, there will be some recognition.

but also take this into consideration..if they didn't really know the nfl before, how would they know who hines ward would be? many would know and hate him, but many would know and love him anyway.

i've always liked him..he doesn't attempt to pull anything tough off..he's a calm guy who leads by example.

and he doesn't have his real name tattooed ove rmicky mouse
it says like
ha in s wuh d or wah d...however he decided to do it..

and another commen.t
the guy means that he's good with his words..careful with them and knows when/how to use them in a correct way...not all loudmouthed like t.o..and im even actaully surprised that the broncos are interested in t.o, although that if they did get t.o, they would become even better then before..strong passing/receiving/running/defense..PERFECT TEAM! lol but t.o is a huge no no whether he's a good player or not. and he carries him well as in he demands respect and against criticsm..you see other players when criticism is thrown at them they go out for like 5 weeks trying to prove the critics wrong

sorry to say this to my atl falcons..but coughvickcough coughpassingamecough...

lol this is about hines..sorry i wrote so much
Too lazy to make another sig. Ill get to it..maybe.

^ Right on the mark. Mixed children in Korean have such a hard time in Korea, unless you're some star, which aren't that many.
This recognition by the Korean press towards Hines is hypocritical imo.

Anyways, congrats to Ward.

Most people in this world cannot speak in public and carry themselves terribly. The percentage is higher for athletes.

If you cannot grasp this reality, I have no idea what to say.

For every Jerome Bettis, Eddie George and Tiki Barber, there are thousands of idiots who either run their mouth constantly, are full of greed or make themselves look like complete fools in interviews.

What part of that is condescending?

I don't get how anybody could take my post as a negative to Hines Ward. Way to assume something that obviously isn't even there. Unless you really believe the majority of people in this world carry themselves as well as he does and speaks in public as well as he does.
