^ Verbal Jint throws disses at lots of people. (DBSK, SNSD, Big Bang, just to name a few)
But then again, it's kind of understandable if you look at it from his perspective. (not the dissing, but the frustration)
Not only does he think they're untalented (which is opinion), but the whole idol-group fervor is polarizing, and therefore decaying, the industry. (which I agree with)

Also, I've never gotten caught up in the Epik High hype so can anyone enlighten me - why do people think they're sell outs?

Double K's voice kind of reminds me of Basick. Yeah? No? I think so.

Dokki released a mixtape solo. I'll PM you asap. I was kind of surprised that not lot of the Movement crew was featured but it's all good in the neighborhood. But uhm, Dokki's got wayyy too many names, nicknames, pseudonyms, etccc whatever. LOL! I noticed the Double K + Dokki-ness everywhere tooo.... Dokki's verse came right after Double K's in Movement4.

Critics say that because they lost touch with their "roots" in their later albums.
For example, here's their first album MV ("I Remember"):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kj2OhW9Czw0
Sick track, with some nice work by Tukutz.

But from their second album onward, they started to try to appeal more to the mass audience,
in both song production and television variety show appearances.
Second album ("Day of Peace"): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpeS8Pr23pc
Third album ("Fly"): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKn18VbnPPc
Fourth album ("Love Love Love"): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obpCDNNXrA8
Fifth album ("One"): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNnkbwFo9hU

Don't get me wrong, those are not bad tracks at all.
It's just that now, instead of having hip-hop fans thumping to the beat at concerts,
they have teenage fan girls screaming and squealing at music shows.
It's hip-pop -- whether you think that's a good thing or not is up to you.

I don't have anything against them; in fact, I would consider myself a fan, seeing as how I've heard every album...
but I do agree that their music doesn't have the underground vibe that it once had (with the exception of a few tracks, like Still Life).
... well, to be honest. I'm not the biggest fan of Tablo.
His rapping isn't bad (and in certain tracks, it's golden), but his attitude has gotten pretty whack.
He claims that music is his one and only, yet he threatened to never make music again when his fifth album didn't sell as well as he had hoped.
But whatever.

And Double K and Basick?
... neh! Basick has more of a deeper voice, and his tone isn't as round as Double K's.

And mark my words! Double K and Dok2. I can smell it coming. ^^
Grip me with your eyes.

Tablo's swagger is not official. He got it all wrong. Tries too hard too IMHO.

Everything, life... basically is a matter of opinion. I really like Verbal Jint as an artist, and despite his disses, respect him for having his own opinion.

At the same time, though... there are plenty of girls screaming for Simon bc he's got that pretty-boy face too, but that doesn't make his music/make him any more "hip-pop". I think, for the most part, people think selling out is equivalent to gaining more fans/attention. As overrated as I think Epik High is, I don't think they've sold out bc they want to reach out to a broader audience, even if it means including GIRLS in their fanbase. I don't know. Not quite making sense and putting my thoughts coherently together here but at the end of the day, DISSES ARE WHACK! haha~ Like, 'you hate untalented people?' Fine. Don't use your talent to talk mini cooper about them. Just seems odd to me. It's kind of like the whole "bombing for peace; john teshing for virginity." Just crazyyy you feel me.

I like VJ, too.
Nice singing, nice flow, nice voice. Not all of his songs are my favorite (that was supposed to be an inside joke for you VJ fans),
but he's definitely got some skill.

And I guess I'll speak for the Epik High "haters", even though I don't really share the same opinions.
(I can just see where they're coming from)
The difference between Simon D. having fan girls and Epik High having them is that Simon D. doesn't go out of his way to get them.
Epik High changed their music to expand to a broader audience... but for what ends? Isn't the ultimate purpose to make music, not to have fans?

And now to argue for the tradition of "dissing". (though once again, I don't completely agree with it)
Dissing from people like Verbal Jint is like a way for artists to say things that others would be afraid to say for themselves.
Although VJ does diss certain artists (especially in his latest album, 누명), the thing he's really frustrated with is the industry itself.
Also, dissing kind of stems from the hip-hop culture, namely rap battles.

Anywho. I really should be reading right now. ;\

Tablo isn't a bad rapper, but I'm really turned off at how fandom shaped Epik High's music...and then there's their fashion. They cater too much to the crowd and tries too much to fit in to the main stream scene. They've totally gone commercial.

But yeah...at their defense, in Korea, if you really want your music to be heard, you gotta go do those shows, ads for different companies, tweak your style...or change your style totally.

That's what I love about underground hip hop, they could freely say what they wanna say without having to worry about PG-13 stuffs. Whatever you feel goes. I do respect that E, the Q, and VJ's personal opinion--everyone has their own opinion about other artists out there--if you got something to say about anyone, I'll listen, but I won't let that affect MY opinion, because it's really NOT fair for the one who's being dissed when they're also doing their best.

