Okay, so because I don't want to stay in my hometown, I might be considering UCR if I get rejected from UCI vicx.gif . I want to live the college life you know, so I know that if I go to school in my hometown, then I'll be at home. SO,

how is this school? no offense to anyone that goes here, but the only thing i can think of is "UC Reject" because of it's high acceptance rate =T.

i don't know much about the school, so excuse my ignorance, and so i want to know from you guys.

what are your thoughts on this school?
so we'll just let them hate
cause they can't stop us babe

I think the only reason why people might reject UCR is due to its location> Riverside. Other than that it's a UC, which is good. One of my friends decided to go to UCR because they offered her a lot of financial aid and she gets to dorm, so it depends on what you want. Check out the school first and see if you like the environment and the people there before you decide. Look at all your options. Best of luck! And I hope you get accepted to UCI!

honestly, you might as well go to a cc and trasnfer to a better uc or go to ucr then trasnfer to a better uc (because it's easier)...

but ya...ucr isn't prestigious at all and is nowhere close. i didn't apply...but they still accepted me...
if i hadn't gotten accepted into the college i'm at now (claremont)...then i woulda gone to a cc

UCR is still better than any CSU in my opinion. go to UCR for your first 2 yrs, and if you dont like it, just transfer.

that's an interesting name for it...

i'm not sure about riverside though. actually, it's the only UC i can go to(if i get in anyway) because i'm transferring after 2 years at some other school and have too many units. merced and irvine, which don't have unit limits, don't have the major i want either so i'm considering whether i should go here too.

of course, i've never really heard anything good about it...

yes it's quite difficult to transfer UC to UC... but it's possible.
It's just how much motivation you have to transfer.

I dont live in Cali ( I live in NY ) so I don't know as much about UCs, but from what I hear UCR is where all the really dumb kids go and that basically anyone can get in.. its like a safety for everyone?

Well of course the acceptance rate is low considering it has just recently opened and they need a population of students. I think it will get better as it becomes more established, but anyways, if you really wanna get away from home, then sure. But if you're considering UC-to-UC transfer then I would recommend looking into it. For instance, find out like things like if you do well at UCR will you be able to transfer to a different UC? And I heard UC Davis is about the same acceptance rate as UCI so did you apply there? Anyhow, I hope you make a good decision. =)

you guys are funny...i go to UCR and its credited as being one of the top 100 schools in the nation. so i dunno where all of you come off as saying UCR isnt a good school. To be top 100 in the nation out of however many thousands of colleges or universities are in the united states is quite good in my opinion. try looking up information before you start saying bad things about a school. and besides a degree from a uc is better than any degree from a cal state i garauntee you that. and besides UCR is the only UC besides berkeley if you can actually get into there that offers Business Administration as a major. so maybe thats why a lot of people go to UCR instead of other schools.

its harder than transferring from cc to uc, but yes you can transfer from uc to uc.
i think they give the priority to cc students first though.
btw i applied for transfer to ucd from ucsc, hopefully i will get a big package from ucd in april.
basically you try to finish your major prerequisites prior to transferring, and also look up what the requirements are for transferring to ucd.

ucr doesnt just stand for "uc reject", it also stands for "u can't read" hahaha

It's definitely a LOT harder to go between UCs, because as somebody already said, they give priority to the CCs... if I were in your position, I'd go to CC for a year, do REALLY well and apply for UCSD or something. It sucks, but it'll be worth it in the end.
good day.

I think you're talking about UCMerced that recently just opened because I thought UCR has been around.

thanks for the replies.

Anyway,

It's why I posted up this thread because I guess I was feeling a bit ignorant about the school and I didn't want to search up online because I feel like they would "sugarcoat" the school. I wanted to hear people's responses, you know? That, and I didn't know what to believe really from other college information sites.

For UCR, how are academics really? As well as their social life and the area? I've never seen UCR in person, so yeah.

It lost a point when I found out the beach is an hour away from the place =T.

edit: I found more reviews on colleges and i'm getting mixed feelings about UCR now =x -__-.

The UCs look better on your resume than CSUs. UCs get more funding because they were created to focus on research while CSU was created more towards teaching.

i would say that cal poly and sdsu are about equal in prestige to ucr. i'm sure it's as decent a school as most others, but ucr does have the reputation for accepting everyone and their mom. i did pretty crappy in high school but went to a community college and worked hard and now go to ucla, so if you want to avoid going to a bad school, you always have the option of community college. sure, you'll be stuck at home for 2 years, but at least you'll get a good experience/education afterwards.
