1SwtDeception: cool! thanks for that

hahah...

I just hope that when I'm playing it doesn't go flying out of my hands and into the TV screen when I try to boomerang.

Red Steel sounds very interesting... especially the twisting wink.gif

Taken from GameFaqs boards. Not sure if all this is true. So take it with a grain of salt. Thank you to PhoenixDark for this.

DEVELOPMENT INFO
- Game development started shortly after E3 2005. Ubisoft saw and demoed the controller before E3 2005.

- Ubisoft Paris took their idea directly to Iwata and Miyamoto, and were given the go ahead. After that meeting they were given prototype controllers. The article states that Ubisoft worked "closely" with Nintendo's engineers in Japan on the title.

- Game Informer mentions that while conducting the interviews with Ubisoft, they were handed the "latest version" of the controller.

GAME INFO
- During the beginning of the game, you are encouraged to use your weapons ruthlessly, but as the game progresses you become more proficient and strategic. This gameplay idea led Ubisoft to decide to give the game a martial arts setting. "Enter the Yakuza".

- The first third of the game will be all about being "brutal by necessity".

- As you start out you will be less precise and probably favor more devastating weapons (machine guns). As you progress and become more precise, smaller guns will be more preferred. "The overall goal...is to use five bullets to kill five enemies".

- "When fighting with this level of skill, the music and sound effects will reflect it, remaining calm and peaceful".

- "When you fight brutally, the sounds around you grow increasingly more intense".

- Freeze shot: by fighting efficiently you fill the Freeze Shot gauge...fighting chaotically causes to decreases. When the gauge is filled you can hit a button to momentarily stop time, and then target specific locations on enemy bodies.

- Headshots thus are tempting, but non lethal shots, such as shooting guns out of enemy hand, can be more beneficial.

- By defeating high ranking leaders who command others and sparing their lives, you will be rewarded. He will offer you respect and help (guns, help, new weapons, alternate paths, etc).

- Respect plays a MAJOR part in the game.

- Flailing your sword isn't a smart idea.

- Specific motions with the controller will trigger combos (in the final game). Tracing an X in the air, for instance, will unleash a devastating attack.

- You can stop these combos at any time by simply pausing your own movement. So if you do something that leaves you open to attack, you won't be screwed.

- New moves will be taught to you by two mentors in the game. One will teach you gun tactics, and another will teach sword tactics. If you don't show the proper respect to them, they won't help you.

- Training sessions are offered by the two masters so you can hone your skills.

- Friendly/respectful interaction is tied to the controller. You signal "yes/no" answers by nodding the controller up or down or shaking it from side to side. You show extra respect by bowing to the masters.

- Ubisoft is still coming up with other interactions.

- "You can act disrespectively as well: there are no cut scenes in the game - all conversations take place in game, as in Half Life 2. However unlike that game, characters wont keep prattling on if you walk away from them. They will react angrily to your imputent behavior".

- Staying in the master's good graces is key: they give you missions that can be tackled in any order.

- You track down the gang leaders and try to turn them to your side. If you don't, they will join Tokai's (the main villian) gang.

- You have to prove you are worthy to them by battling them and sparing their lives. You will need as many of them with you as possible to face Tokai. Without their help, you'll have a rough time when you finally face him.

- You turn gang leaders to your side by besting them in battle and stopping a deadly blow miliseconds before it strikes.

GI hands-on impressions

- The two triggers on the front of the analog unit activate ducking and jumping. The analog stick controls movement, and the revmote controls aiming. No rails.

- Level consisted of shooting ranges that popped out from behind cover.

- "Aiming with the controller is as simple as using a laser pointer. You point your hand at a target and hit the trigger on the underside of the controller to fire.

- "Unlike other FPS games, which tie the camera and aiming together, Red Steel's camera follows your aim with a slight delay. If, for example, you point to the edge of the screen, the camera will turn to re-center on your view after a second. With the sensitivity of the controller, a standard FPS control would move too much, potentially making the player feel ill.

- "Thanks to the improved reaction that the controller offers, the team can create gunfight scenerios that would be extraordinarily diffilcult with a standard controller".

- Most console FPS games limit their enemies to horizontal planes to prevent player frustration, but targets on a verticle plane are just as easy to hit with the Revolution controller.

- You can aim at a target as quickly as you can move your hand.

- In the demo targets popped up on rooftops and in second story windows, as well as behind cover points on the ground, and all were equally easy to hit.

- While you can quickly shoot enemies anywhere on screen, Red Steel never feels in a light-gun game - this is a true FPS, one that feels like it has drawn from the best of both the PC and console shooter worlds.

