right click on the icons to go to their properties/settings. look for the option that says run when windows start.
or...
C:\Documents and Settings > select the user > Start Menu >delete away the shortcuts that u dun want it to run when windows starts

You can go to
Start>Run> Msconfig
Startup tab and take a look at whats on the list. You can remove extra junk by unchecking it. It will ask to restart and when it does, it should exclude it from starting.
The other option is use Hijackthis. Its good for spyware yes, but its also great for clearing out the junk in the startup.
Finally, there are some stubborn programs out there. Quicktime is one of them. You have to right click, go to options and search through the options to not start with windows.
