I just wanted to express my gripes to everyone and complain that my school refuses to weight grades or provide honors classes. Even though I know that colleges deweight and then reweight grades to fit their admissions process, i find it stupid to not weight grades when class rank is important. most of the kids in the top 5% are there because they load up on easy 100's (ie, chorus, band, marching, jazz, etc.) and wow, your gpa really does suffer when u take alot of aps.
AHHH it makes me mad. anyone in the same shoes

My school doesnt weight grades. Technical, college prep, honors, gifted, AP ... all the same thing.
However..the smart people end up on top anyway simply because they're.. smart!!
I think it is more important to learn more than get extremely good grades and not be prepared for college.

i'm not pleased with my state's policy on not weighting grades. likewise, i don't care about having an inflated gpa when it comes to colleges seeing them, because i know they'll readjust it according to their own scales. however, i do care about class rank. i beleive i am just BARELY out of the top decile (as in, less than 5 people away), only because there are kids who take 4 or 5 periods a day (out of a 6 period schedule) taking classes like PE, intro art, etc, while i'm taking 7 IB classes.

Our valecdictorian isn't picked solely based on his or her grades.
Does class rank really matter? Wait... I guess you are right.

i think my school may weight grades, but not a crazy extent like some of the schools around here *cough* public schools *cough*
we get a ".5" GPA boost, but even if i get an "A" I get .029 added to my quarter grade so i don't really get it.
public schools in my city give their brainy kids a .75 boost for "smart math" which sucks because i'm in "smart math" and i'm #11 behind people not in the "smart math" section and they are taking finite next year, which is an easy "A"
aargh
