wondering if you ever had a big big problem with any of your professors. im not talking the ones that give you a bad grade and you hate them for that. and im not talking about just bad teachers. im talking about the ones that dont give a crap about what they really teach, give you information and states that it is going to be on the midterm/final and never shows up there. tells students to find things out on their own and doesnt even help. he also gets us confused with other classes because he teaches at 2 other schools. One time he started reviewing the midterm and told us we needed to know this stuff that we didnt even know. turns out it was material from the other school.
anyone have a similar experience? i thought i would be okay considering i got a 90% on the first test but i think NOBODY got an A on the 2nd midterm. i ended up getting a 73 and everyone is complementing me on my "good grade." (The highest grade i think was a 84) quite frankly, im not satisfied. its my prerequisite for nursing! i was thinking of going to the freshman advisor to speak with her to try to get a new teacher for next quarter because we have this guy AGAIN next quarter. any suggestions will be appreciated! ill probably talk wiht my advisor on wednesday.

Because professors are usually the arbitrary grade determinant and how his decision on where the bell curve drops, I can understand how you feel this is unfair.
Some professors give online tests where you can just cheat. Some teach by the book. Some are no-brainer A givers (praise praise them), and some just don't give a crap.
So, talk with your advisor or your honors college advisor--talk with your Dean too. Voice your concerns, and ask for help or suggestions. If anything, it could land you a solid, honest recommendation from those who want to help you.

However, the class is an easy A. Even if we fail the midterm and finals, we literally get either an A, A-, or B+.
Still, this class is a major importance to our curriculum, so none of us are too particularly thrilled or happy about the fact that we are literally learning nothing. The only thing that we can do is to ask the department to avoid one professor teaching every section of a particular course, which is a petition that I am trying to start. I know that the department does not have that many professors, but we have enough professors to create enough flexibility to sign up for professors who we'd enjoy, or at least be willing to take. I am trying to call it some sort of a "monopoly", since we are paying for our classes, but I'm not too sure how far we can stretch that. Though, I think if the school does not have a large enough faculty, it is their job to hire a competent professor, at the least, or hire more professors. It really is unfair.

other than filling out a horrible teacher evaluation form at the end of the year, you're pretty much powerless.
so true. low evaluation form is the deal.
otherwise doing your best at it, you'll just have to live with it.
That's one of my problems now, it's grades we are talking about. So unfair.

You don't have to deal with crappy professors because you're paying for these classes now. Speak up and push/shove until something's done. My group was of 57 people so it was a significant problem.

You should have researched beforehand either by word of mouth or http://www.ratemyprofessors.com -- I use that all the time, months before I register classes.

At times, like my physics class they only offer ONE lecture... I have to say, my professor is quite horrid, I learned nothing. But its not like I had much of a choice... drop that and take what?
My previous physics professor was like the clear eyes commercial with a monotone voice... >_< gah.. BUT his C was at 50% and he let us use cheat sheets. My current one is an a-hole (his name is aniol so thats perfect for him). People ask him questions and its more or less Yeah, its in the book, Chapter 6 and they go O_o wtf!

I haven't had an unfair prof yet, but one of them has a horrible accent, so I can't understan a thing she's saying. That's worse than being unfair.

Lol - my experiences with lecturers r bad - being unclear is one thing but if u try, then u really won't hate them that much. I had the WORST lecturer for summer.
He was late half the time - late in marking, late in posting up updates, feedbacks, and also assignments - behind in teaching. He's INCREDIBLY sarcastic when answering questions on forums and extremely condescending. The TUTORS he chose were HORRIBLE! Some just came to get extra buck and didn't bother teaching much. One even answered, "Sorry! I don't know how to do the assignment! I'm not a programmer!" and this was a programming course! We were like, "So why r u here?"
The exams were even worse - he neva taught the course b4 so the exam was 10X harder than previous sessions. Well, afta that, he was nice and scaled the marks - which was good - however, he made a final blunder - for ppl who didn't pass but had a mark range between 46 to 49 (or just didn't pass the prac exam as it was one of the course criterias), they needa do a supplementary exam. Ok - so they did - but what the lecturer did was add those extra marks on these ppl's original marks and what happened in the end is ppl who had to take supp exams in order to pass the exam got higher marks and ranks than ppl who originally didn't hafta do the supp to pass. A few ppl got pissed but alas! The course have been dragged on far too long and we really just cbfed in the end and just left it at that.
*sigh* - they really isn't much to do about it - unless u'd like to personally complain to the chancellor (lol)

Lol. If he even HAVE a car. One thing we DID do is left him out in the cold when he offered for a free beer party after the exam. Only 3 ppl turned up 'cause...we were far too angry by the end of the exams...Haha!
