ive been going on the elliptical for an hour every other day.. it sure is a work out but i dont know if it helps you lose much weight? anyone have experience? and ive also been feeling pain in my arm.. maybe from the excessive/constant pulling movement while on the elliptical?

does your elliptical machine have a calorie counter? if you go on for about an hour, i think that would be equivalent to about 350 calories. so yea that is an awesome workout... but personally i didn't really like the elliptical machine cuz i feel like it isn't as tense as running, so recently i have switched to the treadmill. running on the treadmill helps you lose fat overall while the elliptical machine is more aimed towards toning up your butt and legs.

how intense should your exercise routine be when it's that time of the month? are you still allowed to do moderately intense cardio?

do you feel alot of cramps "when it's that time of the month?".. a friend of mine told me thatz bcuz your not really fit and your blood isn't really flowing well? crazy.gif blush.gif so i still try my best to go workout despite the fact that i am on my period... but i kinda lower the intensity... like i usually run for 2 miles on the treadmill, on those days i walk 2 miles... it may take longer, but you burn the same amount of calories biggrin.gif

YAY... we are finally moving along to page 61!!! AJA AJA FIGHTING everyone... summer is almost over!! phew.gif

I've lost about 7 lbs this summer. I know it isn't too much, but I'm proud. (:
From 112 to 105-- trying to cut it down just a tad bit more, but I think this is as much as I can go for a while.

Now to give you some background information: I'm 4'11" and soon to be 16 years old. My parents aren't the kind to tell their children to stop eating, and they feed us regularly. We eat fast food, junk food, rice (and lots of it). If I was to suddenly eat less, they'd most likely question me and scold me for trying to diet.

I had gone down to about 110 after catching the stomach flu which had me lose my appetite-- resulting in smaller meals already. That helped; not telling anyone to get sick here on purpose, now.

I didn't do any intense working out. And jogging gets very boring and exhausting. So what I did, as silly as it sounds, moved around a lot. And this isn't walking around. This is like spastic movements to keep my body working. I'm watching TV and I get up and jump around and rotate my arms and kick the air.

.. Yeah. But don't think I'm too much of a freak.

But on a more serious note, I did do a few leg lifts and push-ups/crunches every other day & stretched whenever I could.

Then, meals. For the most part, I eat whatever I want. I rarely rarely drink juice or soda & it's always water. It helps a lot. Then I eat a large breakfast, good-sized lunch, and a smaller dinner. Nothing after. I've found that the only way I can eat a small dinner is eat something inbetween lunch and dinner. I stay away from as much junk food as I can now, and manage a fruit or something healthier so by the time dinner rolls around, I'm not as hungry.

That's all for now. I'm still in the process of losing some more (:

DON'T LOSE MOTIVATION!!!! i am like that too but lately i have been interchanging btw running and walking... so i run 2 minutes and then walk for 2... and so on.... and gradually increase the intensity...

i think this has been my healthiest summer.
i cut down on all fast foods.. except i still eat pizza like once a month. i barely eat the icecream anymore (i used to eat it everyyyy single day)

at the beginning of the summer, i wanted to gain muscle cause i was already at a good weight. i was 91lbs and i am 5'0. I gained muscle weight by joining the gym and doing swimming so i was at 95 lbs...

but i started doing Ock Ju Hyuns yoga tape two times a day ( i started 2 1/2 weeks ago) in addition to going to the gym five times a week. I am at 89lbs. I still have all my muscle that i gained but the yoga helped slim me down!

so this is the end of my summer 2006, back to school next week.
good luck to everyone <33

i'm still going to stay in the gym and continue doing yoga! FIGHTING everyone <333333

april loves black coffee

going on the cycling machine makes me sweat too, when i set it to more pressure

Yeah. The elliptical is actually my favorite and I usually do about two miles/20 minutes [which my trainer said was enough] and I usally burn around 220 calories or more.

How to stop the food craving after you work out? After I have a good workout... I get REALLY hungry -- like I want to eat a whole cow.

If I could limit that craving it would help a lot. Because it leads me to overeat and if I don't overeat my body feels really sluggish and I feel crappy and it bugs me.

yea i also get hungary after i work out... but the truth is, the hunger WILL go away if you managed to not eat anything... wut i do is i drink LOTS of water ... and i will eat something healthy like a fruit or something... but if you REALLY can't control yourself, at least you should know that your metabolism is faster after you workout....

