I'm sure everyone's heard of these two female trios. 가비 엔제이, the earlier debut of the 2 was said to be the female counterpart of popular trio SG 워너비 until 씨야 was formally introduced. Both groups, no doubt, have powerful vocals and live up to their titles as the 'female SG 워너비 (of course, we know that title is now given to 씨야).

Upon their debuts, each group put out powerful title tracks: 가비 엔제이 with "Happiness" (which did fairly well on the charts considering their newcomer status) and 씨야 with "여인의 향기" (Scent of a Woman). For those that have listened to the two, which do you prefer?

가비 엔제이's "Happiness" MV is a must see, by the way! Interesting video for those who are into the whole melodramatic side of Korean pop cult.

이른바 '여자 sg워너비'들이 속속 등장하고 있다.
최근 몇년 사이 여자 가수들의 섹시 열풍이 가요계를 휘몰아친 가운데 sg워너비와 같이 미디엄 템포의 발라드로 틈새를 공략, 조용히 인기 영역을 확대해 가는 그룹들이 있다. 가비 엔 제이, 씨야, 브라운아이드 걸스가 그 주인공으로 sg워너비와 같은 보컬 그룹으로 '여자 sg워너비'라는 별칭답게 sg워너비가 쌓은 아성에 도전하고 있다.

가장 두드러지는 그룹은 가비 엔 제이(gavy n.j. � 사진왼쪽). 노래 가(歌), 왕비 비(妃) 그리고 멤버들의 이니셜을 따서 이름을 지었다는 가비 엔 제이는 지난해 11월 데뷔후 단 한번의 쇼케이스만으로 2만여장의 앨범 판매고를 올렸고, 별다른 활동 없이도 타이틀곡 '해피니스'는 각종 온라인 차트 정상을 차지했다.

이런 인기 역시 스무살 안팎의 멤버들의 어린나이에도 불구하고 sg워너비를 연상케하는 폭발적인 가창력이 뒷받침 됐기 때문이다는 분석이다.


그룹 씨야(SeeYa � 사진 오른쪽)는 데뷔전부터 '여자 sg워너비'로 관심을 모은 그룹이다. 가비 엔 제이와 같이 남규리(21), 김연지(20), 이보람(19) 등 어린 멤버들로 구성된 씨야의 데뷔 앨범은 sg워너비와 차은택 감독, 김광수 GM기획 대표가 공동 프로듀싱을 맡아 화제를 모았다.

1집 타이틀 곡인 '여인의 향기'는 sg워너비의 '광'을 작곡한 조영수의 작품이며, 또다른 수록곡 '구두'도 sg워너비의 '살다가'를 작곡한 류재현의 곡이라 닮은꼴을 띤다.

이들은 sg워너비에 버금가는 폭발적인 가창력에 깜찍한 외모까지 겸비해 더욱 주목을 끌고 있다.


브라운아이드 걸스는 브라운 아이즈를 발굴한 갑 엔터테인먼트와 음악프로듀서 집단인 내가네트워크가 손잡고 3년간의 기획기간 끝에 탄생시킨 그룹이다. 여자 브라운 아이즈라 불리기도 하지만 브라운 아이즈가 추구한 미디엄 템포 R&B에 힙합을 접목한 하이브리드 솔(Hybrid Soul)로 더욱 진화된 음악성을 보여준다.

특히 서로 다른 개성을 지닌 보컬 3명과 래퍼 1명으로 구성된 브라운아이드 걸스는 풍부한 감성과 고음역대를 자유롭게 넘나드는 가창력으로 최고 여성 보컬 그룹의 자리를 노리고 있다.

신인답지 않은 탄탄한 실력을 자랑하는 이들의 '여자 sg워너비' 경쟁은 2006년 가요계에 등장한 새로운 트렌드로 벌써부터 가요계를 뜨겁게 달구고 있다.

