mm... hi. ^^

right now, my whole family lives in korea.
we used to live in the US until last year-ish, when we moved to korea (due to my dad's job) and i came back here to California (by myself) like a week ago to study.
i'm going to go to the 8th grade starting next week or so.. i'm supposed to be a freshman in high school, but since it's so far into the school year.. i decided to go to 8th just so i wouldn't screw up my first year of high school or anything...

ANYWAY
i want to graduate college here and go back to live in korea after all my necessary education.
BUT... what would be the chances of me getting a decent career there?
what majors would help me? what should i go for??
what kind of job could i manage to get?

another option is to transfer to seoul nat'l university for college. but....... i'm not exactly sure i want to do that.....?

some might think i'm thinking wayyy too early, but i'm not, really. x.x i just want to be ready and have a goal in mind, you know?

if you could help me and give me some of your opinions or ANY advice, it'd be much appreciated! :)

I think it's possible, but I heard somewhere that getting a business major in the U.S. and going back to Korea is just about worthless because sooo many people do that. So avoid that.

Koreans...hmm. Well, considering Korea, I would say fields in technology and education would probably be good. Korean parents are pretty crazy about education, so if you're an English teacher or someting, or crazy good at science/technology (I'm thinking Samsung/LG here), I don't see how it would hurt.

I heard doctors are having a rough time in Korea these days though, so rethink a career in medicine.

11+ YEARS AND STILL GOING STRONG

think about what yu want to do [: then go for it.

yu like animals, be a vet.
yu like to dance, become a ballerina.

either way, as long as yu`re doin` what yu love to do & yu`re truly skilled @, yu`ll be happy w. yur situation biggrin.gif very corny i knoe, but it`s true.

I would seriously NOT recommend you going to Seoul University, considering it isn't even in the top 100 universities in the world. Whether you want to go to Korea or stay in US after college, you should go to an university in the states because it's worth more in both countries.
Being a Korean myself, I would not consider going back to Korea after college. There is simply too many people there competing for jobs of any kind. Opportunities are more vast here for any field of career, and after college, you wouldn't be dependent on your parents for a living. I would think it's best if you sought what you wanted to do in the states rather than going back to Korea. In Korea, I think you would be limited by what you HAVE to do for a living compared to in the states where you are more free to do what you WANT to do.
But the decision is up to you. If you want to go back to Korea, go for it. I wouldn't know which field of career would make you stand out, though. I hope it helped.

you are thinkin it the wrong way around. if you want to live in korea later on, go to korea for college. if you can get into 서울대, 연대, or 이대, go to korea obviously cuz in korea, it's all about where the hell you graduate from. that means you can get better jobs and better connections.

if your dad is a diplomat, i'm going to go crazy. crazy.gif

now, some ppl decide to come to U.S. for grad school for whatever their major is because education here is js better. Also, if you are an international student or something, i believe you pay double the regular tuition.

my ex-gf was exactly like you except she lived in japan before she came here in U.S. trust me, it takes a lot of work to get into 서울대, 연대, or 이대. She got into the first two and now attending 서울대...obviously. Unless you are super smart, you won't get in.

bottom line: if you want to live in korea and you think you have a shot at one of those three up there, go for it. if you dont have a shot at them, go to college in U.S. even though it might cost you more.

sorry i didn't focus much on the selectin majors part...

The chances of anyone getting into SNU as a transfer student are very slim. You've lived in Korea, you know how tough SNU is. SNU is probably harder to get into than HYPS because it depends only on your test score. ph34r.gif

And...college in Korea is a joke. HS may be hell trying to study for that one test that will determine the rest of your life, but college in Korea is easier than American colleges. It's the exact opposite here though. -__-

Anyways. A person I know got a job offer from Samsung (which he declined). He didnt do business or technology or anything. He does insurance.

Do whatever you want and there's always going to be a way.

But I've heard a lot of people set up English hakwons in Korea. Maybe if all else fails you could do that.

please do not PM me asking me to close threads, etc! i am no longer a mod! ^^ thanks!
