hello...i also tried searching for lee-kai wang thru google..

this came here
http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:A7H1BpX...h&ct=clnk&cd=14

what's this about??? can anyone please explain..coz its kinda weird...

lee-kai wang analysis letter

My parents are extremely different from one another, but they do share many similarvalues. After considering it for a while, I believe they would most object to my marryinganother man.
Both of my parents are around 60 years old. My father is rather well educated; hereceived his M.D. at National Taiwan University and has been a practicing pediatricneurologist for 30 years. My mother manages my brother's music career and has areputation for not giving in to pressure. She knows what she wants and won't let anyonepush her around.
In this particular aspect my parents are rather different. In the business world, mymother won't let anyone get in her way. However, at home she would allow me to domostly what I want. My father, on the other hand, rarely voices his opinions on officepolitics, but when it comes to what goes on in his own house, he won't let things get out ofhand.
Both of my parents are very prejudiced against homosexuals. (My father isprejudiced against a number of groups.) Their upbringings are certainly large factors in this, but each of them has opinions on the topic that extend into their professional lives as well. For example, the newspapers in Taiwan (whose entertainment sections are pretty much theequivalent of tabloids in the U.S.) occasionally claim that my brother is gay. (They alsoperiodically announce that he's impregnated one or another female star.) This is somethingthat my mom sees as dangerous to my brother's career, and this places homosexuals in anegative light. Likewise, my father blames gays for some major medical problems, for example AIDS. This is more likely a symptom than a cause of prejudice against gays, ofcourse, and it is backed in evidence as well. His attitude, however, is in my opinion unreasonable.
The closest gay person to my life when I was growing up was my piano teacher. Heand his partner both taught piano lessons out of the same house. The fact that they weregay was something I realized much later than all of my fellow students, because my parentsnever talked to me about it. I think they would have much preferred it if I didn't know theywere homosexuals or even, at that point in my life, didn't know what homosexuals were. And I don't think I did until around seventh grade, when I met my first gay friend. Now I have many friends who are gay, but I am often careful about when I tell myparents that they are. In particular my mother will be less receptive to one of my friends ifshe knows he is gay (I've only experienced this with male friends). Going back to my pianoteacher, who was male, I recall that after I knew he was gay she would caution me aboutletting him get too close to me physically. I think she's somehow worried that I'll beconverted by proximity. In fact, all of my parents' major concerns are about what happens to my brothers orme. What they care most about in life is without a doubt our family. More than anythingelse they want their children to be happy. I happen to care about family equally highly, having absorbed those values from their teaching, so if I wanted to convince them to let memarry a man I'd have to argue that it would not be detrimental to our family. The last major objections that my mother would have are how the community towhich she belongs would regard her if she had a gay son and how the public would view mybrother if I were gay

Dear Mom and Dad,

There's something that's been on my mind a lot lately that I haven't talked to youabout, and I feel I should bring it up now instead of waiting. I've met someone recently whohas begun to play a large role in my life. We've been seeing each other for a couple ofmonths now, and I know he's someone really special. Now I know that you two aren't thebiggest fans of homosexuality, but I think it's time that I came out to you.
I don't want this to become an issue of sexuality. In my eyes, this has nothing to dowith being straight or being gay. All I know is that Steve is a wonderful man and that wemake each other happy. He's someone I can completely trust and I'm completelycomfortable sharing everything with, and I know he won't let me down because he feels thesame way I do.
Mom is always worried that other people take advantage of me, and I'm sure willcome up now, but as soon as you meet him you'll know that he's a thoroughly honest andtrustworthy human being. I've been in serious relationships before, as you know, and I canhonestly say that I've never felt the way I do with him. It just feels so right.
When I hear the two of you talk about your marriage and the start of your romance,I don't need to pay attention to your words to understand how you feel about each other. Ican see it in your eyes and your body language and hear it in the sound of your voice.Because of this I believe that even if you're not sure now, when we talk about this in person you will understand how I feel.
Steve teaches one of my classes, a writing class called "Rhetoric". He's a really greatteacher; I've already learned so much from him in the past couple of months. He's a brilliantwriter and he serves at MIT as the Director of the Writing Center, which is a prettyimportant job, considering that he is responsible for helping out every MIT student whorequests help with his or her writing. Steve has a really big heart and is always helpingothers. You'll really like him when you meet him.
I'm going to tell Leo and Leehom about this very soon. I just wanted you to knowfirst. Steve is going to be important to me for a long time, so I know he will play a role inour family as well. Again, I really want you to meet him as soon as possible, since I knowthat once you do you will learn to appreciate him just as I have.

love lee-kai

Leekai is GAY?

