lol Yeah, I've been frequenting a lot of book stores lately and picking up a lot of the classics I've always meant to read~ although, I've bought so many I don't know where I'm going to find the time to read them all!
I was only able to finish The Metamorphosis and Notes from Underground while I was in Pittsburgh because I was busy, I loved both of them. The Metamorphosis was a very short but very profound read and I felt so sorry for Gregor! And after reading Notes from Underground, it's definitely one of my favorite books. <3 I want to read everything else Dostoevsky has written now~
Dostoevsky is a great writer. you should read The Brothers Karamazov... there's an interesting drama involved.

At the same time I'm reading Beowolf for my AP Lit summer assignment. I've got to get a mess of other books too though, hahaha.

very good book (while you are reading it)...though the ending was a bit too happy for me..kinda threw me off
the ending was really uplifting...it can be a good thing or a bad thing. what made it sound really sappy was the long speak on "i will live my life better..blah blah". the speak did not fit in so well with the whole story. the way the characters acted or talked has some what of a mysterious and cool feel to it. but the ending was so warm and cheery, and it came really sudden. it's like being in an airconditioned room the whole time the story went on and all of a sudden you find yourself under the sun, eating big chunks of cheese. don't feel so well.
i was expecting a clean, cold cut for the ending, not a big lecture on life. not saying that i want it to be a sad, depressing ending..but more choppy, happy ending.
overall, i love the characters in the story and the events were told very well. the ending didn't wrap up so well..it left me feeling 'whatever'.
im reading 'wrack' by (i forgot).
gonna find some kafka stuff to read.

Hope the powers-that-be will allow this thread to accumulate submissions for a while.
My 1st read is: "The Woman Warrior" by Maxine Hong Kingston.
~~It is a powerful series of stories about the vital generations of Females in her Family. One of the most interesting stories is 'No Name Aunt', about an aunt who commits suicide by throwing herself into the family well--thus destroying the ancestral home waters. All the stories are very different but each one is powerfully written. M.H.K. is one of my favorite writers. At NYU we were mandated to read and write papers on her Works. She is a kind of ICON in the writing wing at the University. Another very well written book by Ms. Hong Kingston is: "China Men"; about the vital generations of Males in her Family. I learned a lot of very important stuff from these 2-particular M.H.K. books, and was very well entertained at the same time.
My 2nd read is: "The Earth Chroncles," a series of about 10-volumes. -- The first of Zecharia Sitchin's books is "The 12th Planet". The author, www.sitchin.com, is a New Yorker who actually lives about 5-blocks from me, here in Manhattan. I am pleased to say I was part of a Sitchin reader/writer group for a little while. We were so seriously involved in reading all his books, we were rather like his 12-disciples. We used to meet once a month to discuss his Works, we went to all his conferences and once we even took him to a kind of 'last-supper' style dinner, at a local Near Eastern restaurant. He is a lot of fun, and a repository of archeological/anthropological information.
~~The Chronicles begin with an interesting collection of data taken from translated Cunieform Tablets found in the mounds of Mesopotamia & Sumer; the first civilization on Earth. The Paleo/archeological data takes us back to an era about c.445,000 BC and explains why/how our rapidly evolving ancestors improved their culture & civilization(s) in a Fantastic manner -- every 3600 years!--down through the Era(s) to c.200 BC. Of the 10-great books I have ever read in my entire life so far, "The 12th Planet" is the very BEST book of them all.
I also like the English translated version of "Jou Pu Tuan," (The Prayer Mat of Flesh), by Li Yu.
I will check your Thread to read more of your [Lists of Books].

Currently reading "Catcher in the Rye" for summer reading.
It's an awful book, I'm sitting here wondering why I have to read this.
aww...I actually liked Catcher in the Rye...even though the books they(school) usually give us to read aren't that great
I actually need to read A Clockwork Orange for summer reading (procrastinator lmao)
right now I'm reading Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment...with some Grimm fairy tales on the side.
I got Divine Comedy and Ovid's Metamorphoses a long time ago...but haven't gotten around to finishing them yet.

lol you liked it? I'm surprise, I got really agitated with all the "goddamn","chrissake", "no kidding" in the book. It wasn't boring or anything, I guess I didnt like the way it was written .