GOOD LUCK.... biggrin.gif

About ellipticals --> Today I was working out on one.

I went to the gym and started straight up on it; level 12 - going about 85 rpm for 30 minutes.

It said I burnt about 510 calories. I was at the gym for 60 minutes doing cardiovascular stuff.

I was curious about something... it doesn't seem that much. I burn about ~1000 calories at the gym according to the machines but I eat about 1500 calories a day. Will I lose weight?

I don't know... I can go on ellipticals for 30-45 minutes with no problems and not be really tired and super winded. But when I'm jogging on a track I get really tired after jogging 5-6 laps. My mouth gets super dry and I have a lot of mucus building up, and my body is hurting. Anyone the same?

yeah its much different when you actually run on a real track..
its harder so you burn more calories than running on a treadmill, im pretty sure?
i thought it was just me but i dont think ellipticals are that hard either,
so i always subtract a 100-200 calories from what the machines say..

Ever since I started to actually workout, I found that my period seemed to only last for two days.

My workout plan?
I get up at 8:30. I jog for two hours. I go at a moderate or slow pace. But I figured since I'm going for two hours, it'll make up for it.
I get back home at 10 or so.
I do my 'muscular endurance'. This meaning pushups, sit ups. I use an exercise ball every other day. There's various workouts involving those, its just a matter of finding them.
*sit ups..35 a set. Two sets.
*pushups..I can't do a pushup to save my life, so I try to do 10 at least =)
After that I move on to weights. I use 3 pounds and one set is about 35.
That normally last for 30 minutes.

My backup plan when I don't get a chance to run?
I just start on my pushup and sit ups and weights. At least then I feel good about myself for doing something.

The reason I don't eat before I run, is because when you eat, the glycogen that you get from the food gets burned first, before your stored fat. At least this way if you don't eat, your body will use your stored fat or carbs first.

Of course with a workout plan comes a proper diet.
Usually I have a bowl of cereal with skim milk.
Lunch, normally anything I'm craving for. Rice and one egg, instant noodles. Key here is portion. I allow myself to eat anything as long as its in small portion.
Dinner, since I work at night, I don't have much chance to eat dinner at a proper time. So when I get home its normally whatever my parents had. Again, small portions.
Snack, a fruit.

(A trick I usually use to make sure that I'm eating small portions, as dumb as this may sound, is I eat from a bowl. Your eyes tend to play a trick on you. If you use a big plate, then you tend to fill it up even more, and you'll end up with too many portions. With using something small, you fill it up right away with just the right amount. And if your parents ask you why your eating from a bowl, say its easier to clean =P)

I completely stay away from pop or any sugary treats. I'm not one to count calories or worry how many grams of fat there are in a certain food. Here's the thing, even if the label says 'low fat', watch out for that sugar content. If its not the fat that gets you, it'll be the sugar. Sugar is just as bad as fat. I'm not saying stay away from it all, just 'treat' yourself with it. That's what it is ..a "treat".

For one day of the month, give yourself a treat. This doesn't mean one day pig out. It means eat a dessert of your own choice. Don't worry about how much fat or sugar it has or the toll its going to have on your 'thighs'. Just one day of the month. At least then you satisfy your craving.

Replace your pop with water or orange juice. You have to watch for the names that they have for drinks. Try to avoid anything that says 'cocktail' thats not real juice, its loaded with sugar.

Again, eat whatever it is you want, just make sure its in small portions.

So far 5 pounds, then again I've only been at it for a month or two. tongue.gif If its not the acutal diet thats getting to me, its the stress. That's for sure. For some people stress tends to make them gain weight. But for me its making me lose weight. Its different for people I guess

At first I was starting to gain weight, but when I did my measurements, I saw that I've decreased at least two or three inches in my arms, legs (thighs and calves) and waist. I talked to my fitness teacher about it and he told me that I was gaining muslce at the same time. So don't worry if you do gain weight, remember that muscle weighs more than fat^_^

Eh, no way can you burn 1k calories in that sort of workout. That calorie counter is just a gimmick. You probably get tired fast because outside is not as nice as inside, but just work up to it. I was jogging 2 miles easily a day and now I got back to the track finding that I can jog .75 miles without a break =/.
