I can't believe I don't read more of this guy! He had a few book signings around here the other day and all his paperbacks were stacked neatly in piles at the entrance of a few major bookstores I usually go to...which was lucky for me as I rarely remember to otherwise look for his books on shelves. I've only every read a selection of his short stories (Smokes and Mirrors?) but I do love his wit and humour. Specialising in dark comedy...sometimes his ideas are so bizarre yet so believable at the same time. Addicting mix.
For anyone who loves a slighlty odd yet completely enjoyable book~ pick up American Gods.
American Gods is awesome, I love it. Actually, I love most of Gaiman's stuff, his novels are excellent. If you liked American Gods, there is a sort of sequel, Anansi Boys - it's lighter and features some familiar characters from American Gods. I will also recommend Neverwhere, originally a TV series for which Gaiman wrote a novel version. It's a bizzare ride through the London "underworld", fascinating stuff. Stardust is beautiful, one of my favourites (um, avoid the film adapation). Good Omens is a collaboration with Terry Pratchett, hilarious and a complete riot. Coraline is a creepy novella, very absorbing.
If you're into graphic novels, Gaiman is famous for The Sandman series - there are 11 volumes and a few spinoffs.
I'm gonna start Smoke and Mirrors myself.