- According to lead game designer Oriola, it takes roughly three seconds to turn completely around around in most console shooters, while it takes about one-quarter second in a PC game. In Red Stel, it takes one second.

- AI characters will care for themselves. They will go for cover, attack you while you're reloading. They focus on risk management.

- "They won't walk around a table to get to you. They will simply jump over the table".

- "The benchmark for their intelligence and aggressiveness, says Oriola, is the PC title F.E.A.R., which has widely been praised for it's AI".

MULTIPLAYER:

- Split screen multiplayer with traditional deathmatches.

- Totally original multiplayer modes Ubisoft is not revealing yet. Wait until E3.

- They didn't talk about Nintendo Wi Fi (NDAs). Full details haven't been revealed yet.

- Revolution works by placing a small sensor bar either above or below any TV.

- You can stand at any angle and not lose any accuracy. You can even take your controller to a friend's house and instantly start playing without syncing up the controller.

- "Perhaps most impressive is the fact that although splitscreen reduces the amount of onscreen space you are playing in, you don't have to make smaller movements - you can gesture as wildly as you want, and it won't interfere with the other player's onscreen quadrants

Anyone else happy or is it just me? biggrin.gif

instantnoodlez Yea it looks realll nice! And apparently it isn't even pre-render.. I'm not sure how that goes.. but man if that's how Rev is going to pull of with-- graphics wise then it shouldn't matter too much if it needs other kind of technological fun ^^. And from that board I go to.. apparently the graphics wouldn't matter if it's on a regular TV. IN HD TV you see the difference. I know I'm not one of the "majority few" with HD TV here sleep.gif.. but I have seen it and yes it's nice.. err haha not trying to rant off to you now T-T!

rumblefish: haha yea.. don't kill your TV! Trust me I feel like I had a few close encounter with that. I'd cry if I end up shattering my TV due from my boomerang throws or breaking glass from sword fighting =P.

azn_seraph: I think the only annoyance for me and the controller is always holding it up.. like without support.. weight training like =P Cause apparently the people hold the controller on their elbow and lap.. just like a regular controller type

Oh yeah, I also forgot to mention that the Revolution's virtual console will also have Turbo Grafix 16 and Sega Genesis games for downloads...

I think the newest generation of consoles can play them all via emulator of course. I might buy a Rev... I almost bought a Gamecube when it was out but I only wanted a few games. Hopefully, they will have a good constant line-up and start introducing more games.

aaandy:Well for the GC games.. I think res0nate said it in a nice tune of not having enough quality games (correct me if I have the wrong person T.T). I'm sure the REV can produce some sweet games out there -- 1st + 3rd party exclusives hopefully with its controller interaction ^^. I'm sure you'd want to get Rev too since it's cheaper than the PS3 XD and you could use some Nintendo love ;]

xkrndreamer: Yeaa the Rev will have that! It's posted on my first post =D.

*Huge Historic Library. Revolution will have downloadable access to 20 years of fan-favorite titles originally released for Nintendo 64, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and even the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).

This would be pretty helpful considering I can't find my 64 cartridges anymore and I miss using it's weird controller.

Range: tisk tisk Range you know you want to support Nintendo by getting the Revolution ;]

sHiNHaWk: Your screen names makes me think of calling you a shiny hawk ^___^. But yea I heard about that too! I really need to update the first post of this thread sleep.gif. I hope Sega will produce only for Nintendo. And I think it's true too biggrin.gif

Man I really gotta update this thread.. x.x
BUT!

According to Harrison: Approximately 20 Launch Titles (FOR THE REV)
http://www.revolutionreport.com/index.php?...ode=read&id=383

In a recent interview with Game Informer Magazine, Nintendo of America's Senior Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Communication George Harrison cited the number of titles expected at the launch of the company's next-generation console, code-named Nintendo Revolution.

According to Harrison, Nintendo is planning approximately 20 titles total for Revolution's launch. He also noted that about a third of them would come from Nintendo.

Harrison also said Nintendo has learned some lessons from the PlayStation 2's success and GameCube's launch. "The other thing we recognized is that you really make your reputation in the first year. You've got to deliver software, not just at launch, but you've got to deliver software in the first six to nine months after launch. It has to be solid software," Harrison stated. "In GameCube, we didn't have that, we had kind of a drought for six months after it launched. By that time your reputation starts to solidify and it's hard to reverse that after awhile."

