or does it work like gsm where u can just get a 3g sim card and put it in? might get a docomo 3g mobile from japan when i go again.

any special conditions for buying 3g mobiles from overseas? is it like cdma and won't work?

most 3g phones can still use gsm... like my sony ericsson w900 you can set the phone to gsm mode or 3g+gsm mode. however japanese cell phones only work in japan [except for vodaphone brands] because they use a special type of gsm network that only works in japan.

yep, japan uses their own network and more often than not you cant use their gsm phones elsewere

you can actually use the 3g network in new york
only place i've actually seen it work. other than that.. hopefully gsm networks will soon carry it. I know in canada rogers said they will soon have it.
