I don't see why you'd stop listening to bands you liked just because they went mainstream ... if they changed their sounds, then i can understand if you'd stop listening. But if a band keeps their sounds who cares of OCboppers listens to them.

some of them, just because they have all of a sudden got 'popular', have changed their sound.
i'm not saying all of the ones that i like changed but a great amount that have been featured on that show have.

its confusing when you list indie music because you can be getting mixed up with alternative music (which i what i do most of the time ._. )
hurrah for arctic monkeys!

Yes!! Imogene Heap...her vocals on Hide & Seek is soooo chilling!
Anyone into Sigur Ros? An icelandic band with really hypnotic sounds? Hoppipola and Glosoli are so haunting
i agree re imogen heap x]
and i just found sigur ros 2 days ago ! antony (of antony and the johnsons) guest programmed rage and he stuck about 4 of their videos on in a row . i was totally amazed , to be honest . their music is gorgeous - hypnotic is definitely the right word . and their videos ! their videos are some of the best i've ever seen . especially the one for vidrar vel til loftarasa (though itunes called it viorar etc . hrm ?) . god , that video is amazing .
anyways lately i've been listening to these people .. but i don't know if they're indie . i'm really lame like that . so you know , do tell me if i'm being a wannabe indie child when in actual fact am mainstream as is humanly possible
antony and the johnsons
IAMX
robots in disguise
coco rosie
the like (?)
the kills
kings of leon (?)
athlete
bloc party
arctic monkeys
i have very narrow , repetative musical tastes . i just kind of listen to the same people all the time o_o diversity ? never !
there's this girl i know and she's okay .
there's this guy as well , he's much the same .

indie is music released on an independant label, hence the word "indie" being the short term for independant...
its confusing when you list indie music because you can be getting mixed up with alternative music (which i what i do most of the time ._. )
hurrah for arctic monkeys!
ohhhhhh! thanks for the little music education lol. indie... independant. there we go. yepppp arctic monkeys are really good.

they're signed to warner , so they're .. NOT indie ? even though their genre description says indie .
am i getting the hang of this now ? *tears*
there's this girl i know and she's okay .
there's this guy as well , he's much the same .

i figured this out too.. (on my own..seriously..it just came to me while i was sitting in the bus)
anywho... i think indie's bands aren't what the genre is..i think it classifies them by status ..like how far up the fame scale are they--right?
btw---hot hot heat's music is cool-- i like the 'IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE' song..its totally stuck in my head--- the accent just tops it off--

I will always love Bright Eyes & and anything with Jenny Lewis (w/Watson twins> Rilo Kiley)...regardless of their label.
The Perishers rock my boat too.
I wouldn't put the Faint in this category but they're awesome as well.
Death Cab lost their appeal for me after Transatlanticism...nothing after that has caught my eye. My 17 y/o brother whose ipod is saturated with only indie music, seems to one way define a band's level of "sell-outness" based on the venue they play at when they come into town. If its at a stadium concert with thousands of screaming people in seats...yea. He prefers to see bands that have small, intimate settings, standing room only, and so close I can see and feel Conor Oberst's sweat. hehe
Incidently, Death Cab just played with Franz Ferdinand in my city. Heard the concert was ok from a friend that went (most were there for FF rather than DC?) but from her pictures I see they have elaborate props/scenery on stage..wtf?
