my first time in this thread, so hello everyone!

i first found out about jay in a chinese noodle house last year in L.A. i was eating out with my relatives and i saw his BLACK HUMOR MV playing on the widescreen, and i fell in love. i asked around on livejournal and tried to describe the MV as best that i could, and everyone told me it was most likely jay chou! the next day, i went to chinatown and bought a couple of his CDs and his INCOMPARABLE DVD concert.

i love him, really -- he's got a great voice, puts so much emotion into his work, and composes -- which i think is awesome.

the only thing i hate is how the press always tries to compare him and kpop singer RAIN together... in my eyes, they are not really rivals, but whatever.

I don't condone comparing, because it takes away from the individuality of an artist. I mean why can't an artist just be him or herself you know? But I would say, it makes a WHOLE lot more sense to compare Jay to David or Leehom, not that their music is similar, but that they are all composer/songwriters.

Whereas Rain...apart from having small eyes like Jay I see no similarity whatsoever, whether it is in personality or music. However, I guess since Rain and Jay are the two biggest stars of the moment in Asia it is inevitable to compare. Even so I think the comparing is baseless. It's like comparing an orange to a banana.

aside from the comparing....which i don't really have an opinion of i guess? cuz each person has their own style....so people can compare...but they're kinda "incomparable" OH...HAHA i made a jay chou joke xD xD but i don't mean like incomparable like "OH JAY CHOU IS SO MUCH BETTER" cuz they're all good in their own right and own way.

anyway...don't know if this has been discussed...i haven't checked this forum in a while...but you guys know how the incomparable concert was 2004 rite? and he has one every two years? so does that mean there's going to be a concert this summer?!?!?! i'm going to asia this summer, so the prospect of MAYBE getting to go(i mean...getting tickets is going to be INSANE) is a really cool idea....but yeea has anyone heard anything about a potential concert?

on another note...i wish jay would get a new person to pick out his clothes for him...i really liked his november chopin cover...until i noticed he's wearing animal print...

i really hate how the only news abt him recently are the rumors about him/hebe or him/patty breaking up. its irritating. i also dont relaly like how he's going into movies and such because i think he should make music his number 1priority. his last couple of albums were okay, but not exceptional like YHM and 8D. so yeah, oh and he needs to shave.

duuude. jay chou and rain are SO different. i think the only reason they are considered 'rivals' is because they are probably the two most popular male singers in taiwan. i don't think they have anything else in common. jay chou is more a composer-singer and rain is definitely a dancer-singer. i think rain is a straight up entertainer. i think that is one of the main differences between korean and taiwanese singers. i think to be a successful (as in VERY popular) singer amongst the youth/adolescent population, you usually need to be a dancer too (think: hyori, boa, tvxq, csjh, etc); but in taiwan, the focus is usually on the singing (vocals) -- dancing is not as emphasized. if there is dancing involved, it's usually something relatively simple (for example, i've never seen anyone do the 'popping' stuff that korean males are crazy about). also, rain's music is more korean hip-hop -- his wardrobe style reflects this too. and though jay's music sometimes has a hip-hop flavor, it's a different type. moreover, i would have to say the reason jay is so famous is because his style is extremely unique. he blends a lot of oriental flavor into his melodies.

i REALLY noticed this, especially because i'm new to the cpop scene so it was easy for me to see differences and stuff. i like that he blends, as you put it "oriental flavor" (rofl, like ramen? ) into his music and keeps it real with his asian audience. what i like about cpop is that a lot of it flows well with simple orchestral instruments -- piano, guitar, violins, etc. i think there is definitely a difference between cpop and kpop, since i really haven't heard a lot of r&b/rap from china (except for jay, rofl), and not too much dancing (EXAMPLE: jay chou's incomparable concert, you can tell he's not a dancer AT ALL). and yes, i think to reach a younger audience you do need the dancing factor, but if it's like jay's music then that shouldn't matter much. it's all about the music, man.

I don't think dejaWu is saying Bi is Taiwanese, he/she's just saying they're competitors when it comes to album sales, and yes, Jay doesn't have the greatest diction, but since he started out like that, it sort of became embed into his style. And people DO understand his songs.

I think Jay Chou is filming a movie that's set back in the ancient times. It's called Golden something. With Gong Li and Chow Yun Fat...I think. Let me go confirm my thoughts.

These two favourite dishes of Jay not only satisfy the local customers, even tourists from Singapore travel all the way (to Taiwan) to see for themselves.

Chen Qiu Xia is one of the concert organizers for this world tour. She took to the stage for the press conference together with Hebe and Selina, in the absence of Ella. The S.H.E World Tour kicks off in Shanghai (on 8th July), before moving to Hong Kong (5 days later), however, the performances in both concerts are different. The band will be singing Cantonese songs and at the moment are practicing songs by (the well known band) Beyond. Other than Pres Chou, other guest performers for the Hong Kong concert will also include Z-Chen Zhang Zhi Chen and TANK. They did not reveal much of their thoughts on performing on the Hong Kong famous arena for the first time.

When asked if it was Hebe’s idea to invite Jay as a guest performer, they answered that it was a collective decision by the three to invite Pres Chou. So is Jay coming because of Hebe? She (Hebe) strongly stated that it has nothing do to with that (Jay appearing because of her), and that that was only one-third of the reason. When she was asked about the “Chou-Hou Relationship”, Hebe answered, “(I thought) they didn’t break up?
