High schoolers, who had their own facebook before, can now add as friends and write on the walls of us college people...my beautiful wall is being filled with scribbles from little kids in my old high school sad.gif why facebook! why!

Official Announcement:

It has been a good school year for us. In September, we added more than 1,000 colleges and 20,000 high schools to Facebook. After that, Facebook became the seventh most visited site on the Internet. A couple of months later, we added photos. Now, we get about 1.5 million new photos each day.

Starting today, we are going to let people in college and high school be friends. We decided to do this because so many people requested it, and we think it will help people keep up with more of their friends.

So now, if you're in college and you do a global search for someone in high school, that person will show up in the search results and you will be able to add them as a friend. You can still only see someone's profile if they are your friend or at your school, but now you can see the profiles of your friends in high school too.

Over the next couple of months we are going to make it easier to find and keep up with friends, even after they graduate. Stay tuned.

Mark

It isn't such a big deal. While it may be annoying to you, I'm sure it is a great addition for many others.

Besides, don't you have to be friends for someone to post on your wall?

haha.. college people are so immature..at least here. smile.gif

No, I don't mean it -- but I hope you get the subliminal message.
I dont have a facebook of my own but I understand why some college students would feel that way. However a lot of college students aren't very mature themselves (obviously) so the addition of high school students shouldnt be much of a bother. It used to be a college thing to have a facebook, and now it isnt. You all (generally speaking to college students) may be in college, but that doesn't mean that you're so much older, wiser and "better." I think I've seen that a lot among college people, especially from observing what happened to my sister once she went off to college. She became the stereotypical annoying college kid.

My thoughts exactly... can't you choose not to add them as friends so they can't post on your wall?

One of my teachers told us that employers look at your facebook... and even some professors first look up your facebook before writing recommendations! It was prety shocking, to me at least. Not exactly relating to the topic of this thread, but I thought I'd share it anyway. tongue.gif

it sucks having to share with highschoolers becaue in other forums they are all so immature (majority of them neways) I totally AGREE with you on this... facebook is degrading itself... even if a highschool friend that you added, they can still spam.. it's annoying... i hope this change won't happen..

I was curious about that so I looked it up but I didn't see any high schools on the list though o.O
When I tried to look for it in global search, it just gives me the options to find alums of the high schools..

You have to do a global search..type a person you know in high school and now when you search for it you'll be able to add them as friends

I love some of the new groups popping up as a result of this..such as "I Finally Gave In And Accepted High School Friend Requests Because I Am Just A Nice Person" haha...

i heard it is quite easy to get a high school facebook account.
you can get an account either by high school email or invite. but what happens when invites are haplessly given? Weird ppl inviting weird ppl who invite even more weird ppl. i hope the creator of facebook realizes how this can be an outlet for perverts to target high schoolers now. or freaky college guys who want an easy lay from a young high school girl and girls who want to be laid by a college guy.

And now that employers look at facebook as a screening process...who knows..maybe colleges will look at the high school facebook to screen out applicants. and high schoolers aren't hte most circumspect of people in regards to how much info to give out and what should not be put on the web [for example, i had put up an embarrassingly angry essay on a forum once with my name tagged on it...and now whenever i google myself, one of the few results that come up is that essay!]

This just changes Facebook into something like Myspace. Almost anyone can have it and whatnot.

Yeah, it doesn't feel special anymore to have a facebook. I mean, its great that people get to connect with high school friends, but the whole "college-only" feeling isn't there anymore.

BTW, I thought this might be interesting:

Employers and Cops have Facebook now

So be careful!

its not like your walls are for profound discussions
im pretty sure its half 'yo hows it going' or 'happy birthday' or 'hey i saw you last night when we were trashed'

if you dont like high school kids dont accept them as friends
if you dont like wall messages then delete

common now

Yeah I'm annoyed with it now too. I basically used Facebook just to keep track of all my friends that went college elsewhere. I liked it because unlike Xanga and Myspace, Facebook was something for older people or exclusive. Now that highschoolers are let in I'm getting all of these messages from highschoolers that are just "collecting" college kids to show off to their friends how many "college buddies" they have. Super stupid. I thought I left that all that nonsense behind.