That's ironic. The media alway says that Leehom is gay (and then says he's with every girl he's seen with..hmmm), but I guess they've been looking at the wrong brother?

Is this is like a real letter or is it something for a drama class or something?

I found this about Leekai Wang:

It's his applicaton to Harvard. I'm not sure if he got in, but he currently goes to MIT.

My name is Lee-kai Matthew Wang, and I am an academic. To someone who doesn’t know me, that may be all I am: a name, an entry on the honor roll, or a code number on an application. But being reduced to a statistic does justice to no one, and I am no exception. I have my own merits, my own ideals, and my own quirks that keep me from blending into the background. I refuse to be tossed nonchalantly into some arbitrary category like mail sorted by a disinterested laborer.

My entire life I have striven to learn as much as I could, continuously thirsting for more. I am interested in everything, being fortunate enough to have had as mentors two older brothers, Lee-hom, 26, and Leo, 28. Lee-hom, a musician, inspired my love of music. Before he left home for college, he used to play his guitar and sing for me, instilling in me a deep appreciation for the art. I started playing the violin when I was 5, and I have studied piano since I was six. I also play the drums and love singing. I have played drums and piano in jazz band and wind ensemble, and I have sung and danced in my school's show choir as well as productions of "South Pacific,” "Bye Bye Birdie", "West Side Story," and "Carousel." I have studied piano for over eleven years and play drums in a band called Sploosh.

Leo, my eldest brother, is responsible for my more scholarly proclivities. He is currently studying for his M.D./Ph.D. in immunology. His breadth and depth of knowledge have always impressed everyone in my family, and I have always admired him, hoping that one day my own erudition might rival his. My academic achievements began with language. I learned my alphabet at 18 months, and since then I have picked up French, Spanish, and Latin, in addition to Chinese and English. I have also excelled in mathematics from an early age, earning the second highest math score in New York State on the Johns Hopkins University Talent Search in seventh grade. I have been the captain of my school’s math team since freshman year and now I am coaching the MathCounts team at the middle school. Having actively participated in many mathematical competitions, last year I became the only student from my school ever to qualify to take the USA Mathematical Olympiad. I was also the First Vice-President of the New York State Junior Classical League, and I have won over forty awards at regional Latin competitions, including the "Mens sana in corpore san" award for highest overall achievement at the 2001 New York State Latin Convention.

I am now applying by early application to Harvard College. I plan to study biochemistry because I want to do cancer research. So many people I love have suffered from cancer in the past few years and at this point I want to offer whatever I can to the fight against it. I also intend to teach, for nothing is more valuable than to have the opportunity to impart unto others one’s own knowledge. Besides my academic pursuits I plan to play on the frisbee team as well as fence.

Great, you say, so you’re at least as talented as the next applicant whose self-gratifying essay I have to read. But I persist: I am different. What sets me apart from other students?

I am unique because I do not allow myself to be inhibited by regulation. Without doubt rules are necessary, but I am a firm believer that once the rules are mastered and their motives understood it is often proficuous to break them. I am in constant pursuit of mastery over the rules; what is more, I am not afraid to leave them behind.

When the words of prose become unfettered we call it poetry; when we free language of mechanical concerns we achieve fluency. When the notes of a musical composition have been learned we forsake accuracy in favor of expression. It is my goal to attain that level of understanding in everything I do. This is what sets me apart: the quest for intellectual freedom from pedantry.

National Merit Essay:
No one has had a profounder influence on my personal development than my two older brothers. They have always taken care of me and looked after me, and when I need advice, they're always the ones I turn to first. Growing up, I worshiped them, for they were the ones who watched television with me, who played games with me, and who guided my shaky steps through toddlerhood.

Moreover, my interests have been shaped by those of my brothers. For example, I have come to share my second brother's passion for music. Before he left home for college, he used to play his guitar and sing for me, instilling me a deep appreciation for the art. I love to sing, and I play the drums and the piano, which I have studied for eleven years. In addition, I have adopted my eldest brother's love of language. He is the most intellectual member of the family; his breadth and depth of knowledge have always impressed everyone. It is my perennial aspiration that one day my own erudition might rival his.

