Maria Sharapova playing in her Manolos? oh yeah.

Can't believe Jelena Jankovic came this close to becoming the new number 1 and lost to Safina. Bah to WTA tennis. No one is rising from the ashes when they finally have the opportunity to.

I certainly hope the top seeds last in Cincy. Kinda anticlimatic to have Rafa playing Kiefer in the finals straight after Wimbledon.

Yeah I heard about that one, sounds like so much fun biggrin.gif Much better than the weird battle of surfaces they did last year anyway. Although how anticlimatic would it be if they had Blake instead.......

exos aside, Federer is looking so drained right now, I'm sure the last thing he wants to think about are exos. he should just pull out and emotionally recharge. The no 1 spot is pretty much gone now, and the match against Ginepri today was just down right depressing.

Not yet, but looks like he's about to maybe this week, or maybe by USO. The horror of trying to explain ranking points ... it basically reflects the last 365 days. Federer had heaps of points this time last year, made some gains early this year, but losing AO, Wimby and Toronto costed him a few hundred points. Nadal had a string of recent victories, so he's catching up and almost there.

I haven't watched any of Fed's matches after Wimbledon, so I don't really know how he's doing, but I'm going to be so depressed if he loses his #1 ranking. And that's getting very close. D:

Needless to say, he's not been playing too well......and Nadal actually looks like he's gonna take number one this time (amazing...)

I don't have a problem with Nadal being no 1, even though I'm obviously Fed fan. Nadal has FIVE grand slams and still hasn't made it til No 1 yet. I almost feel sorry for the guy because he obviously deserves it. In any other era, he should've been no 1 two years ago, and the only reason he's the longest serving no 2 is becoz he's up against a guy who happens to have 12 grand slams.

Besides it's not like once Fed's dethroned, he'll never be no 1 again. I think he might enjoy being an underdog for a change. smile.gif

Federer's ... not there. Mentally, he hasn't turned up since Wimbledon. In the 3 matches I've seen him play since Wimbledon, he looked depressed, frustrated and burnt out. He didn't look like he wanted to be there, let alone to win. This is seriously starting to remind me of Borg, or even Henin at the beginning of this year. sad.gif Oh, and say hi to the new world No 1 and 2.

Yeah I'm looking forward to Gulbis and Djokovic too. I didn't take much notice of Gulbis last year, but he jumped out of nowhere at the FO this year, and has kinda grown on me since.

QUOTE
His victory over Blake was one of the biggest of his career -- he had only 10 match wins last season, 17 this season -- but no one could tell by his reaction.

"I will call my mother and that's it," Gulbis said. "Because if somebody wants to know, they can know. But why should I call everybody and tell them I won?" biggrin.gif

I'm confused...did Federer lose already the Cincinnati already? Does that mean Nadal is the #1 after this series?

Federer just lost 6-7 6-4 6-7 to Ivo Karlovic in the third round. So if Nadal wins the Cincinnati Masters, he will take over Federer's No 1 spot.

Yes, Fed lost today.
If Nadal wins Cincy, then he will be #1.

Thanks loveprint and Aziraphale for the quick reply.

I'm actually a Rafa fan. So I hope he does well and wins this series and finally be #1. What a year it will be for him if that happens.

I agree with everyone though, Federer haven't been playing 'well' since wimbledon.

He played okay today though. Saw the stats, 48 winners and 14 UF is quite decent. Plus he wasn't broken once. It's more of a confidence thing, which showed in the tiebreaker. Who knows, being no 2 might let him try some things with his game that he hasn't been able to, bcoz of the need to defend no 1. But is it just me or does "world no 2 Roger Federer" sound bizzarreeee.

Interesting article I thought.

Well congrats to Nadal....it's been a long time coming. And I agree with dOotsiez...maybe Federer being the "underdog" will give him the kick to start doing better.

thanks wendy! ❤
