Nadal upped his game so much. His serves, returns, backhand, forehand, and volleys in the end.
Federer dealt with Mono - at least 6-month rehabilitation. He might be at the top of his game but the level of improvement was stalled. Nadal trained his heart out and it payed off.
Good job Nadal.

I'm upset Fed lost since he seemed to have put up such a match after that rain delay. But congrats to rafa anyway.

I'm taking a taxi to Kentucky where they don't even know all about me. I just need to feel s a f e.
I've got a thousand sweaters, and shoes, and paintings to hide the skeletons in my way.
But he said, "Slow down, slow down. Think it over, we've all got wretched closets, but silly girl pride kills more than Aids lately."
I said, "Come on, I thought it over. I don't wanna die here. I have no desire to get m♥rried."
Every night I pray for you, don't believe in heaven or that it could be a happy place.

I actually thought Fed would win it all after down 0-2 ...
But 9-7 in the final. That's some hardcore tennis.
Hmmm ... I don't think Fed's done tho. I think he's just having an off year.

I don't think there was anything off with him losing this match. Rafa just played so well - they both were. It was unbelievable.
There was some talk about the lighting in the last game, because both players stated they couldn't see a thing. And it was said that if Fed had broken back 8-8, they would've suspended play until Monday. x: Which would've been so intense.
Overall, I'm gutted that Rog didn't win - and you can really see the disappointment. The tears in his eyes in the on-court interview after the match, and the answers he gave in the press room. I just feel for him so much, but if anyone could beat him on grass at Wimbledon, it would be Rafa. And I'm glad it was him.
Some quotes from the press interview:
"This really hurts…"
"The rain didn’t help me that much – I didn’t win the match, did I? I was struggling with the wind a little bit and the light was tough but that was not an excuse. This is probably the hardest loss of my career so far."
"Losing Paris for me was nothing, losing here is a disaster."
And some USA Today snippets that I thought were great.
This was how an immortal contest should end.
Two tennis hardheads slumped in their chairs, faces vacant of expression, because there was nothing left to give. After five sets, nearly five hours of play. After more peaks and valleys than the continent of Asia. After rain delays, because even Mother Nature apparently needed a break when Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal met.
This was how a classic match should be.
One special moment after another after another, from midday to an English summer dusk.
One of the men finally won, because one of them finally had to.
(snip)
This was how a legendary champion should fall.
With grace and honor and the knowledge no effort had been left undone in the defense of what had been his. "I tried everything," Federer told the crowd at the All England Club when it was finally over Sunday, holding up the award for second place, probably feeling like a lion holding up a stalk of celery.
(snip)
Know when a sport event is truly remarkable? When you can't decide who to applaud for the most — the winner or the loser.

^
^I wished it ended differently as well.
But Congratulations to both players for delivering such an epic battle!
I could barely watch the match during the 5th set, as much as I hoping, praying Roger would break Nadal's serve, but he'd already missed so many opportunities, and you had that gut feeling that Nadal was going to prevail in the end.
Anyway, either player were more than deserving of the title.
Can't wait till the US Open. Hoping Roger will bounce back even though this loss hit him hard..
Check out the points in the ATP rankings:
1 Federer , R. 6600
2 Nadal , R. 6055

Hopefully this takes a bit of pressure off Federer, so that people stop expecting him to win 3 GSs a year. And all those writing his obituaries before Wimbledon this year could be silenced by a performance like that, regardless of the results.
