yesturday i competed in aerodyne's gymkana event at the balcony at willowsprings. i had a lot of fun and was able to see all my friends who have moved down to la. we broke the standard 240sx and ae86 trend laugh.gif , we all brought roadsters. there was my miata, my friends miata, his g/fs supercharged miata, and my other friends new 06 s2000. the first half of the day was practice, i used some old sucky tires. i thought it would be easier to drift on and i didnt want to burn up my azenis. i was wrong, im way better drifting with azenis. after lunch they had practice for the timed event. if you dont know what gymkana is think auto x but with 360*, 540* and figure 8 turns. for the timed event i tried to drift as little as possible and i tried to keep my line as tight as i could around the cones. it is neccesary to slide some because its faster sliding when you are doing 360* turns around 3 tight cones. the slalom in the middle of the course was my favorite part, especially at the end of the day when my azenis started to get greasy. i would enter full throttle in 2nd gear and to change direction id just lift the throttle and turn. when i did that the rear would come out, i just went full throttle again added a little bit (10* maybe) of opposite lock real quick to get the tail back in line and i did it again to go the other direction in the slalom. they judged the rankings by lap time and performance. performance was how well you connected the corners, drift angle, drift control, etc. i dont like the idea of judging by performance because my friend with the s2k got the 6th fastest time but he didnt have good "performance" so he didnt make it to the tournement. i qualified in first place with the fastest time. qualifying actually turned out to be closer than the tounement. in qualifying my friend david (black miata, he has his d1 license) was .12 sec behind me. but he messed up during the tournement. in the tournement i think the closest person was about 1.3 sec behind me. in the finals i beat my old time by .23 sec. at the end of the day i had the fastest time and first place v^_^V

i've never been to a gymkhana event, but i've seen clips of them from japan and damn, it seems like a sport where you have to have an iron stomach along with driver skill.

but congrats on the win, the fastest time and the trophy.

prize was a t-shirt, magazine, and they said they were going to send something to me in the mail for miata.

also the g can already run mid 13s stock and the hks intakes adds an estimated 10 extra hp and the exhausts add like 8 so yeah it should shove off about 1.5 to 2 sec off my times
