coooool. 8] tennis thread.
Squash is a funny nameeee.
haha. i lovee tennis. yup yup.

does anyone get annoyed when people look down upon tennis as a sport?
especially when they say its REALLY easy to hit the ball with the racket?

i mean...those of you who play will know ...
its EASY to hit the ball with the racket, yes
but getting it IN the court and controlling the ball's direction is A TOTALLY different level..
i dunno...just annoys me when i hear people say tennis is easy and not even a sport. sleep.gif;;

I hate it when people say that Tennis is not a sport. I also hate it when people cheer loudly while watching people play. They can't use common sense and see the players are getting distracted/annoyed.

got into it when i watched the anime "prince of tennis" laugh.gif
LMAO, it's so addicting.

--any pointers? i always seem to be hitting it hard. but if i hit it lightly, the ball won't hit fast.
yeah.. i'm SO beginner. tongue.gif

heck. im no coach. but this is what my coach tells me...

SLOW DOWN. WORK ON YOUR SWING AND GRIP. FOLLOW THROUGH.
after you get the feel for where you want to hit the ball then work on stroke. power will come naturally once you got the swing down.
AND....
if you hit the ball correctly, then you shouldn't have to hit it hard to get it over the net.
your swing should give enough momentum so it goes over the net... not fast or hard ... but over. ^^;;
i played for a while but
i just started getting private lessons
and this is all i learned so far...
just trying to help a bit. ^^;;;;;

my backhand use to be FLAT and FAST... x_x+
but my coach changed my grip so i put a lot of spin into it...and also hit it fast.
by slowing down and relaxing and hitting the ball closer, i was able to do put a nice spin on the ball and
get it over the net with hardly any effort...
sleep.gif;; still need to work on the grip and get the feel for where the racket is parallel.
whenever i try to hit it hard, i tense up and go back to my past grip..and the ball goes right into the net.
thats why i got to practice hitting 3000+ backhands. he said i could do it real quick. x_x; i hope so.

but everyone's style is different. try different ways. =]

Some pointers i would give out is to find out your correct grip size and be familiar with the racquet you are going to be using. A bigger head size allows you to have a larger sweet spot and beginners can benefit from it. Also knowing if you like headlight or head heavy racquets can also benefit you since the feel of the racquet is very important. Your going to be using the racquet so you might as well be comfortable with it. The string tension is also a key in tennis and it all depends on the player. When your starting out always be on top of your toes and bend your knees. Follow through on your swings and be consistent. I've seen a lot of new players come out and try to hit their hardest and not being able to stay consistent. Consistency is a key in tennis since you want the ball to stay in. You will develop speed over time. If you want to learn your stroke and hit consistently i recommend hitting against a wall or taking a basket of balls out to the court and practice there. With that said, i was wondering if anyone has hit with the new dunlop aero gel series racquet's yet? I'm hitting with a mfil200 and was wondering how the newer one was like. I heard you get a lot of pop from it and it's more forgiving but i was wondering what others think about it. Well, have fun on the courts everyone.

iRad. Thanks for answering my question.

What? Tennis? Not a real man sport?
That's silly, maybe he doesn't know Andy Roddick!
Puahaha

haha i know i hate it when people say that about the sport.

i think all people who say that should end up getting hit by a 155 mph roddick serve. dry.gif

THEN WE'LL SEE THEM TALK. HAHAHA fury.gif

I'd rather watch tennis on tv smile.gif

Also, Monte-Carlo tournament just started! Yes! Clay court! Good luck Nadal!

Rafa is a freaking beast! If anyone gets a chance today, you must watch the match. I've forgotten just how good Rafa is on clay--it's almost as if he's not human.

I love it when Rafa's being a beast w00t.gif I'm so excited for this claycourt season.

^Wow, tennis 24/7 on tv...I don't know if I'd be able to stand it. smile.gif

You know what's annoying? When the person you're playing asks you if the ball you called out was really out. How are you supposed to respond to that? Like "No, I just really wanted to win that point so I decided to cheat"?

Eh, I guess I can understand it sometimes...especially if it was really close.

i just had a look at the atp rankings and it's absolutely crazy. federer's like over 2000 points higher than the next guy (Nadal) who's almost 2000 points higher than the next guy (Roddick). MY GOSH!!!!! there's such a huge gap!!! gah! i really want Fed to win all the major opens this year tho... ph34r.gif