I recall the first time that my second brother went to college and left me at home brotherless. I cried for days; the only people I could think of to whom I might turn for comfort were they. That is still true: whenever I am troubled I know I can call them, whether I desire to reason out my problems or simply to rant. However, I hardly ever see either of them these days; my second brother has become a popular musician in Asia and the eldest is studying in another state for his M.D/Ph.D in immunology. As for me, I am about to emerge from the familiar territory of my home and begin the next stage of my life. Once more I will need the guidance of my brothers, but soon will be time for me to make my own path.

aww.. it was his birthday? I missed it!
He's going to have a new album on Dec.30th? or something.. I hope it's as good as his recent one!
I have a question.. I bought the Heroes of the Earth with the dvd for $19 and it looks authentic but it's not as long as the shangrila dvd+cd one:
IPB Image
Is it real? It looks book-sized.
Anyways, I love it because it also has his concert pictures inside. I really can't wait for his new cd!
I wish he has another concert near California soon!
Does he hang out in Taiwan or New York more?
OH YEA. P.S. I love his laugh.. It's like a low manly sexy laugh. AHH Right?!

It should be real, Yesasia is pretty legit, I get most of my leehom albums from that site.

HAha, his laugh is funny. He has different laughs, one of his laughs is a cute chuckle and then he has a laugh that sounds like he's choking.

Anyway, I hope he has another concert, too!! He's having one in Shangai on 8/12. He's a guest at Westlife's 6/3 concert.

He spends most of his time in Taiwan and traveling, he travels on an average of 300 days of the year. But on his downtown, when he's producing his album he lives in New York. usually this is either during summer or a few months before he releases his album.

He's having one either at the end of the year or next year, he usually releases and album a year. But he's been extremely busy this year with concerts and stuff so I'm not sure if he's had enough time to write all the songs he wnats to.

I watched the You're beautiful video.. wow That was nice! I wish he recorded it or something.
That guy singing along.. kinda hid his voice. When my friend told me she got hired to dance in one of an Asian guy's videos, I was like ok.. that's nice. Later, I found out it was Wang Lee Hom !! I am so pissed of at myself.. I had a chance to get his autograph but I missed it.
Singerchick: I can't believe you got so close to him. I would've been extremely starstrucked. I even get all excited when I see him on TV tongue.gif

I love Wang Lee Hom because he's talented, smart, and good looking. Actually it's so amazing that he's entire family is so smart. I think he's older brother went to Havard Medical School and now his younger brother is at MIT. The only thing I don't like about him is he when he raps or tries to act very cool and gangster like. When he speaks in English he doesn't sound as smart as I know he is. I hope he will be able to have a very long career and continue to write great songs.

Wow your friend was one of his hired dancers?

Actually I think it depends on the situation. Usually he sounds more "cute" than he does smart on talk shows and comes off a bit clueless haha. But then he tends to use "simpler" language when he speaks in English in asian countries such as Thailand because it's not like they are fluent.

I'm not sure which undergrad school he went too, but he was definitely really smart. Either Harvard or Yale or something along those lines. But I know he got his Ph.D at John Hopkins.

I'm so pissed off at myself because my dad said that WLH was on TV singing You're beautiful on Saturday and I missed it!!
Oh yea, I found another you tube part of you're beautiful. Anyone know how to dl it onto my comp?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsachQ_AK14
I sound like that girl =P
Yea, my friend is a hip hop dancer and I think it's for one of the videos.. I need to ask her which one. I didn't want to ask anymore infor because I'll regret not like.. asking more about that asian artist she danced for sleep.gif.
I think the image for guys is to talk more gangster like. I don't know? Because Brian speaks very gangster-like and i think he's smarter than that. Of course WLH is smarter than that but you wouldn't want him talking all nerdy right? I wouldn't =P because then I wouldn't know what he's talking about.

Wait...what show was that on? I love his rendition of Your Beautiful, because i always thought James blunt had a funny voice.

But I really like his english performances, especially when he performs oldies such as "Imagine" and "Pianoman"

Leehom Sheds Tears

Leehom’s promotion period has just ended. When Leehom arrived back in Taiwan yesterday, he was visibly jetlagged. Some reporters described him as a “panda” because he had visible eye bags and fatigue on his face. However, just after arriving, Leehom quickly rushed to a FOSSIL press conference in some clothes his fans had given him.

