I'm a freshman in hs and i'm in the orchestra filled with 9th-12th graders. obivously, the orchestra class isn't going to fit in everyone's schedule perfectly so they [the schedule people?] put the class in the period that favors the juniors cause its the juniors orchestra. when i got my schedule this year, i found out that i didn't have P.E [yay! no running and sweating for me w00t.gif ] because that would mess up my schedule and it wouldn't fit the orchestra. the problem is, i was bored so i read through the graduation requirements and it said that i needed to do a certain amount of hours for P.E blink.gif i asked some people about it and they said i needed to do those hours in order to recieve my diploma. crazy.gif it would seriously suck if i didn't get my diploma just because i didn't finish the gym hours. so what should i do? i doubt gym would fit into my schedule in the next 3 years because orchestra always messes up my schedule every year i been at my school [it goes from grade 7-12]. but the other years, i would just get less studies and now its getting me out of PE. i cant get out of orchestra because it makes my transcript look good to play in the same orchestra as upperclassmen AND my parents would never let me. wacko.gif soo any advice?

^ lol i've never heard of summer school for P.E.

do you get scheduled spares in your junior and senior years at your school? if you do, i'm sure you could somehow fit in P.E. in there somewhere. your school has to incorporate a working schedule for you to be able to graduate. it's their job to ensure everybody gets a chance to graduate. i wouldn't really worry about it now if i were you. it can be fixed later.

I want to rip off your logic and make passionate sense to you.

You should take all the REQUIRED courses and finish them as soon as you can so you won't have to worry about it later on. PE is one of those things. Take it over the summer if you can't do it during the year, I did it and it was very worthwhile.

there's summer school PE or independent study

maybe you'll have a free period senior year that'll allow you to take a PE class.

Don't worry too much, I'm sure you and your counselor can figure something out

take PE over the summer. Or what joonage said join a sport.
Joining a sport can get you a waver and get you out of PE(my friend did this and she took bowling). Summer school will give you the credit needed.

are you sure there's not space for PE anywhere? in my school there's a pe class every period of the day. you should talk to your guidance counselor i'm sure they could work something out.

You might also consider signing up for health-related classes at a community college near you. At our high school, dance classes taken at the nearest community college qualifies for health credits. You might want to check to see if this is the case with your high school as well.

i took a whole year of PE my freshmen year & was supposed to take another year during sophomore year (2 years are required to graduate) but since i took journalism 2 this year, i had no room in my schedule. i was gonna take it senior year but figured i wanted to get a fourth year of a science in SO i`m taking it in summer school. it`s gonna suck & i`m gonna die but hey, that`s what i have to do --;;

talk to your couselor about it, but your best bet is summer school

btw: do you have anything like a 6 & 1/2 period or something? like an extra class after school sort of deal? at my school, you can take a whole year of that as a PE class and get at least a semester in.

i had to take summer comp sci to take orchestra all four years, and i've only ever gotten to choose one elective period besides that per year. and i say "choose" lightly because really i had to "choose" electives i needed for required credits or as prerecs.

but seriously, how can you not be able to take gym?! orchestra is all four grades at my school too but nobody has trouble fitting in gym and the only classes you can take over the summer are intro comp sci, chem 1 & world history/geography 1.

what the heck?! sports don't count for PE cred at my school, and only frosh & soph take gym as a class, after that it's weight training and a couple other semester electives only. but you need 2 years of gym for that. summer gym...how weird. and taking it as a senior?!

well, i would take it. can't be that hard, right, you just play most of the time anyway.
Hey, look! Finally a different signature after all these years!

I have the same problem - we have to take one gym every single year and I didn't have a PE this year (junior year) and I dread taking two my senior year, which probably isn't possible because I have so many academic classes. =/

What we can do is get a waiver (though somewhat difficult to obtain, I've heard) and work out at a gym a few times a week ourselves for the same amount of time you would do it during school... you have to keep a log and journal each time you excersise.

I'm thinking of doing that this summer, and it'll keep me fit too! smile.gif (since I tend to laze about in the summer and get fat XD)

I hate doing gym in SCHOOL, because imagine going to gym and then plopping down all sweaty and stinky and icky next to some cute guy?!
smile. you don't know who's day you're making. :)

YOu guys have an Orchestra Class? Wow...

Anyways...for me, we're required 3 gym courses to graduate. It wasn't a big deal cause...how can anyone not want gym...it's the most easy and exciting class of the day!

I was in the same exact situation as you this summer. I wanted to do orchestra but there was no way I could fit PE into my schedule.

Resolution: Summer school.

I thought it was a bad idea at first because you have to do 5 hours of it each day for 6 weeks (for me at least) but it turned out to be better than regular P.E during the school year.

I play a sport so I can waiver my PE credits easily. But most of my friends in orchestra waiver their PE credits because they have a full schedule and don't have enough school time to take PE. That's how our school works anyways.

Try to see if you can get your PE credits waived or talk to your counselor.

Take a dance class. It's fun and you don't have to run as much. smile.gif