For those unaware, the following information is known or has been speculated regarding Revolution launch titles (please note that all of these games are either unofficial or have no official release date and may not show up at launch):

French Publisher Ubisoft recently announced that Red Steel would be a launch title; Tecmo has cited Skatto Golf Pangya Revolution (tentative title) as a launch game, but currently only for Japan; Midway has a Revolution project in the works set to arrive this year, potentially at launch; recent speculation has pinned two titles from Activision -- new iterations of Call of Duty and Tony Hawk -- as launch titles; THQ is preparing a Revolution version of Disney/Pixar's Cars, set to arrive around launch; a Revolution version of Atlus' Trauma Center is rumored to be a launch title; Nintendo President Satoru Iwata stated a new installment of Super Smash Bros. would be available at launch, although the status of the game is unknown. In addition, Metroid Prime 3 and Shigeru Miyamoto's new IP are currently believed to be launch games, as well.

In addition to launch discussion, Harrison touched on a number of other topics. Concerning what will be packed in with Revolution, Harrison said Nintendo is still deciding; one free-hand unit and nunchucku will be available, but a second controller is being considered. As for price of the console, Harrison said, "our goal is to come in at a slightly more mass market price", speaking in comparison to the Xbox 360.

In regards to marketing Revolution, Harrison compared the obstacles ahead to some of the difficulties in Virtual Boy's marketing. He also mentioned that showing gameplay won't be sufficient; Nintendo is currently considering alternative methods of advertising by presenting gamers sitting on the couch utilizing the controller's multiple functionalities.

On the topic of horsepower, Harrison said a souped-up GameCube would have most likely performed as poorly as the original. Hence why Nintendo chose a different route. He did assure, though, that Revolution will be a multiple of GameCube's technical capacities.

Speaking briefly on the Virtual Console service, Harrison admitted that Nintendo hasn't pinpointed a cost barrier for downloads yet. However, he did say the company is studying the Xbox Live marketplace and considering possibilities.

Nintendo is expected to make further announcements at E3 in May. Revolution Report will be on-hand at the show with the latest information.

===================================

Wow possible of 20? That's pretty sweet! ^__^! I'd love to say more.. but I'm really tired x.x edit later!

it's not really a matter of the console it self.. it's more of a matter if emu developers are willing to keep developing for that console. so far, most of them have some kind of emulators.. my DC can emulate Genesis, Game Gear, SMS, NES and SNES, and so can the PS2, Xbox, and even some of the portables (although this is not as popular). but in many cases.. after a certain point..the emu guys stop as consoles eventually die out, and you'd have to have some kind of really popular console with a large user base in order to justify continuing development to create an emulator thats near perfect. So far, from my personal experience, most of the console emulators all have problems with framerates, vsync, and/or accurate sound reproduction. Even some of the "official" ones, like the Genesis emu for the DC. I wonder how well Nintendo will pull this one off.

Nintendo Wii

pronounced "we"

i'm sure we've all heard about it already, but wtf. revolution was sooo perfect, why nintendo, why??

Introducing... Wii.
As in "we."

While the code-name Revolution expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that seperates videogame players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their games... and each other. But you're probably asking: What does the name mean?
Wii sounds like "we," which emphasizes the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.
Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people playing it. And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of videogames that sets it apart from the crowd.
So that's Wii. But now Nintendo needs you. Because it's really not about you or me. It's about Wii. And together, Wii will change everything.

My sister's words. They sum up my thoughts perfectly on the new name "Wii". smile.gif

QUOTE
People seem to be unhappy about the name "Wii" (pronounced "we"). Me? I think it's adorable. It has a cute sound and it's a cute written word as well. I love, love, love it. All those male gamers who try to macho it up to mask the fact that they are a bunch of scrawny losers living in their parents' basements do not like "cute." What they fail to realize, however, is that Nintendo is made of cute, and it always has been. A plump little Italian man in red overalls? Cute! A girly elf boy in a green skirt? CUTE! Everything about Nintendo is just pokably adorable. And that's the way it should be.

And yeah, Nintendo gave the Wii a sleek, boxy sort of design, but keep in mind that this system is going to be so small that it could be in the shape of Hitler taking a crap on Mother Theresa and you would still look at it and have to squeeble over the size alone. The fanboys wanted it to have a testosterone-pumped name like THE NINTENDO EXCELSIOR, but can you imagine that emblazoned on the side of those adorable little consoles? Hells no. Wii is perfect.

Also, a lot of English speakers, especially outside the US, are all like, "Wah, they gave it a funny name and now nobody will take us seriouslyyyyy!" Yeah, well, shove it. We're a generation that taught ourselves to drive by playing X-Wing VS. TIE Fighter. Nobody was taking us seriously in the first place. And a note to Nintendo: NOW THAT I HAVE DEFENDED YOUR UNPOPULAR DECISION, I EXPECT MY TWILIGHT PRINCESS LIEK NOW PLZ.

The Wii is by far the lamest name for a console ever.
