now, i wanna join track this spring, and cross country in the fall.
the only problem is, that my parents aren't for it. im freshman in high school, but i got a lot of really "filled with a lot of hw" like classes.

1. Biology (lots of reading/writing, moderate HW but procrastination is imminent)
2. Social Studies (teacher has a lot of projects, HARD)
3. Geometry (did 8 chapters on in during the summeer b4 i went to hs (didnt finish the whole book, but ppl i sit next 2 r distracting)
4. Health (EASY)

should i join track? my parents fear i won't b able to able to handle the hw i have in these classes? if i should, how can i balance my schedule?

im a pretty "able to work" person. i've been getting good grades and want to keep my A's balanced.

well, since you're a freshman, and not a junior, i think it's ok to join track......all the courses that you have listed are required courses, so it doesn't really make a difference.....it's only when you have those AP classes that you should really reconsider

If you really want to join, then join.

Since you're a freshman, I'd join now before you reach your junior year.
That's when classes turn AP (well, if you're taking it) and when most of the standardize testing comes in.

Plus, it's the last year you have to prepare before you turn in your college applications.

I don't know what your school requires, but mine requires 1.5 years of P.E. (or some sport), so if yours does too, it'll be good to join track since it's required. ^^

I'm a freshmen too, I play volleyball as a fall sport, basketball in the winter, and im planning to join softball in the spring. So far, Im finding plenty of time to get in study and homework time. If it's projects you're worried about, remember, weekends are very very helpful. And plus, coaches can be understanding. I skipped a few practices when i was packed with work, and as long as you tell the coach beforehand, most will let you do it. If your parents don't give in, you might ask them to give you a trial season - freshmen year, it's not gonna get any easier, right? If your grades slip significantly, obviously your parents were right, but if you work hard at both sports and schoolwork, your parents will see it and see you can handle it biggrin.gif Goodluck!

Track takes up hours at a time... especially at my school.
If you can handle it, I'd go for it.

I joined track my freshman year. Practices are two hours. But when it's meet days.. you don't get home until 7 or 8, most of the time. I'm sure that you can do it if you work hard. I still managed to balance it all. Track is a great experience, so try it!

definitely join. track is awesome and it's definitely worth your time. freshman/sophomore year is the easiest years you'll have in hs before you get bogged down by all the ap classes.
