Does FAFSA pay for your financial needs in school?

Life goes on too fast.

they'll work with the school to create a 'financial package' for you.

depending on your need and your merits, they will give you a certain amount of money. some will be in the form of grants and scholarships (these two you don't need to repay), some will be loans at the student rate (you need to pay those off), and some will be either work/study or expected parent contribution.

I got no help from the whatsoever. It always depends on your situation if and how much you're gonna get.

Does having a job affect this?

My rents are dirt poor...but will I get less money if I get a J.O.B?

^ If you declare that youre independent and prove you get no financial support from your parents then you can apply for independece through your school financial aid office. Ask about it.

Yes FAFSA pays for my tuition.

The lower your EFC, the higher you get paid.

What's EFC?;__;

My counselor mentioned that whatever scholarship you have, you must apply through FAFSA no matter what.

NO! Fafsa does not pay for school unless you are from a LOW INCOME, UNDERPRIVILEDGE family.

If so, then yea...they basically cover everything.

Another thing to remember is that FAFSA helps you determine certain grants you're eligible for (Cal Grants A, B, C; Pell Grant; etc.). Even though you may quality as "low income" or whatever, you may not receive certain grants. For example, Cal Grant A is money available for those students who go to a university, but because I'm currently going to a community college, I can't get that money. Anyway, my point is that FAFSA does help pay for things, but how much money you receive will really depend on your situation.

You can check there to see if you qualify for Cal Grants. The cut off isn't really that low to qualify. I think the maximum you can get is $9,000 for private schools.

My EFC turned out to be literally HALF of my parents income.... does this make sense? do you think somethings wrong?

FAFSA doesn't pay for anything; it's the name of an application. You need to fill it out in order to apply for Stafford loans and qualify for Pell Grants and whatnot. The money you get on the basis of your EFC comes from the school, not the government.

wait, i don't understand.

UCR said that they're going to give me 18,000 dollars in financial aid. so some of it could be loans?? how does this work though? like, do they just hand me books or whatever?
so we'll just let them hate
cause they can't stop us babe

like does FAFSA give you money through the school, or do they notify you and then give it to the school? i'm kind of confused with this.
