I only just read some news reports regarding the match. Wow. Djoko won in straight (quite easily too it seems): 6-1 6-4
I haven't actually been watching the matches, but is Rafa back in form or does he still appear to be lacking??
Anyway... GO ROGER!!! I wanna see 6 consecutive USO titles!

Murray the true #1? That's got to be a joke. I'm not going to acknowledge anyone as a potential #1 till they at least have one Slam title. And even when that is achieved, they need to be able to consistently maintain a high level of tennis which enables them to win more Slams.
Reading the comments below that article was hilarious XD. Here's one I particularly liked:
2. Dinara Safina, who has not yet won a grand slam, "should not" be world number one.
Both these statements by Mr. Reed
Yeah... good one Reed *rolls eyes*

The guy seems to have a personal feud against Federer. I've been reading some of his stuff for the last year, and and it's been like this ever since about Madrid 08, when Murray started beating Federer in the Masters.
He's just trying to 1) get the Brits on Murray's side 2) get more hits to his posts by infuriating Federer fans. Most people in tennis fandom think he's a total w@&ker anyway.

Q. How strange or not does it feel to you that you’re going into a No. 1 versus No. 2 matchup tomorrow and the other guy isn’t Rafa?
ROGER FEDERER: Look, I don’t even pay that close attention to the rankings, because I always said that No. 1 is sort of what I’m focused on. If you’re not No. 1, well then you’re a former Grand Slam champion, you know, in my case and Rafa’s case and so forth.
So I never looked at Rafa as, for instance, No. 2 in the world, you know. I always saw him as the great champion he is, you know.
The same might happen with Murray, because Djokovic already has slam, for instance. But I’ve played No. 2s in the world in the past in semifinals as well. At the Masters Cup, for instance, I’ve played Rafa twice there.
It just tends to happen here. The draw was already done before he won in Montreal.

Dementieva won in Toronto, which is a great sign considering the last 3 WTA Toronto winners had gone on to win the USO.

Am kinda sad Maria lost... =T I didn't actually see many of her matches... only last night's semifinal against Kleybanova - which was some entertaining tennis, by the way! My mom was telling me that she won a match having like 16 double faults?? Is that for seriously possible? O__O; But hooray for Elena nonetheless, as I don't mind her much. I kind of hope Ana Ivanovic gets back to form. I wonder what's wrong on that front.
I love Dinara, but she seems to lack that oomph that her brother had(when he felt like exposing this talent of course...Not that I don't like him, because Marat was probably my second favorite. It's just that he wasn't consistent enough... Just these little but great bursts... sigh).
I hope Venus wins USO this year! Or will Miss Clijsters?? ^____^ That would make many headlines for sure!

and needless to say GO ROGER. Just awesome from him, beating Murray and Djokovic back to back. That'll shut the doubters up.
Or not. Doubters never shut up. *sighs again*
EDIT// WOT?!!!!

This commentator mentioned Novak's constant want for new input about his game and how differently the ladies of the WTA approach coaching. The ladies tend to stick with one coach for their entire career and be stubborn in that way, not experimenting different things, and that could be a factor in why they are struggling at the moment. =T
I don't know, but I think that's a valid point on the struggling WTA...
On another note...
My picks for USO 2009 is Roger and Dinara. That's not saying that I think they'll win for sure, but that I'd love it if they won. I want Dinara to win USO to shut people up about her not being worthy of number one. I do agree that being number one without having a slam is a bit ridic, so that's why I'd love for her to freaking finally win one. I feel bad for the poor girl always coming up short in GS matches because she comes up against Serena and loses to her... Either that or her nerves get the best of her... I mean, don't get me wrong, I love Serena too, and I don't understand how she isn't number one.... But I'd love to see Dinara winning this.
And Roger, what else is there to say about him? I do think this year, the NY crowd will be more on Andy Roddick's side than anyone else especially after the Wimbledon final. I think a second crowd favorite will be Rafa as they'll be cheering for his "come back" to the game.

cant wait til the draws come out
seems like the seeding is roger, murray, rafa, djoko, roddick
so does that mean roger is going to be in the same half as rafa????

souslesun - the commentator is right, Novak Djokovic is working with Todd Martin for the Open in addition to his long time coach.
And the WTA coaching problem has been huge point of contention - the girls get very emotionally attached to their coaches and won't change even if they've stopped getting anything out of the partnership.
I personally find it very unhealthy, and unfortunately the new on-court coaching rules introduced by the WTA still just increase the players' emotional dependence on their coaches. Dinara Safina is the best example of that.
As for Roger/Roddick in NYC - this is a good read:

Carlos is denying it. Carlos' wife says she's "not allowed to say much on it", but they both confirmed Justine has been practicing for a few months now for an exho at the end of the year. The Belgian newspapers are saying she's planning to comeback.

Anyways, the draws are outtttt! Roger and Rafa are still on opposite sides (yay) while Clijsters and Sharapova are dangerously floating around near the top seeds.

Thank effing god Roger & Rafa are not in the same half.
I need to familiarise myself with the draw. But who knows how long that'll take to load. If anyone could link me to the pdf file or what not, that'll be really great?
