I don't know that Janko Tipsarevic will ever be remember for anything other than taking Federer to 5 sets at the AO, hes a bit of a dark horse, but he doesn't seem to be able to hold himself up as someone who can be in the mix. As for Stepanek and Federer, they both have another round before they meet each other, so it's too early to say.
Roddick vs Gulbis next round. I don't know. On paper Roddick should win, Gulbis is still lacking any semblance of consistency, but it's still a winnable match for him. And he's got a round 4 to defend. Interesting ....
And does anyone realise that on the women's side there are 6 players in contention for the top spot at the USO? this is like men's tennis in the days before Federer established himself, simply.a.joke. Hoping for Serena to take it.

lol i;m rooting for safina although long shot (:
sharapova too but ah she's injured.

but wow... I think that it was so disappointing to see Santoro give up to Roddick.

And Ivanovic just went down to a qualifier, Julie Coin, who took out Dellacqua in the first round. *groan* I want Henin and Sharapova back playing it out, because this is such crappy tennis.

And the highlight of the night match was seeing Serena hit a forehand return that was 10 km (about 6 mi) FASTER than her opponent's serve!! LOL

I believe Ivanovic thought she could get some rest by pulling out of the Olympics. It's either her injury or the pressure's getting to her. The player who really needs to take a nice long break and pamper herself is Jankovic. She's been injured at every single grand slam this year, and she's due to play Zheng Jie next. Could be interesting. So could a potential Li Na v Dementieva. There's a few Chinese girls putting together good runs this year.
I'm really rooting for Serena to take this. and so far she seems solid, but Venus and Safina will be her biggest hurdles. The draw gods are not kind. Up coming matches - Tsonga v Moya? Nishikori v Ferrer? Gulbis v Roddick? Del Potro v Gile Simon? Monfils v Nalbandian? Interesting all around.

but that doesnt help much coz of the time difference and i can usually catch the first day match and parts of the first night match and part of the 2nd night match due to having to work 6 days
dunno if i should stay up with watch roger's match tonight
thinking that i should save my energy for the 2nd week
hmmmmmm
EDIT
well i got up to watch roger's match and boy was it frustrating!!
after this match i can pretty much certainly say that he's not going to win this year
it was frustrating seeing his inability to convert (YET AGAIN!!!) and the amount of unforced errors
the 2nd set was 1hr and 20 min for godsake!
more than half the games were deuce games!!
the 1st game took like 20 minutes- deuce 10 times
there was another game with 7 deuces
drove me up the wall! roger jsut couldnt convert *sigh*
put myslef through agony for no reason
the only thing he did well for serve decently
alves put up a good fight but that match should have ended much earlier than it did
off to sleep 3 hrs before i get up for work TT

A lot of double faults from Jelena. =X Even if she won the first set, the match outcome wasn't predictable at all, seeing that Zheng made some awesome shots, but she also started to make a lot of double faults, and then came the onslaught of unforced errors. Zheng made quite a few "ambitious" shots, let's say, which really cost her. The two held then broke each other then held, and it pretty much went back and forth, but obviously, in the end...
Overall, it wasn't a pretty game, and I'm surprised Jelena even came through. I thought for sure it was going to be a 3-setter!
The Federer and Alves game was... interesting, to say the least. Alves is one tough cookie, that's for sure! He came in, a nothing-to-lose-player, playing the "match of his life" against Federer. A lot of grunting throughout the whole game, and I bet that got to Federer because he started making a TON of unforced errors. Heck, even me just watching Alves make all those sounds was grating on my last nerve, lol. Watching this match was painful, to say the least. I'm surpised he even won in straight sets. The 2nd set, Fed had SO MANY break chances and he missed all of them save one that helped him up 6-5. He was up 40-0 twice during that set I think? He lost both games. He missed all those forehand/backhand shots he would normally have no trouble making. Case in point: I'm going to be a very surprised tennis fan if Federer wins it all with the way he's playing. =X
And Tommy Haas... What can I say? How disappointing was that match? Looked to be in the match to win like nobody's funny business, he started making bad decisions, and it cost him the rest of the match. After that win over Gasquet... Looks like Muller got revenge for Gasquet!
Well, these three were the ones I got to really watch today... XD My eyes hurt, so I think I'll skip Nole's match. I think the winner of that match is going to be pretty obvious. ^^; Hopefully. I'd actually like to see him get far into this tournament.
I can't wait for Andy-Ernests match up tonight though!

