same with Speilberg, hes a big supporter of Bluray as well...Paramount really seem to be taking to short road on this one...sure the 150+mil will look good in their paperwork for their final quarter but it seems in the long run Blu Ray will (and is) gunna win and theyve basically pissed of 2 big heads in Hollywood Bay and Speilberg...well done Paramount, you've ruined the act!

BluRay still backed exclusively by Sony themselves, Fox, Disney and Lionsgate...plus the backing of Blockbuster and Target in retail...sure its a big move for the HDDVD camp, but it seems a little too late...

Really? Wouldnt it actually be Toshiba who bought the exclusive rights just cuz its Toshiba's format? I dont see how it has to do with X360 since Microsoft just sells the HD DVD player itself.

Well, Microsoft/Intel back Toshiba on HD-DVD 100% and both will make money off of HD-DVD sales. I guess it wasn't right to assume Microsoft but I'm sure Paramount and Dreamworks didn't expect to make 150 million off both next gen formats within the next 18 months. Someone put up a lot of money up front.

By the way, if anyone doubts that Microsoft’s real reason for involving itself in all this is to slow the adoption of next-generation discs by confusing consumers with a continuing format war so their own Xbox Live service can continue to grow and dominate the movie and TV downloading market, you’d better think twice. Because you can bet that while they’ll continue to play at supporting HD-DVD, lots of those brand, spanking new high-def transfers will end up on Xbox Live too and for a lot cheaper than the discs.

But money talks: Paramount and DreamWorks Animation together will receive about $150 million in financial incentives for their commitment to HD DVD, according to two Viacom executives with knowledge of the deal but who asked not to be identified.

Paramount’s agreement to use only HD DVD is limited to only 18 months.

Regardless, Michael Bay took back what he said...

Last night at dinner I was having dinner with three Blu-Ray owners, they were pissed about no Transformers Blu-Ray and I drank the kool aid hook line and sinker. So at 1:30 in the morning I posted - nothing good ever comes out of early am posts mind you - I over reacted. I heard where Paramount is coming from and the future of HD and players that will be close to the $200 mark which is the magic number. I like what I heard.

As a director, I'm all about people seeing films in the best quality possible, and I saw and heard firsthand people upset about a corporate decision.

So today I saw 300 on HD-DVD, it rocks!

So I think I might be back on to do Transformers 2!

Anyways for other interesting news. Some people put the PS3 through a stress test to see what it could handle. Surprising results.

The rumble-equipped successor to the lightweight SIXAXIS is almost ready for release. According to the latest issue of Japan's Dengeki PlayStation magazine (quoted over at NeoGAF), the Dual Shock 3 will be compatible with Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

....Then, earlier this month, an Australian executive hinted that Sony was readying a digital television service for the PlayStation 3. Speaking with a New Zealand-based newspaper, he outlined a TiVo-like service which would allow the game console to be used as both a TV tuner and personal video recorder (PVR).

Today at the Leipzig Games Convention in Germany, Sony officially announced its multimedia plan for both the PSP and PS3. Collectively called PlayTV, the service will indeed imbue Sony's console with PVR and TV tuner functions, allowing users to record and store live television shows on the PS3's hard drive. The high-definition TV tuner will be two-tiered, allowing users to watch one show while recording another in resolution up to 1080p. Programs can then be transferred onto the PSP for viewing on the go, or viewed remotely via the PS3-to-PSP streaming functionality. PlayTV will also have a seven-day electronic program guide that can be navigated via the Sixaxis game controller.....

Sony has not yet announced any North American or Asian plans.

yea another Ubisoft port...which is why im kind of worried about the quality of Assassin's Creed...Spinter Cell's Double Agent was about as buggy.
