I'm considering getting a second piercing - I only have one in each ear right now, in the usual place. I've toyed with this idea, but am not really sure I should. I'm thinking of either getting a second hole next to the first one in each ear, or just getting the upper cartilage of one ear (probably my right ear) pierced.

Yet, I'm worried that this would be a bad idea for the future, when I start interviewing or working in a company environment. I'm thinking of going into Advertising or Public Relations. Is it professional to have more than one hole in each ear, or have a cartilage piercing? My thoughts are "NO," but I'd like to see what everyone else thinks, also.

I also feel like I should do it during college, if I'm going to do it at all, because doing it when I'm 30 doesn't sound like such a great idea laugh.gif

I didn't post this in the Health & Beauty forum, because I felt I'd get more relevant answers to my specific situation here smile.gif

Thank you to everyone for their input happy.gif

Exactly what MONICA said, you can always take it out.
Thought I couldn't live without you
It's gonna hurt when it heals too
Even though I really loved you
I'm gonna smile 'cause I deserve to.

True, I know. But I was just finished watching My Name is Kim Sam Soon, and I noticed that the main actress has like 5 holes in each ear - she usually did not wear any earrings or if she did, one earring in each. Now I understand that for the character, she probably did not wear multiple earrings at once, but everytime the camera zoomed in on her face, I couldn't help but notice the multiple holes - and I wasn't the only one. My roommates noticed also, and they weren't even really watching the series dry.gif

It's only the second piercing; if you take the earrings out, it's not as noticable as you think. It's probably noticable with 5 holes in each ear (but no one is going to take a camera and zoom in on your face like in dramas), but with one more hole, it's not really a big deal. If you have long hair, it'll probably cover your ears up anyways.

Go for it, just remember to take them off during job interviews and your first or two weeks after getting the job. Then you can start wearing again without much people noticing, though some job would recommend you have it off.

i don't see how it's that big of a deal. i have a second hole. if you just wear a really small stud, or just not hwere it at all, i don't see the problem.

i've seen many people with more than two piercings on the job
Please don't forget me. { I'm going away. }
I'm taking a taxi to Kentucky where they don't even know all about me. I just need to feel s a f e.
I've got a thousand sweaters, and shoes, and paintings to hide the skeletons in my way.
But he said, "Slow down, slow down. Think it over, we've all got wretched closets, but silly girl pride kills more than Aids lately."
I said, "Come on, I thought it over. I don't wanna die here. I have no desire to get mrried."
Every night I pray for you, don't believe in heaven or that it could be a happy place.

I don't think a second hole or cartilage piercing is AS distracting as many other piercings options out there..

Some might say it's not professional, but hey, it's 2006.
no one cares what you think.

Nobody cares.

I have three ear piercings in one ear and two in the other. I left all earrings in while I was interviewing for full-time positions. I had five job offers.

If the company likes you, they won't care. If they don't like you, they will look for any reason to dismiss you as a candidate.

its a matter of self-expression. even though you dont want corporate america to judge you by your appearances they do....but at this day in age...you get away with a lot of things. and its just an earring...no harm there...i have several peircings and i hold down a job.

You can take it out so yes, it's fine.

My French student teacher's got three piercings on each lobe, two on her helix and a surface piercing on her right tragus, a tattoo on each shoulder blade and an ankle tattoo. She said that tattoos are easily covered if they're not approved and as for the piercings, you can take them out for the interview then put them back on - if they fire you because of them, then it's discrimination and you can file a complaint laugh.gif

I'm getting my nose pierced this year regardless of how unprofessional it may seem to uber conservatives.

I think a part of me is getting it in order to avoid ever having to work in an environment filled with conservatives. I prefer free thinking hippie types.

laugh.gif That was really funny! Thanks all for your input.

Now...if I could only convince my uber conservative parents phew.gif I'll just do it sometime during the semester so they won't see it. Thank goodness I don't go home much.

the people interviewing you aren't going to go "omg you have earring holes! i'm not hiring you because you have earring holes even though i didn't even see you with the earrings in the holes, or that you might not even wear earrings anymore"

get my drift?
