If you take the SAT Reasoning Test more than once, then do colleges average the scores of all the SAT Reasoning Test that you took?

NO!!!

Barely any colleges (if none) EVER average the scores of all the SAT's you've taken.

MOST Colleges look at your SAT in either one of two ways:

-Regardless of when you took it, they take the BEST score from each section.

SO...

If you had
SAT (1st time): M 800, V 600
SAT (2nd time): M 740, V 650
SAT (3rd time): M 770, V 660

THEN

They take the best Math score out of the three (800) and the best Verbal score out of the three (660), so they would see your score as 1460.

This is one way, OR

-They take the highest scores from ONE of the SAT's you took at ONE sitting.

SO...

If you had
SAT (1st time): M 800, V 600 (total 1400)
SAT (2nd time): M 740, V 650 (total 1390)
SAT (3rd time): M 770, V 660 (total 1430)

THEN

They would take the 3rd SAT you took (1430) since it has the highest total score.

Hopefully this clarifies this fact straight to everyone. I've asked numerous people (counselors, teachers, college admissions) regarding how they look at SAT, and NONE of them said that they average your scores.

Have a good day smile.gif

Does this still apply with a combination of the old and the new SAT? Do they take the highest math or reading from the old one if you did better then, or do they disregard the old SAT completely?

For the most part, they regard both the old and new SATs. You should check in with the college that you're interested just in case though.

i thought they take your best score in one SAT sitting. not the best score from each section cuz that would be at a different sitting time???

Most colleges take the best score from each section. Check in with your college to be sure though.

My counselors all said that colleges look at your best SAT sitting, not your best section out of all of the ones you took.

It's all so confusing -___-

It's about half and half. Some colleges take the best of a test from one sitting, or of your math/verbal whatever and combine it. SO BE SURE AND CHECK.
good day.

^When I applied, and this was admittedly years ago, every school I looked at took your highest individual section score, not your highest test from a single sitting. I think a question that somebody here had recently was whether schools would average your scores if you took the test more than three times, and I don't know about that.
