where do our $82 go???? for freaking paper to make our test booklets??

obviously they don't need that much money for the exams cuz i swear, half the people who are taking ap exams at my school are free&reduced (and they ONLY have to pay $5 tears.gif tears.gif). i paid for three ($246, which i can buy a psp with by the way) and i want my money back haha. i feel ripped off.

school is financially killing me and i'm not even in college yet.

Mine were $90 apiece, and I think most of the money is for paying the people to grade the tests. The multiple choice section might not take such effort to grade (they probably use machines), but the free response sections have certain criteria for grading. I know for the AP Chemistry exam, they're pretty strict on the way you answer the questions, and if the "test graders" disagree on something, they have to have a meeting or something to agree on how the point-system works. Plus, it probably takes a lot of hours to grade these things.. You may think that you're getting ripped off, but it's a whole lot cheaper than college courses.

it's better than paying thousands for a college course later. i took an AP exam and my score is getting me out of a gen ed course which is saving me my time to take another course and getting that out of the way smile.gif

yea, my parents were like, another advantage to taking AP courses besides looking good for college is that you get college credit if you get a good score and it saves money since it's cheaper compared to college classes.

If you ask for financial aid, you can pay for your AP exams as low as $5 per exam.

it's $90 at my school

my friend is taking 6 AP classes and has to pay $540. She also has a sister and brother in high school so they have to pay around $1000 for AP tests... lol

my teacher, who's an AP English exam grader, said AP tests would only be around $20 if they were multiple choice. However, since they do have free response questions, they have to be hand graded. Most of the costs goes towards grading the exam: they have to fly in the graders (they all meet somewhere in Florida in June), pay for hotel accomodations, two week's salary, etc...

wouldn't it be nice it AP exams were all multiple choice with partial credit? -__-

I have free lunch so I don't have to pay at all :x I just need to write a thank you letter to...whoever's paying for me o.o lol

The money goes to the people who have to read the essays and etc. I still think that it's too much money (especially to take a friggin' test -__-;; )

yeah that's what some of the people in college tell me how it's worth it cuz a class costs SO much more. but what happens if i don't pass it.. there goes $82 down the drain. ah, oh well, i guess its my motivation to do well.

but $90??? where do you guys live?

My history teacher was one of the graders that they flew in.
He said that they got great food.
This guy had been teaching the ap class for 15+ years lol.

They are paid on how many tests they grade... so the more the better... basically how all collegeboard graders are paid.

wtffff =______=.
Mine is $52 a piece until March 8, then $72, and then $82 after another deadline.
But total I had to pay $312!!
I can't believe some kids at your school only had to pay $5!!!!!!!!!!!! X_______X

Edit: Oh right, I was thinking about this, and.. I remembered that there's a school in a neighboring county where they actually PAY the students if they take an AP Exam and pass. X______X; I guess it has to do with school figures... because my school gained a lot of renown after we performed best on the Physics AP two years ago?? Still, maan... TT_TT; I want to be paid too! haha.
