It's not actually the speakers, it's your soundcard.
Open My Computer>View System Information>Hardware>Device Manager
Then look under sound and see if there are any ? marks. Also check if there is a category called Unknown, you may have the wrong drivers for your soundcard.

Yeah, it's your soundcard. Remember that everytime you reformat windows you need to reinstall your drivers for soundcard, usb ports, vga etc. Usually with name brand comps they give you a CD with all the necessary drivers to install, but if not.. Tell us what kind of computer you have. Dell, Compaq, HP, Gateway? Or, if it's a custom built computer open up your case and tell us the name of your MOTHERBOARD, i.e. Abit, Asus, Gigabyte or w/e. then we can help a little bit more.

btw if it's a Brand Name you can google "Dell driver downloads" or "HP driver downloads" and you can find the link to the driver downloads for your make and model computer easily.

But again, if it's a custom made computer please fill us in with the information with the motherboard.

Thank you for the replies, before i go on ahead and do what ya'll suggested i'll answer the question hanpil left

this is a sony viao desktop. dunno about all the model numbers and such (do you need that information, and if you do, how may i find it on the comp?)

and also a problem, i don't ahve any of the disks that came with the computer.

There is no category titled "Unknown" but there is one called "Other Devices" with things such as PCI Modem, USB, unknown device, VGA combatibility with yellow question marks.
but under the category "sound, video, and game controllers"...no question marks.

and if any of the information, links, solutions ya'll give me, ....i hope it's free!

For VAIO® Desktop Computers, the model name is located on the lower right side of the front panel or above the keyboard, depending on the model you purchased (for example, PCV-XXXX... or VGC-XXXX...).

Click this link and plug in the information.
http://esupport.sony.com/perl/select-syste...HOME&PRODTYPE=1

Then click "Get drivers / software for your computer" then click updates and re/install all drivers that have ? marks by them in your device manager.

Hope that helps! smile.gif

That's good that the link aaandy provided to the sony driver download site has a computer model detector, so llee10789, just click that button to detect then find the drivers to install. and even if Device Manager doesnt have any yellow question marks in the Sound devices, still download and install the soundcard driver on the sony page. oh, and you said that there's a yellow question mark next to your USB also? well, once you get the driver for that you can THEN install your lexmark printer since it uses a usb cable to connect to the computer. dont forget to download ALL of the drivers, save the drivers you download on desktop, burn them onto a cd, and keep it for your next reformatting attempt

here are the titles with yellow question marks, could one of ya'll tell me every single drivers i should get? so i don't download the wrong one..or should i just click all of them and download all of them?

--other devices
---> Multimedia Audio Controller
---> PCI Modem
--->Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller
---> Unknown Device
---> Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

thanks!

Instead of clicking updates, choose "original" instead.

---> Multimedia Audio Controller Audio (Sound)
---> PCI Modem Modem
--->Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller Motherboard
---> Unknown Device; where is this listed under in your device manager?
---> Video Controller (VGA Compatible) Video

Install all the drivers above. Then go back to the page and goto the drivers/software page and click everything.

There might be an update for the audio driver.

I mean, i downloaded all of the things on "original", but i only installed the first one, which was the audio one...

i went back and installed all the things,

and now my audio is fine.

i downloaded flightplan the movie, and the sound comes on, but no picture using windows media player. i downloaded DIVX to play the movie, but it says i have to reinstall that, instead of doing that,

is there a way to fix windows media player so it'll play flightplan?

Windows Media Player won't play divx movies unless you have the DIVX codec so your gonna have to reinstall it.

well the person who should be overlooking the thread hasn't taken a look at mine and i'm kind of hoping for a quicker response.

1. I downloaded GSpot
2. Found out i needed XVID
3. Downloaded that
4. Uninstalled DIVX player, reinstalled DIVX player.

5. open DivX player, open FlightPlan, it says i need to reinstall DIVX player.

6. Restarted computer. open DivX player, open FlightPlan, it says i need to reinstall DivX player.

done this two or three times.

what am i doing wrong?

Thanks.

Hmm, I'd just recommend you get rid of DIVX. Install this decoder instead.

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_so...ers/ffdshow.cfm

It automatically runs when necessary and supports subtitles as well.