Afterwards, Leehom made an unusual stop at the hospital. Why the hospital? Well, he had a 7-year old fan named Xiang Xiang who was suffering from leukemia in the hospital. Leehom was worried and went by to pay a visit. Leehom not only played with the boy and sang songs with him but he also brought a big heap of toys for Xiang Xiang. Leehom made Xiang Xiang promise that he would stay strong while waiting for a marrow transplant. “I hope you recover as soon as possible, because once you get better we can hang out, and we can play baseball together.” Just before Leehom left, Leehom gave the little boy a hug. The boy was smiling from ear to ear, but under Leehom’s cap, reporters could see that Leehom’s eyes were welling up with tears. It was hard even for bystanders not to be touched by this scene. Such a young child in such a dilemma, yet still so brave.

Leehom is extremely fond of kids. Leehom is very down to earth so even with kids he has no air of arrogance. Instead he plays with little kids just as he would his own little brother. In fact, Leehom who is 9 years older than his little brother, used to babysit him and did all the chores including changing his little brother's diapers and teaching his little brother math with cheerios. Because of these qualities Xiao S joked that Leehom would make a good pre-school teacher.

This past almost 6 months Leehom has flown between California, Las Vegas, New York, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Osaka, Toyko, Nagoya, Singapore, Cheng Du, Malaysia, and Thailand. Leehom has not had a vacation for 6 years (since 2000), and a vacation doesn't seem to be in his schedule. He has to work on his next album along with concerts in Mainland China, Singapore, and North America.

Leehom is guest at Westlife Concert.

The UK's hottest boyband is making an appearance in Shanghai. They will hold their concert there on 6/3. They invited famous Taiwanese producer, Alexander Wang Leehom, as their guest. Leehom will sing "WEi Yi," he will also perform "You Raise Me Up, with the group.

if i remember correctly it was from a singing competition. he was over for vacation that time sitting with his mum and grandma when he noticed a poster and decided to join for fun. he then won and got signed but he treated it as a summer job but then later he just got popular and he continued to be a singer instead of a doctor

I already can't wait for Leehom's next album. biggrin.gif Especially since he's not doing anymore chinked-out albums anymore. I mean, I like his chinked-out albums but I want to hear what he's going to do next. w00t.gif

Does anyone know when his concert DVD is coming out? Someone said that it's definately coming out but when? Also, is he coming to concert in the U.S. again? I heard he's on a world tour now and that one of his concerts is going to be in the U.S. Anyone know? Thanks!

Do you guys want a clip of Xiao Zhu prank calling Leehom? I'll upload it for you guys later 'cause it's hilarious and you get to hear Leehom's sexy sleepy-just-woke-up voice. biggrin.gif

No originally Leehom was going to be a doctor because of family pressure since his older brother and father were both doctors. He didn't actually wnat to become a doctor. He had been planning to attend either Princeton or Yale, however at the last minute he decided that his true passion was in music. Therefore he decided to go to Williams instead and he majored in music composition and minored in asian studies. This is also when he first started to learn Chinese. So even before he was "discovered" Leehom had already made up his mind. He wanted to be a composer. Becoming a singer didn't change anything.

Leehom went to Taiwan during the summer right before attending Williams. He entered a singing competition for fun and during the semi-finals companies wanted to sign him. Leehom thought of it as a summer job and agreed. When September came around he went back to the States and started his freshman year of college at Williams. He released his first album when he was 19, during his sophomore year in College. He juggled a normal college life and stardom in Asia. So basically he went to school in America and during the summer and all his vacations he couldn't hang out with his fans or anything, instead he had to go back to Asia to work. so Leehom was basically working all year long, attending school and during summer in asia to promote and work on his albums. He continued this until he graduated from Williams. Amazingly he was still able to graduate with honors. His honors thesis was a self-produced,writtern,composed, and arranged 570+ page broadway play. From then on he continued his graduate education at Berkelee School of Music where he got his masters, while once again having to go back to Taiwan/Asia during his vacations.

He graduated from Berkelee in 2000/2001.

Chinese Americans are proud to call Wang Leehom one of their own. Growing up as an ABC in Rochester, New York, Leehom faced many of the same dilemmas that Asian-Americans face each day, from discrimination and prejudice, to the bowl haircut, to the SATs, to fights, to prom.

