okay... HI. ^^
i currently live in korea.
in the US, i would be a freshman in high school.
i lived in the US until last year, january of 8th grade...
and i am thinking about moving back soon... so that i can go into 9th grade and adjust well enough for sophomore year.
but people around me are worried that going at almost the end of freshman year might not be such a good choice. for college and everything.
so they want me to go NEXT school year and do 9th grade from the beginning (meaning i would go down a year)

i just want to ask, which would be better?

in 8th grade, i was in advanced math (geometry hnrs.) but in korea, we did really easy stuff....
so i would probably be put into all pretty regular classes, right?
so is going down a year necessary?

EDIT ----

okay... so i'm willing/planning to drop down a grade.

but first of all.... will they let me? i know a lot of people who come from korea are put down a grade... but, i've lived in the US practically all my life. so i know english well......... o _ o ?

and.... dropping down a grade is fine, but should i wait until september to go to the US for 9th grade or just go now, do what's left of the 8th grade and THEN move up to high school? there'd be higher chances of getting better classes for high school if i did so, right?

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!! thank you ^-^

I can understand if you transfer schools in the middle of the whole school year (i.e. 9th grade whole school year), wouldn't be good choice. because in high school, they study ONE subect for one year. ..and when you transfer schools, they are not sure which math class you might go..

I would wait...

but would it harm you in any way if you hadn't wait and just came during the second half of the school year to another school?

i think you should start from the beginning just so you know all the basics. yes, it would mean going down a year but it's better than missing all of the essential information. i would recommend you wait until the next school year.

usually 99% of the time the schools put transferred students a grade down. it's better to start your high school year in the beginning of 9th grade if you wanna go to a college in the US. It looks good at your college apps. and if you're worried about getting a grade dropped, don't worry. at least you'll know what you're doing.

I know a girl who's supposed to be a junior, but she's actually a freshman because of birthdays and moving to the states, etc. It's always better to have that extra year. She says even though everyone's so immature and it's kind of awkward at times, she thinks that she made the right choice.

please do not PM me asking me to close threads, etc! i am no longer a mod! ^^ thanks!
