Converting HQ files to MQ/LQ

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone can suggest me a suitable prog to conv HQ avi files to MQ/LQ? My comp is slow so it's not able to play HQ files~the movies got stuck from time to time and the audio is not linear with video. Is there any need to use video/audio compression? I tried once and the movie didnt get stuck-ish but the pictures became weird.. So onegai, can sumone help me on this? Thanks a lot

Next time post this in troubleshooting.
I would recomend pocket divx encoder to you, but you have to realize that decreasing the quality of a movie would take more computer power than you would think. From the sounds of it, a 2 hour movie would easily take you 4 hours or more depending on how fast or slow your computer is.
So. If I don't want you to do that what do I recomend?
Update your codecs. In the troubleshooting subforum, there is a video can't play thread. Your videos DO play, but I think the codecs are just outdated and aren't as efficient.
You could also consider cleaning up your computer a bit, (ccleaner google it) works well to clean out junk. Also close extra programs running in the background to try to conserve computer power and ram.
