What do you mean by improving your reading? 0_o What kinds of problems do people have with reading if the book or whatever's not highly scientific or an older form of English? Well, I always read a lot anyway so I never really had probs with that, and now for school I have pages and pages of reading every night... So yeah, I guess just read as much as possible...?
Hey, look! Finally a different signature after all these years!

What do you mean?
No one can really concentrate on reading unless it's interesting. So for me, I usually force myself to read for a while and then take a break.

Force yourself to read something really difficult, along the lines of "Paradise Lost" and if you really do it, then Victorian novels and such will be a piece of cake to read in comparison.

I don't know, for the SATs, I forced myself to read Victorian novels at such an early age that I actually began to like them.

if it's for SATs, you gotta underline.....seriously, it really helps......that way, you don't have to go search because you would have underlined the parts that you think is important.......also, write a word or two next to each paragraph that will remind you what the paragraph is about.....that way, you'll understand it better

hmm, i can't really help you with this one.

for me, i was an avid reader an quite an early age. my sister is 5 years older than me, and she was reading, uh, very advanced books for her age in elementary school, and when she was through with them, she'd hand them to me so i could read the books. it stayed like that all the way until she graduated from high school.

so basically, after she left for college i stopped reading for fun (sadly), and i ended up reading the school curriculum stuff, which was plenty anyways (about 6 or 7 books... plus considering that i didn't like most of them... haha).

for my SATs i just relied on my prior knowledge from all the books i had read at an earlier age, rather than trying to study vocab the week before the test or whatever.

you're either good at it or not.

take a few practice exams and try to utilize different reading strategies like some people said underlining, circling, and etc. some people resort to quickly reading and scanning for information. it all depends on the person.

i can just read without any of that crap and still pull off a high grade, but it all depends on your commitment to study and your natural abilities.

goodluck.

yeah, you just have to read a lot. i used to hate reading and was consequently an extremely slow reader but once i started reading 3-4 hours a day consistently, i improved and now i can read dense material quite quickly. although for the SATs, you need to be a selective reader. don't try to read everything- just focus on the parts that relate to the question.

What do you like? Just read something that's to your tastes. For me, I got interested in reading because I read fantasy, kiddish books. Like books by Tamora Pierce and Harry Potter. I kind of grew out of that stage into something more realistic but it's coming back. Just read something you like, trust me. School books are freaking boring, I can get through with them but I dislike reading them. Especially when they are in gibberish language like Shakesphere, just GAG. So, just because you don't like school books doesn't mean you hate reading though. Do you mean reading comprehension or just reading itself?
