do you guys like it there? like the social life i mean.. i heard that everybody goes home during the weekends and stuff from a couple of college sites and even my friends tell me.

True, UCI's not known for its social life, but not everybody goes home for the weekends; I usually stay in the library. ^o^ But the library's only open from 1pm to 5pm today which is retarded. There is an end-of-quarter party with some of my friends later tonight, so some people do party at UCI.

I'm planning to go to UCI this fall
For those who go there... How is it?
Most people usually reject UCI because it has become known as an "Asian" school- true, there's a lot of asians, but there's also some diversity. I really like UCI. The people here are nice and easy to talk to. I made new friends on the first day. You just have to be outgoing and talk to random people and see who you have classes with and can get along w/. It's a lot easier to make friends if you dorm; otherwise most people who commute usually go home right after class because there's usually not much happening. Overall, it's a good school in a good environment (it's in Irvine!).

I'm sort of scared because I've been admitted for winter '07.. and i'm planning on going there too. but i'm afraid because everyone who goes in the fall will probably have a better chance of the whole "welcoming" experience no?
Winter 2007 or Winter 2006? I think my friend got admitted to winter 2006, I may be wrong though...

I heard that 52% of UCI students are Asian/Pacific Islander. Don't know about a lot of fobs though...

One of my concerns of going to one of the UC schools is the drastic difference in party life/social activity. I like it here in Boston, but I've always wanted to see how I'd like living outside the Northeast, and California has been one of the areas of interest.
So on a regular weekend at UCI, what is the environment like?

as for other groups, i think you can get really close friends (as in always hanging out together) if you join clubs, sororities n fraternities. or if you are really an outgoing person like what somebody mentioned before.
about the weekend life, i dont see it for myself cos i commute. but a lot of ppl said there's no life there cos ppl usually go back home. n part of the reason why UCI is a "quiet" school, is cos we dont have a football team... that's why...
anyways... this is kinda off-topic... but did any of you know that jolin tsai is going to have a concert at UCI Bren Events Center on April 22?
if not, check this out http://www.bren.uci.edu/Calendar/index.html

Ima be a freshman in fall too and I'm really excited to start college life! woohooo
I heard that there aren't that many things to do in UCI though...
We have South Coast Plaza and Irvine Spectrum like 10-15 minutes away.. but it's no use if we don't bring our cars ($180 per quarter for parking).
And theres Newport, Laguna, and Huntington Beach not too far away
As for the social life... I'm just looking forward to joining a lot of clubs
The campus seemed really quiet when I visited so I hope I find some things to do..
Theres also the ARC (the gym) hahaha
