penny's album gave me some hope for korean hip hop, especially since i think the Movement artists aren't as good as they used to be. map the soul kinda helped too. either way, i have a lot of catching up on albums to do. i should probably expand to new artists anyway.

Some of them have started to falter, but enough are still going strong. Epik High is getting back to what they're best at, speaking about love, life, and god while not hovering in mainstream limelight. Kebee's new album is going to make me explode, I've been waiting for it for so long...

A bunch of artists still keep my faith up though, The Quiett, Kebee, Minos, Hwana, many others are still going.

^ do you know Minos' discography? I don't have any of his releases. (I've only listened to him through features)
He's got some sick style, though.

Incredible how Dokki still sounds like a prepubescent Filipino kid. And it's been like what, five years since All Black?
After listening to the new Kebee album, I have a whole new appreciation and respect for the The Quiett. Not only is he freakishly consistent, but he just keeps getting better and better (you know... after reading this over again, it kind of sounds contradictory. But what the hell, you guys know what I mean). Moved up in my list.

producer

1. DJ Soulscape
2. Verbal Jint
3. The Quiett
4. J-Win aka Dyno-Soul
5. JA

mc

1. Infinite Flow
2. Kebee
3. 화나
4. GLV
5. Rimi ♥

Oh and DJ Silent left Soul Company.

NEW KEBEE!!!! WOOOOOOO

To the person asking about Minos... Eluphant is the Minos + Kebee collab group (Eluphant Bakery), then I have the Minos + Soulman collab album (Coffee Calls for a Cigarette), and then the Minos solo album (Ugly Talkin').

No Loptimist Asadal? I can't pick top MC's, I go through moods and it usually cycles through Kebee, Hwana, The Quiett, Drunken Tiger, Minos, P-Type, AddSp2ch, and a few others... but...

Producers:

1. The Quiett
2. Loptimist
3. DJ Soulscape
4. Verbal Jint (even if he is a cocky bastard)
5. Primary (because of Primary Skool, Primary Score, and Primary & Mild Beats collab)

heh, I don't think Dokki is ever going to change... so strange he sounds / looks mostly Filipino, given he's half Korean, quarter Filipino, quarter Spanish... But yeah, The Q is always fresh, his style is just so in tune to the style I like... gonna stop talking now before I get fan-girl on him xD

It was a toss up between Loptimist or JA. The thing about Loptimist is that he doesn't have a set sound (trademark), like Soulscape or JA. Like you'll never hear a song and go like "oh this mini cooper sounds like a Loptimist beat" (actually he has a habit of incorporating guitar strings but atleast it's better than the club sound everybody is doing). I think he's kind of acoustically odorless (?wtf if that makes sense). But it's not a bad thing; he's versatile and produces solid beats. Probably why SC is just untouchable right now. They got Loptimist from Big Deal (who sounds nothing like Soul Company) making beats for soulful chilled-out people.

I can't look at P-Type and AddSp2ch the same anymore because San E and Overclass just destoryed them so bad ha.

Makes total sense on Loptimist and his sound... I just look at it as versatility, maybe he just hasn't found his own real trademark yet... but seriously SC is just unstoppable for music with all their producers and lyricists, an amazing blend. I always do like that The Quiett and Loptimist blend actual instrumentals, not just samples or random snippets, but instrumentally sound sets of music to create their beats. Maybe that's just because of years of classical music training, hahaha.

Weird about DJ Silent leaving the company... did he find some other label or something? Oh, and what is this about P-Type and AddSp2ch getting destroyed? I never heard about that, but tbh I haven't been paying too too much attention to the underground lately, just been so busy.

If you don't, I will, haha.

You know, I really like Kero One's recent-ish album (Early Believers).
I don't think his flow is anything special, but I love the beats (funk, jazz, bossa nova, etc.), the vibe, and the lyrics of it.
He doesn't have any tracks talking about how dope he is or whatever.
And I love the featured singers, especially Ben Westbeech and Tuomo.

Huge fan of Kero One as well, and all the artists he signs on to Plug Label, very classy group. Windmills was an amazing album, I actually haven't purchased Early Believers yet, got sidetracked by Hwana and Kebee albums... will definitely have to now =D

^I grew up listening to Master Plan stuff so I didn't really care for DT. I loved CB Mass back then though. If you want to get back into the scene or listen to some of the new stuff, check out URD/JA/Gehrith Isle basically everything from SALON 01 (but they're kind of avant garde, so if you're more into traditional just pass). SC is good listening too. Hip hop here has come a long way since Honey Family and DT.

Anyways, I got J A Z's (a.k.a. Jazzy Ivy a.k.a Superman Ivy a.k.a 각나그네) J Z X and the production is top notch. I didn't get it because it was him (I think he's pretty mediocre actually), but because JA and Soulscape were featured as producers. I really want an instrumental version.

I think his music direction changed. His recent stuff was kind of out there. The destoryed thing was just Swings and San E having too much free time.

yeah, i used to listen to some of MP. I remember walking by their club every night. CB Mass and now Dynamic Duo I still like (길을 막지마 is one of my favorite tracks). Although, of late DD has been going the way of Epik High (love songs etc). Speaking of Epik, their latest album has got me listening to them again. Not as many love songs, no more electronica, just some good tracks.

But having grown up listening to DT, I am still partial to them. I like JK, but feel that he's better as a duo. So I was hoping Shine and him would make up and reunite.

Hip-hop, whether Korean or American, just isn't the same for me. I think it's because I'm getting older and because some of the new stuff is just trash.

was just looking around youtube for stuff, found this.
Youtube of DJ James Jhig, DJ Wreckx, Gorilla Crew, Joosuc, Digiri, Honey Family, Gaeko, CB Mass, Dynamic Duo, Tiger JK, Drunken Tiger, L.E.O, Ill Skillz, IIMC, Hur In Chang, X-Teen, Hoony Hoon, Uhm Jung Hwa, Yoon Hee Jung 3534, Typhoon, Lee Ha Neul, DJ DOC, Day-One from back in the day.

It's my first post here, i've lurked around the k-hip hop threads and i'm always amaze by the knowledge flowin' around.
So if you have some info about Soul Connection, Rapsody is just too dope. If anyone have so more SC tracks/albums/mixtapes be charitable. Also the new Kebee awesome.

Hey everyone! This is my first time in this thread. I just started getting into rap and hip hop from Asia and it's really good. I have a question. While I was listening to Sniper Sound's "One Nation" album (which I think the album is great), I started looking up the artists on the album. There is one artist I can't seem to find anything on: 취랩. He's really good and for some reason, I would like to know more about him (like official site, music, etc.) If someone could help me out. that would be great. By the way, how is his name pronounced?

The "One Nation" pair of albums are really sub-standard for the underground actually. Production is mediocre on about half the tracks, and MC Sniper got super mainstream on those... if you liked those, wait until you really get into the underground, most of it just blows those songs out of the water.

Not sure about 취랩 though... a lot of the underground artists have their cy site and not much else, a little difficult to find them otherwise.