now that u mention it, yeah alves was making so much noise
it annoyed me too but i was streaming from CCTV and the chinese commentators were annoying me a bit too
so i think i kinda got distracted haha
and i think roger responded a bit with his own cries and "cmons" as well^^
then i just kinda turned off the volume for a bit and besides they kept skipping to different matches so i didnt notice it as much

Federer ... don't know what's going on with him. Some kind of existential crisis maybe.
Although if he loses to Stepanek again I might throw my Federbear out the window.
And Ernests Gulbis! What the hell? He was almost 2 sets up before letting Roddick back in the match. Frustrating indeed, because it was a do-able match for him, and would've made a nice upset.
I like Jelena and all her drama, her splits, the girl's got funk. Even if she's not playing the tennis to back it up.
Kuznetsova: yeah, *shakes head* she epitomises the state of the WTA at the moment, one huge nutjob, crumbling under pressure, performing best when no one pays her any attention.
Tsonga: I'm SO on the bandwagon. But he needs to find a way of keeping himself injury-free for more than 6 months of the year.
Haas: umm ... he should consider retirement. Okay that was low of me, but I just don't see him as being in the mix again, and that must be frustrating for a player of his caliber.
And Marin Cilic vs Djokovic next round. Interesting match up. Djoker should win, but let's see if Cilic is good enough to take a set.

even if he gets past stepanek, i somehow dont think he has the ability to go past djokovic (assuming both of them get that far)
for some brief moments i feel that i'm losing faith...
but hopefully he can pull himself together for next season
i really wanted to watch the tsonga/moya match but didnt get a chance
glad that tsonga got through...
some interesting match ups tomorrow......djokovic vs cilic should be interesting to watch

Kuzzy, what the heck?! She's probably my favorite Russian next to Sharapova. Wasn't she a finalist last year? I think she lost to Justine, who I REALLY miss!
dOotsiez: I so joined the Tsonga bandwagon too! (But that was because I wasn't a Nadal fan and he beat him at AO this year to get to the final XD Oh, and he took out a set on Nole, was impressed, and thought he was going to win that final...!)

It was a great match. I was really rooting for Gulbis. Gulbis played really good net shots.
amazing player. He's still got time to mature. I'll be looking out for him.
I thought it was kind of ironic how they share the same birthday.
All the fans were wishing them happy birthday. ^___^

murray and stan!! coming back from 2 sets down
esp murray's match seemed really close...
and a bunch of upsets - karlovic and nalbandian out!
damn the time difference....
well ferrer is two sets down now as well...
and the match between simon and del potro looks like it might go to a 5 setter
gosh i love grand slams

I thought it was a weird coincidence that Roddick and Gulbis shared the same birthday. Well one of them got a nice win on their bday. Gulbis is a bit of a cutie patootie if you ask me....
And as for the WTA, they need to start a petition to bring Henin back from her self-imposed exile. This merry-go-round is painful to watch. Alize Cornet just went down in straights to some player I've never heard of. Safina's down a set to some Swiss player I've never heard of. But hey, I've always liked the Swiss.
But I smell an upset coming. Ferrer's down 2 sets to Nishikori. And Del Potro and Simon look like they're going to 5. So many matches going to 5 sets today. Murray and Wawrinka both had to come back from 2 sets down.
EDIT//
Del Potro, Nishikori both won in 5 sets. Gee Ferrer's a fighter! but fighting can only take you so far. 4 five-setters today already! Can't believe Nalbandian went down to Monfils in straights.

KEI NISHIKORI IS MY HERO! I can't believe he was winning those first two sets then went down two! He was freaking winning 5-2 that last set and let Ferrer catch up 5-5. Glad to see that he went through to the 4th, although Ferrer losing is somewhat sad. Japan must be pretty happy right now! ^__^
How does everyone think Fed will do against Stepanek tomorrow? They're playing tomorrow, right?

HUGE win...and very mentally strong of him to keep his focus after losing those match points.
great win for the kei-factor! (lol at the cheesy name)
