Ok, i'm looking to get a new digital camera. I've had the sony dsc t-1 for a few years now, but i've realized that it takes terrible quality pictures indoors and at night. Budget is up to about 300 bucks, and i've narrowed it down to the z1 and the a610 (don't ask why those two models, there are constraints to the issue that don't need elaborating). My friend just got a z1 and tells me how great it is, but i'm looking for a camera that just flat out takes great pictures, in all situations, stand still, sports, and outdoors.
which one?

They both do, supposedly, but the a610 probably fits better in your hands than the Z1, since the Z1 is just like the SD550 (a small rectangle), it can lead to accidental triggerings and annoyances.. but ya.. they're both pretty decent. Most cameras are good at taking all kinds of shots, except sony just sucks.. so stay away from their cameras.
I am the minority here.

yeaa...ive owned a sony before...it broke though. lol...JUST when i got the hang of it. i didn't like it that much...
So then i did my fair share of research..and at first i wanted the CanonSD550 just cus everyone else wanted it..but then i started looking at other Canon cams...and i found A610 which i thought was MUCH more practical and it offers more for its price than those cameras that sell large for its miniscule size and sleek looks.
i JSUT got the a610...and like it. and yea..it does fit the hand well.
i would definitely recommend a610

I'd also recommend the A610. It uses AA batteries which are not expensive like proprietary batteries and I think it has a better lens and imaging system.

If you're into macro photography, you'll like the 1-cm minimum focus distance.

You can also take multiple exposures up to 2~3 frames/second but be sure to get a high speed SD card so that the camera can quickly write those images onto the card. I currently am using a Sandisk Ultra II and it works well, there's an Extreme III card from Sandisk that's faster but I haven't tried it on my A610.
