Paella (pronounced IPA: /pa'eʎa/) is a rice dish, originally from Valencia, where it is eaten especially on Sundays and during the Falles. There are many variations of it with different ingredients.

The name paella is the word for "frying pan" in Valencian (from Latin paella). However, the dish has become so popular in Spanish that the word paellera is now usually used for the pan and paella almost exclusively for the dish.

Paella is usually garnished with vegetables and with meat or seafood. The three main ingredients are rice, saffron, and olive oil.

This is the ultimate party/gathering food unless of course you're allergic to seafood.

Anyway, has anyone tried this? The rice must taste so good after cooking with those meats.

i had some when i went to spain 2 years ago. i think in madrid they only serve it on thursdays b/c we weren't able to get it in the restaurants since we were leaving on a wednesday, but my mom's aunt's daughter's boyfriend's parents were kind enough to make some for us and it was soooooooooooooo good.

it's not spicy at all. the color comes from tumeric, but i think originally it's suppose to come from safron flowers which are ridiculously expensive $100/ounce i think, but my mom's aunt's daughter's boyfriend's parents used tumeric for the color.

I've tried this once before in high school, when my Spanish class decided to have a party.