At a young age, Leehom was a music lover. At 3, after seeing his brother play the violin, he begged his parents to allow him to play the violin. They refused because of his age, young Leehom was heartbroken. To lift his spirits, his mother made him a violin out of a cereal box, for the next few years Leehom walked around the house playing with cereal box. At the age of 6 Leehom was given his first violin lessons at the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester. Violin soon became his passion, and at 13 he became the youngest violinist of the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Leehom was professionally trained on the violin, but as he continued to advance his music erudition, he began a self-instructing regimen. He self-taught himself the drum, the acoustic guitar, and the electric guitar while in a rock band in Junior High. At the age of 18, Leehom picked up an interest for the piano. Having prior knowledge with music from violin, Leehom self-taught himself how to play both the piano and the xylophone. Since then Leehom has picked up numerous other instruments; in 2004 Leehom started self-teaching himself the er-hu.

Leehom had double the course load of other children his age because he attended two schools. On one hand he had his normal academic curriculum, however after school he continued his studies at Eastman School of Music. Despite being overwhelmed Leehom’s love for music helped him persevere. He continued to build on his appreciation for his music by starring in almost all the of school’s theatre productions. It was this same love of music that made him the black sheep in his family of doctors. Leehom was a bright child and received countless awards, including awards such as National Merit Finalist, MUN Delegate for four straight years, and a $6000 Scholarship. In a somewhat rebellious act, he changed his major last minute from pre-med to music composition and decided to attend Williams College. Not surprisingly his choice was not well received by his parents, but after realizing how much passion Leehom held for music, they grew to accept his choice.

Leehom’s big break came when Leehom first went back to Taiwan. At the time he spoke only a few words of mandarin, however upon a friend’s recommendation he entered a singing competition for fun. Many studio executives automatically realized his talent, and even before completing the competition Leehom was signed. Leehom released his first album when he was 19, however he did not get caught up in the celebrity lifestyle. He continued to education at Williams while juggling his rising stardom in Asia, amazingly he was able to balance his school work along with album promotions (which took place during his winter and summer vacations.) Despite being busy all year long, Leehom was still able to complete a self-produced, written, composed, and arranged 570+ page Broadway play for his honors thesis entitled “The Bite That Burns.” Leehom graduated from Williams with honors, and continued his graduate education at Berkelee School of Music in Boston.

In 1998 at the age of 22/23 Leehom became the youngest recipient of the Taiwanese Grammy (Golden Melody) for “Best Male Artist,” and “Best Album Producer”. Leehom is now one of the main songwriters for SonyBMG Taiwan. Because he is a perfectionist, when it comes to music he is not content in leaving his art in the hands of others. As a result he is active in all areas of musical production, from composing, producing, arranging pieces, writing lyrics, playing instrumental accompaniments, to directing his own music videos. Colleagues joke that he’s a one-man-album-making-machine. Leehom literally is a machine; he often does not got to sleep until 5 or 6 in the morning producing music.

Leehom has written, composed, produced, arranged, played instrumentals, done musical arrangements, etc for top Asian Stars such as Lim Jeong Hee, Fish Leong, Elva Hsiao, Jolin Tsai, A-mei, and Karen Mok just to name a few.

Having an innate predisposition to music not only allows Leehom to pick up different instruments with ease, but also different styles of music. He has a wide range of favorite artists including: Stevie Wonder, Pink Floyd, The Whos, Queen, the Neptunes, Prince, Heart, N.E.R.D, Beethoven, Bartók, Duke Ellington, Missy Elliot, Trina, Prince, Outkast, Ben Folds, Jamie Cullum, Elton John, James Blunt, and Herbie Hancock Because his taste in music is so diverse, he also produces a wide selection of songs, ranging from rock to pop to ballads to rap to R&B. His voice is just just as versatile as his music. Having started with a low bass-baritone voice, Leehom has now developed an impeccable soprano for many of his songs. Along with his changing voice, his music style has also continuously varies. In his latest musical experiment, Leehom has successfully combined concepts and fused western music with traditional Chinese sounds like that of Chinese Opera and music from tribal minorities.

Next week TalkAsia Lorraine Hahn will talk to this multi-talented singer, songwriter, and actor about his blending of eastern and western music, and the future of the Asian pop scene.

"But this, like all journeys should be, was also a journey of the self, and I ultimately learned some intangible qualities of the human soul. A musical thread connects us, consistently from civilization to civilization. And that thread runs through you just as it does me. What patterns, and colors it will weave as the course of history plays out is only limited by our imagination and ability to dream." - Wang Leehom
