I reallie don't know much about mp3 players so I want you guys thought about these two. Which one do you think is better? The scandisk one looks pretty slick in black, the control panel looks easier to use than the samsung one, the screen picture looks kind of better as well. What attracts me the most about it is that it's 6gb plus extra memory slot. THe bad thing is that one of the reviews said it's as thick as the ipod video, which is pretty thick, i think.

I personally like the samsung design better and i haven't reallie heard of the brand scandisk, so a bit skeptical about it.

Both of these comes out around March.

I reallie want a new mp3 player, i have an ipod right now, and let me tell you, NEVER AGAIN will i buy an ipod, battery life SUCKS, IMO tho, don't get offended ^^

Scandisk:

Pros:removable battery, slide show functionality, FM reception and recording, flash memory expansion and scratch resistant coating
Pros:Un-Scratchable, Plays; Videos, Photos & Music better then Nano, FM/AM Radio, User replacable battery, high battery life, looks like good controls & sexy as hell,
Cons:Is thicker then a ipod video!

Memory maker SanDisk is going prime time with its feature-packed Sansa e200 series, which includes the world's first 6GB flash player.

Also, it has a card slot so you can add extra memory to it

nahhhh sandisk have never really made anything special for mp3players.. hmm

buttt it looks pretty sweet.

the video playback seems special at first.. but then after a while it's like "meh..." i know this because of my YP-T8Z hehehe. You hardly ever use it. because the screen is pretty small anyway..

it's the first 6GB Flash player because it's using an extra 2GB TSOP chip haha. nothing that special is it?? but better battery life. I'd take a chance and go for the Sandisk... the earphones that sandisk pack with their mp3players arnt that bad.. if they are the noise isolations then that will be great. comfortable silicon covers.. hmm not bad.

sandisk FTW... just by +1 though.. ti's very close imo

I just got the Samsung YP-Z5 today. I was SO FREAKING hyped to get it.. but.. I see more negatives than positives. Navigation is kinda hard, so you have to get used to it. Sometimes it'll do what you tell it to. The "Getting Started" disk really isn't necessary. The way you put songs onto it is kinda weird. You have to have Windows Media Player 10 (or higher) and use the "sync" feature. I never used it before today.. so again.. this is something I'll have to get used to. The earphones are a bit uncomfortable, but the sound is GREAT!

- Edit -
Okay, I may have been too quick to judge. Lol. I took the mp3 player with me to school and everything just clicked. I was able to pick up on what I needed to do to navigate better. Saera pointed out that there is an easier method of adding songs onto it (by using the drag and drop method). Now the only negatives I see are.. the uncomfortabe earphones, and the fact that I can't figure out how to make playlists on it. ><;

I'm debating whether to get the samsung or the sandisk myself. I'm tempted by the extra features on the scandisk (video, recording, FM radio) but I can't really imagine myself ever putting them to use. (I really only need a MP3 player but I suppose I'd like to option of occasionally watching a video?) Let us know what you decide.

i own a Samsung.. and i do agree their mp3player range is pretty good..

just one problem with sandisk.. there are no reviews (that i've found) on it. the video play back quality could be really bad.. you dont know.. eg. poor sync with audio, poor colour and so on.

if you dont care about videos.. get the samsung... videos is just "meh" on a small screen.. =P

It's good to hear you're getting used to the Yp-z5. Have you tested out its battery life yet? Although it claims aroudn 35 I'd guess in acutal usuage (changing songs, volume, turning it on and off) it'd be more like 25.

hey !!

for all those having trouble deciding between the sandisk and samsung ~ which are both worthy nano competitors ~ good choices btw ~ i would strongly suggest you wait a few more weeks until the sandisk esensa actually releases... if you can wait that is !

then you can base your judgement on more initial reviews and user opinions roll in... nice to also go to a local retailer like bestbuy to see it yourself.

i don't know much about either... i still own a rio carbon and absolutely love it and use it everyday. its getting old though and i'm leaning towards something new

i'll just briefly note some things you might have overlooked...

>> sandisk sansa e270

its funny you don't know about sandisk cause they're one of the several largest flash memory manufacturers in the world. ~ big portion of the sd / cf cards are from them so basically they have unlimited flash mem and can sell them at a cheap price. i think they also announced that their #2 best selling mp3 manufacturer in america... whatever that means. boo creative /// well ne ways about the player...

since this things not out yet... and i can only base on specs ~ this is gonna be preety positive::

+ you quoted removable battery... this is a BIG PLUS imo. since it seems like you've left ipod cause of poor battery life.. this should greatly appeal to you. base 20hrs/charge should be more then adequate for daily use. but after a few years... battery life would eventually n gradually degrade and this is where you have the bonus option of replacing it and start brand new. you can also bring extra for backup on long trips.

~ this is probably why they had to increase the thickness of the unit.

+ expandable micro sd slot ~ not sure if this would be of any interest of you but i guess it would be useful if you have other micro sd devices alongside... for eg.) you could dump all your pictures onto your player and refill more free space to take more pictures

just some other small notes...

+ large 1.8 tft screen ~ you can view outdoors in sun ?
+ fm radio ~ neither nano or samsung have // btw i don't think they have am on this one...
+ video playback ~ neat.. but chances are you'll have to encode them into a specified format
+ user eq
+ isolated earphones ~ dampen out external sound

yahh... so to sum things up~~ if sandisk gets this thing out soon (amazon says end of march?) and assuming they have competitive pricing (which they've always been known for) // good usable controls and gui (rls pics look kinda clunky) // and no serious downfalls (looks good on spec to me) ... then this thing is gonna be a preety nice alternative to the nano.

>> samsung yp-z5

go read anythingbutipod review @ http://www.anythingbutipod.com/archives/20...ypz5-review.php

i think hyori was advertising it earlier probably part of the anyclub deal... i like this b/c theres dedicated volume buttons / attracting slim sleek design / samsung ~ support korea even though samsung is one fcked up company...

if you've been following... i think samsung actually hired one of the original ipod designers to fix up their gui ~ user interface like menus etc... guess if you can't beeat em, you steal their employees !

bad thing with this to me is ~ no user replaceable battery / no user eq / forced to use windows media player // no otf playlisting ** deal breaker to me

- - - - - -

hope that helps ! ~ might wanna consider the rio carbon too... its not flash based and they're out of business but its still an excellent product and you can probably get the 6 gig pearl for $100ish.

I'm still at that first stage of adding songs and pictures on it haha. And whenever you connect the Z5 to the computer, it charges, so I haven't really tested the battery. ^^; But I've gotten extremely comfortable the navigation, so it's all thumbs up for me now. xD