Honestly as a fan of SG Wannabe, i feel honoured coz there are some groups titled as another version of SG Wannabe ^^

personally, i like gavy nj and they appeal more to me. seeya on the other hand, while good, had way too much pre-debut buzz in my opinion and currently, they don't seem to be doing that well (sales-wise), or living up to the hype (sgwannabe invested a billion won,etc blah blah). gavy nj on the other hand are doing well without having as much hype IMO, even though they might not be all that hot (although the left one in your first picture, i think her name is jung hehmin, is quite pretty in my opinion). also, i think they marketed seeya badly which is why they don't appeal to me as much. from their images and cd cover, it looked like they were another pop group to me whereas gavynj looked really sophisticated and suited towards their music style. both groups are great though, just prefer gavy nj.

they're both good. but both have similar voices considering the fact that they're both considered girl versions of SG wannabe although officially its SeeYa. so far i think i prefer Gavy NJ since like the person above me, i like their sophisticated image and also Happiness is a great song too!! A Women's Scent (SeeYa) is pretty good too, but i guess i'll have to listen to it more to see if i really like it or not. but right now i think i like Gavy NJ a little more~

Love Gavy NJ. I've been listening to their album for 4 months now and still have no idea what their names are . My favorite is the girl pictured on the far right. The girl on the left is probably the prettiest when they aren't doing wierd things to her hair.

I love Gavy NJ as well...hehe...i juz came across one of their live perf on MBC Music Core on 4th Feb 2006 when i dl-ed the full show of it...dey sang 2 of their songs...
I've been looking for more of their live perfs but couldnt find dem...if anyone has more plz share wif us^^

awe..~* my sister's been listening to one of their songs for awhile now.. but i'm not sure what it's called.. it's really pretty and they have amazing vocals... Gavy Nj and See Ya sound similar to me, just like how SG Wannabe and Monday Kiz sound alike

At the moment I like Gavy NJ better. I listened to both albums and I like Gavy's songs more. The 2 older members of the group seem to have more experience (both majored in musical studies in college)...and the youngest one is really pretty (88'er!!!!!!!!) with a beautoful voice.
They also have a better name lol
And like someone mentioned...their moe sophisticated image appeals more to me as well.

Love them both. Their albums are both phenomenal (sp?), and their albums are now in my playlist.
They both do live up to the title as SG WannaBe, but, I'd enjoy it more if they performed more.

I've seen Gavy NJ perform, err, 3 times, and havn't seen SeeYa anywhere. o_o;

Both groups have exceptional voices compared to Korean pop music standards, but IMO Gavy NJ has a much better album than See Ya. I only enjoy about 1 or 2 songs from See Ya's album while Gavy NJ's whole album is great!

Just by comparing their two title tracks, which are the only songs that I have heard from both of them-- I say that I prefer Gavy NJ. It's undeniable that the two groups have talent, and follow the similar pattern of SG Wannabe. But like mentioned by ` k s, it's true that the hype for See Ya was a bit too much and I was just a tad bit disappointed when I heard their song. Only because I expected so much more whereas I didn't know much about Gavy NJ, and when I did hear them.. it left a lasting impression. Nevertheless, they are both great.

I've listen to SEE YA and SG Wannabe duet song ... i like it See Ya's voice is great but when i listen to SG Wannabe's part ... i end up loving their part ...

I just want to say that among See Ya, M to M, or Monday Kiz ( the groups with SG Wannabe other version title ) i still think SG WANNABE is the best ... none of the group can beat SG Wannabe ... SG Wannabe's voices is just GREAT !!!

But i think Monday Kiz is better than M to M. While for See Ya and Gavy NJ i still can't decide ...

i have to agree..... i like both groups... but comparing both of the groups i would go for gavy nj.... they seriously have a great album..... see ya's album was good for me.. but not great.... but i welcome both groups with open arms !! we need more of groups like this

I can't disagree more with the post above. We don't need more groups like this. This kind of music is already so diluted amongst the Doremi Entertainment singers.
