Depends on what part of the 90's, but Carl Cox was around back then.
Dave Clark
Jeff Mills and the rest of the Detroit scene
Joey Beltram
Richie Hawtin
Sven Vath

Maybe your math teacher had Giorgio Moroder in mind (not 'techno' per se though)

Those guys still produce, except for Moroder to some extent.

Ehh, I forgot about this thread.

Thank you! <3

What do you think of ATB and Ferry Corsten's newest releases?

ATB ft Heather Nova - Renegade (A&T Remix): I really don't know what to think about this track. I am not too fond of that bass/synth (or whatever you want to call it) line in the beginning and the end of the track, and usually I don't like uplifting trance, but I happen to like the middle part. The Ronski Speed Mix doesn't have the melodic part in it at all, so I'm not too fond of that one either. I do like it when they mix the bass line and the melodic part together though...Hm, altogether it's an okay track to me =) ATB's gone for a different style I guess =)

Ferry Corsten - Beautiful
: I love Ferry's style of producing...Although people may mistake his style for similarity, I guess I take it as something of his own. I see this as a big hit commercially (if it isn't already...I don't listen to the radio much)

Oh, and has anyone listened to Tiesto's latest CD? I generally don't like Tiesto, but I gave this one a listen with an open mind, since he was actually going to produce the tracks (with the help of BT of course tongue.gif) Haha anyway, generally, all the tracks were an average of 5/10, with a few exceptions which I'd probably give a 7 or 8...You can see a definite difference from Elements of Life and Just Be...I don't know, I guess this just goes to show that Tiesto himself isn't that great of a producer without BT/Cor Fijneman/etc. I'd give his CD a 5/10.

Oh, and also...Apparently he's going to have his own radio show too called Club Nouveaux =X We'll see how that goes =)

Elements of Life blows, save for like 3 or 4 tracks. Had it the same feel as his live sets in terms of actual track selection and consistency, I'd feel differently.

ATB in general is just above radio friendly 'trance' that is associated w/Cascada and the like. Some of his older stuff is still good, just not the stuff that was on rotation 24/7 (9pm!?)

Armin is touring again, he'll be in Toronto on the 23rd of April.

whoa their a difference between trance and techno...all along i thought they were slightly the same thing.

The boundary between the two genres is fuzzy. So, for example, some dance music could be regarded as a little techno-ish, and also a little trance-y. But there are some overall differences (as I understand them):
  • Techno is usually faster than trance (although, there are examples of fast trance and slow techno).
  • Techno is characterized by an insistent drum beat. The drum machine is the most important element of techno. It's all about intricate and energetic rhythms. At the extreme end, techno can sound like reggaeton and other hard dancehall genres.
  • Trance is characterized by lush, layered melodic lines. The drum beat doesn't have the skull-pounding quality of techno; in fact, sometimes the drum machine is de-emphasized in favor of synthesizers. At the extreme end, trance can have a "new-age" spacey sound.
  • Trance and techno originated in different social scenes. You can imagine certain punk types dancing to techno; those same kids wouldn't be caught dead dancing to trance. Of course, nowadays there are plenty of people who listen to both genres.

AIZA - For something like Darude, go w/Yoji Biomehanika.

Steph, did you check out the rest of Kaskade's work? Chicane's stuff might be too chill. There's always Gabriel & Dresden; some of their tracks might interest you.

I'm terrible w/names though.

kaskade is house... check out other stuff on the Om and Naked Music labels for westcoast style deep house:
Miguel Migs, Jay-J, Chris Lum, Andy Caldwell, Fred Everything, JT Donaldson

or on the funkier side:
Lego, Johnny Fiasco, Mark Grant, Roy Davis Jr, Eastcoast Boogiemen, Lawnchair Generals, Derrick Carter

Who is this scrub that dares to question the av hahah.

Steph, I just threw out random chillout stuff; Heartbeat is an old track that I don't remember too well. But if its anything like the typical Kaskade stuff, ignore my suggestions haha.

Steppin' Out still wins!
