I go on newegg to search for a new video card. At first, I was shooting for an ati x1800xt, because I thought it would be cheaper than the highest end ati video card.

Lo and behold, the Sapphire x1900xt is going for 450 while the ATI x1800xt is going for 500. It's sweet for me because I get a better video card for 50 bucks cheaper, but it makes absolutely no sense at all. Anyone else ever find similar deals like this?

ATI fanboy I take it? Can't you get an X1900XT and flash it to an XTX?

7900GT is coming out in 2 days, i'd suggest you wait for that if you're considering Nvidia. Will be *as* fast as a 7800GTX and only 300 bucks. Hella lot cheaper...

=P

Sigged for life.

I'd wait a few days. The X1800XT is going to drop to 299 just like the 7900GT. At those prices, the X1800XT will beat the 7900GT in terms of performance for directx9 games(in open GL, Nvidia still beats ATI). Ultra High end is NEVER the way to go. Look at 7800GTX 512 prices in december. They were selling for over 1k. Now look at the 1900XT, which beats the 7800GTX 512. Its selling for half of what hte 7800GTX 512 was going for.

Of course, if you have a i can't readty power supply, or are buying a questionable power supply, or are just concerned about the noise, the 7900GT is the way to go.

Btw, don't forget the monitor. You can have a great game system in terms of hardware, but unless you have a 20.1/24 inch widescreen monitor, you won't be able to enjoy things like movies to their fullest extent.

i think you should just wiat for the 7900GTX to come out and you can get something cheaper which is still pretty dam good. like a 7800gtx .. that will run anygame..

i think a 7800GT will do fine.. or even a 6800GS..

they will run any game today easily. =D.
dont need a friggan x1900xtx for games which dont even struggle with a 6600gt.
