Korean music - YES, b/c they got me seriously into writing fan fictions, which have improved my writing skills overall. That maks an impact on my life b/c someday, I want to make a career as a journalist.

Korean dramas - MAYBE, b/c some dramas are so unrealistic and you just watch it for the fun of it, but sometimes, the dramas have little dialogues or parts of the plot that helps you make decisions in real life.

I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose, and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all

K-pop and K-dramas have definitely made an impact on me. First off, I find that I actually enjoy the music and the acting. It's refreshing because of how much I listen to and watch American productions. I'm not Korean, but I am Asian, and being an Asian-American, I find myself very Americanized and, sometimes, straying from my Asian heritage, so I feel that, in a sense, it helps me to connect to the Asian in me. -C. Lu

Oh, yeah. Both, K-music and K-dramas have affected my writing. I was really into writing, but all my characters were...um...white biggrin.gif ...because I was inspired by the writers who were popular in the US. But after listening to K-music and watching K-dramas, I wanted to try something new and found that I really enjoy writing stories based on Korean characters.

I think that's it. Peace! -C. Lu

Yes, it did. When I first listened to Se7en's song, that got me totally hooked onto Korean things. Seriously, all my friends know that I know Korean now. I listen to mostly Korean songsand watches mostly Korean dramas/movies. I'm like looking for a perfect korean relationship, I eat Korean food more often and is more interested in the Korean culture. Basically, I love anything Korean!

Korean music, yes... I think that they are an inspiration on people and plus, those singers, they are role models to teenagers, that's why they do shows and cfs and those non-smoking commercials and campaigns...

dramas yes too, cuz it shows how korean people think generally about appearances, love, friendship, school... Like for example, in dramas you see how the first love is so important... Like in an obsessive way, the first love is sometimes so tragic!! and they remember that forever, like people cannot let go...

hope it helps you laugh.gif

^ i agree with the above, and while i'm not full korean and don't always understand everything, i still make an effort to. and the music and dramas make me want to learn more, help me learn more, and while sometimes the music&dramas are incredibly corny, i still love them to death and they help me feel more in touch with the culture.

Korean Music has impacted my life, yes I'd say so. Me not being a Korean person, it has opened up the world of other Asian cultures through music and K-pop just happened to be the one of the first music that I've actually like listening to.

Korean Dramas.. oh god.. you should see my family. My mother refers to almost every situation to Korean Dramas, they're very comedic and romantic at the same time.

Both together has influenced what I think is "HOT" and what's not. tongue.gif

lol.

korean music:
anyhow, korean music has made an impact on life because it has made me discovered undiscovered music that not many ppl in our school listen. i live in the san francisco bay area, an area with a lot of diversity in ethnicity. as an asian, i choose to listen to asian music ONLY because it has a certain conservative/melodic side i usually would love to overplay.

the korean-american singer lena park is my biggest inspiriation ever. even though i am a guy, she has talent that has inspired me to be not afraid of who i am. the lyrics of her songs she writes (she doesnt write all her songs) in english has struck me. after knowing that she was a Columbia University student, i was amazed at her lyrics even more. even though she's a really shy singer (she lacks promotion), she has a powerful voice and hit vocals so high and at the same time, have a sweet, young voice. she's made me believe not to be afraid of who i am, and sing and do things in times of fear.

korean drama:
i got hooked into korean dramas by one of the biggest korean dramas ever in asia: Dae Jang Geum. It had a lot of culture in it. Now, the first time i saw it (i saw it in mandarin, back in the days when i didnt understand mandarin), i had learned that it was extremely popular in HK and Taiwan. i decided to watch some episodes with english subtitles. it had one of the most greatest historical plots ever. one of my goals is to learn mandarin to understand these shows.

basically, without korean entertainment industry, i would not be learning mandarin. lena park, she has inspired me to learn mandarin. she did not learn korean until she became a singer, and that was around her late teens/early twenties? it has made me realize the importance of knowing ur culture. i did not understand why korean music/dramas were popular in china, but my curiosity on the reason why it was popular has made me interested in Asian culture.

I started to be addicted to Korean dramas since I watched Lover in Paris. I like the series because of the fast-pacing story. Then I started to be hooked on its music since I started to hear & saw all news about RAIN on the internet. Oh, I love his music. I love him. I like both all korean dramas/movies & music.

Korean music has changed my views towards Korea. I've become more open towards their culture, and have embraced a different perspective that I probably wouldn't be able to get here in the United States. Such as? An outside look on our policies. The music made me watch their programs and read some of their (translated) articles.
The music itself also influenced me to learn Korean! ^o^
I spend tons of time downloading as well...

Korean dramas allow me a glance into Korean traditions, modern perspectives, and culture in general. Perhaps it's not the true culture that they live in, but it allows me to look at some taboos and lifestyles that I hadn't known about.
