Get Trillian.

Aim, Yahoo, MSN, IRC and more...

ALL IN ONE

and it doesn't have ads and other random crap.

If your looking to talking to others over the internet then use Google Talk's client as its like crystal clear, only it lacks the features of other clients but it sounds sharp like no other I've tried.

Google Talk is not really an instant messenger, it's more of a internet phone thing...but don't get me wrong it's pretty freakin awesome.

I mean, your choices are pretty much between AOL Instant Messenger, MSN Messenger, and...what....Yahoo Messenger..? Just use the one that you think most of your friends are using. Google has its own now too...but no one really uses it yet. There's no point in having a messenger that no one you know uses, you know?

Trillian, Gaim, and IM2 are all good and popular choices.

Just go with Gaim, its more compatible and you'll be able to get more people on it since it connects to other clients. But if your looking for talking to people over the internet I'd still recommend Google Talk.

I thought Trillian was most preferred among those. I thought just most linux people used Gaim.