I don't think Double K and Basick's voice are alike :X

OMG! Dokki and Double K would be such a good combination. Sexy voices unite ;D

Lame pun, btw. Kidding. Anywhoo.

I get where you coming from. I dig. I think to make music and to have fans is sorta like the chicken and the egg. Fans make the music but music also makes the fans.

As for the catering to girlfans, etc... the same can be said for female artists who sexualized themself. Females can be all "OMG so and so is such a slut" but a male can be like "she's hot!" Male fans alike can hate and go "so and so is a SELL OUT" while the same female fans will exclaim "He's SO hot!" A double standard in a way, for some people?

It's not so much dissing that I don't like, but the labeling. To label it. DISSING. Instead of just saying"SNSD diss or BB diss or Epik High diss," I feel it's more appropriate to say... it's just another song. Another track. A track that, in particular, expresses one's frustration like you said of VJ.

Rap battles includes both sides. That musing would make more sense here perhaps if SNSD rapped and/or fired back at VJ or etc. As far as I'm concerned, they don't rap. It's not a battle... and VJ's one angry man. HAHA jk. Anyhow. I understand it all even if I don't agree with it all.

But I was watching the Movement4 MV again and Eun Ji Won being there... being in Movement. Still makes me wacko.gif I don't have anything against him. It's just shocking, to say the least. For me anyways. How did he get in/volved with Movement anyways??

OMFG, a female who actually understands where I'm coming from and doesn't get angry when I try to put up a thoughtful discussion -- we should get married.

And Eun Ji Won's start in Movement... agh! I know he was talking about it (or actually I think it was Bobby Kim... or someone from Movement) in an interview, but I forgot what he said! I'll try to look it up tomorrow.
EJW's rapping has definitely improved over the years (especially in Movement IV, I actually like his flow), but I still don't see him up there with the greats.
I know it sounds like I'm hating on him, but he's not that bad.

Mkay, I really, REALLY should be reading right now,
but it's exciting to see the Hip-hop thread so alive. ;D

The thing about VJ is, that to me, it seems like he's incredibly self-conscious and believes that he's the mo'john teshing savior to the industry, like Jesus Christ incarnate. He's an absolute elitist, a 1st-class arrogant prick.

Don't get me wrong; he makes good music but he needs to tone down the ego. 누명 sounded like a hitlist.

I love underground hip hop and all but why we gotta poke fun at 1TYM? They make awesome music too. To each his own!! Seriously, I don't get the point of dissing other artists. If one's so talented and amazing, his mind shouldn't be focused on putting down others. I guess some people elevate themselves by mini cooperting on others. Ain't that some mini cooper?

I was just having a little fun with GIUSTO. But yeah, they're all cut from the same cloth. So I don't really mind that people listen to 1TYM.

Huh, I didn't see any Epik High diss.
I guess he could be referring to their "selling out" (which, to be honest, I agree with, but I don't hate them for it, either), but that seems kind of strange since he's collab'ed with them before.. but then again that was back for the fourth album.
Doesn't he have some close ties with Movement?
In fact, doesn't Soul Company as a whole have bonds with Movement?

Epik High is synonymous with sellout within the underground scene. The Quiett used to be fierce a couple of years ago (see Jiggy Fellaz), so I wouldn't doubt that he wouldn't sucker punch Tablo just because he had produced a couple of tracks for him.

We're not going to invite VJ or Tablo to our wedding. HAHA~

I love Bobby Kim's voice and think he should stick to singing as oppose to rapping... but whatever floats his boat. His voice is like butter.

MANG I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN!! As a human being, VJ's pretty... I wouldn't say despicable, but ugh. He's like the Paul Pierce of underground Korean rap. Thinks he's the mini cooper now just because he's accomplished a few things. He really is elitist and while a majority of his songs are good, a handful of them are mostly of him pinkberrying.

Speaking of Jiggy Fellaz, I'm still waiting on their second. Those guys rock. They crack me up too... goofy ass dudes.<3 Like Mack doing the 'Tell Me' dance and all~

His flow isn't quite as good as the others, but his tone is unique and I love his style.
His singing voice is <33

By the by,
thanks for the mixtape. ;D

Anyone got a chance to listen to Maslo's mixtape "Young MAStory"? It is awesome! Soul Connection (NOT Soul Company) is a pretty talented group, definitely underground!

How did you get your hands on that mixtape? Did they ever release the other half of it? [Cuz the one I have is like missing half the tracks on it]. I have the Bootleg Mixtape Vol. 1. I couldn't find it anywhere, just this one site. But I like what I'm hearing.

It is the obligation of the intelligent to oppress the stupid, otherwise they will take over the world.
